Product Usage Instructions

  1. Unbox your MK8 and register online: Take your new MK8 out of the inner box with the help of another person and inspect it for damage. Scan the QR code on the back of your Rhodes Members Club card to access the MK8 manual, quick start setup videos, firmware updates, and warranty information.
  2. Stand Assembly: Make sure the stand fits properly into the recess within the base of the piano. Adjust the adjustable feet and rear legs as required.
  3. Audio Connections:
    • For Stereo: Connect the MK8 stereo outputs using two 1/4 inch jack leads or two XLR leads to the inputs of a high-quality stereo amplifier, audio interface, mixing desk, or into two full-range mono amps/active speakers.
    • For Mono: Connect the left output jack or left XLR output to your amp, speaker, or audio interface.
    • For Headphones: Use the built-in headphone output in the left cheek block on the front of the MK8. Use the rotary control to adjust the volume.
  4. Power: Connect the mains power cord to the included MK8 universal voltage power adaptor. Plug the 4-pin XLR power connector into the MK8 power input. Next, plug the mains cable into a power outlet. Flick the power switch to ON, turn up your monitoring equipment to a comfortable level and your MK8 is ready. Please switch your MK8 on before powering on your monitoring equipment.
  5. Preamp, Volume, and EQ: Set the main volume control to a comfortable level. To adjust the EQ, set the LOW and HIGH dials to taste. Turn up the MID GAIN dial to just over half, then sweep the FREQ dial slowly left and right to hear the unique mid filter in action. Set the ENVELOPE dial to full. Turn up MID GAIN to maximum. Set the FREQ dial to taste.
  6. Pedal Connection :
  7. Place the pedal in your preferred position under the piano.
  8. Standing behind the piano, insert the twist-lock connector (A) into the underside of the piano.
  9. Turn the twist-lock connector fully anticlockwise until it locks firmly in place.
  10. Take the knurled connector (B) and pull it upwards while screwing it anticlockwise all the way onto the threaded push rod that protrudes from the underside of the piano. Your pedal is now connected.

  3. Remove the four legs and two cross braces from their holders. Screw each leg into the four corners (A) of the frame.

  4. Attach the cross braces (B) to the inner bars using the thumbscrews (C), next, unscrew the lower part of the rear legs (D) and slot in the cross braces.
    Retighten the lower part of the rear legs. Flip the stand over. 3. Loosen the two thumbscrews (E) and extend the frame so the straight edge of the square tube lines up with the point of the arrow (F). 4. With the help of another person, set the piano down onto the stand. 5. If placing the piano on an uneven surface, level the front legs using the adjustable feet.

  5. AUD IO CONNECT IONS

    • FOR STEREO Connect the MK8 stereo outputs using two 1/4 inch jack leads (1) or two XLR leads (2) to the inputs of a high-quality stereo amplifier, audio interface, mixing desk, or into two full-range mono amps/ active speakers.
    • FOR MONO Connect the left output jack (3) or left XLR output (4) to your amp, speaker or audio interface.
    • FOR HEADPHONES Use the built-in headphone output in the left cheek block on the front of the MK8. Use the rotary control to adjust the volume.
  6. POWER
    Connect the mains power cord to the included MK8 universal voltage power adaptor. Plug the 4-pin XLR power connector into the MK8 power input (1). Next, plug the mains cable into a power outlet. Flick the power switch to ON (2), turn up your monitoring equipment to a comfortable level and your MK8 is ready.

  7. PREAMP, VOLUME AND EQ
    Set the main volume control to a comfortable level. To adjust the EQ, set the LOW and HIGH dials to taste.

    • MID SWEEPS Turn up the MID GAIN dial to just over half, then sweep the FREQ dial slowly left and right to hear the unique mid filter in action.
    • ENVELOPE/AUTO-WAH Set the ENVELOPE dial to full. Turn up MID GAIN to maximum. Set the FREQ dial to taste.
  8. PEDAL CONNECTION

    • Place the pedal in your preferred position under the piano.
    • Standing behind the piano, insert the twist-lock connector (A) into the underside of the piano.
    • Turn the twist-lock connector fully anticlockwise until it locks firmly in place.

GENERAL SAFETY

  • Ensure the pedal is removed before moving the piano.
  • Do not allow children to use without supervision.
  • Do not stack the piano (possible chance of falling).
  • Please ensure that the piano is carried by a minimum of two people.

WARNING

  • Do not disassemble or modify.
  • To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock do not expose this apparatus to rain or moisture.
  • If you have wet hands, do not handle, connect, or disconnect the power cord.
  • Remove the power cord from the AC outlet if there is a possibility of a lightning strike.
  • Do not let foreign objects, such as flammable or conductive materials enter the piano.
  • Do not allow liquid ingress of any kind.
  • Do not store containers of liquid on the piano.
  • Do not install the piano near heat sources.

CAUTION: When moving the piano, ensure all cables are removed (power, sustain pedal, headphones, USB, audio cables).
