productSAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

This manual contains important safety and operating instructions. Please read carefully and store them for future reference when required.

  • To avoid personal injury, use only batteries manufactured by reputable suppliers and avoid using sub-standard batteries that have the potential to explode and cause personal injury.
  • Use only the power supply and cable supplied specifically with this product. Use of third party accessories may lead to impaired performance or failure of the product.
  • Always disconnect the power cable from the charger by pulling the plug and not the cable in order to reduce the potential for damaging the cable.
  • Only use extension cords when absolutely necessary. If used, the cord size is 18AWG for up to 100 feet (30.48m) and 16 AWG for lengths up to 150 feet (45.72m).
  • To reduce the potential of fire, damage or personal injury, do not operate the charger when there are visible signs of damage.
  • The product is designed to be repaired by qualified personal only. Should the unit develop a fault, please return to an approved service centre.
  • Always unplug the charger before cleaning or attempting maintenance to avoid the risk of electric shock.
  • Use only fuses as per the original supplied.
  • To avoid electric shock, please do not operate the product outdoors.
  • Do not use the charger in potentially explosive areas.
  • Only connect the charger to a correctly fused and wired power source.
  • Do not operate the charger in areas where the ambient temperature is above 40ºC.
  • The power cord should not be in a place where it can induce personal injury by stepping on or tripping over it.

PRODUCT BENEFITS

  • The Charger allows users to charge 6 radio and 6 spare battery simultaneously.
  • It offers users an efficient method to rapid charge Ni-Cd, Ni-Mh, lithium and lithium polymer batteries and can accept multiple chemistry charging of different chemistry batteries at the same time.
  • The product is manufactured from highly durable fire resistant polycarbonate.
  • The Charger automatically detects when batteries are defective before entering a full charge cycle and notifies the user with a red flashing light.
  • The product monitors the battery and automatically protects against overcharging by entering a trickle charge mode.
  • Batteries can be left in the charger for extended periods without any damage caused.

POWER SOURCE AND ADAPTER

The Charger should only be used with the approved power supply unit and cable.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

  1. The charger utilizes our unique 6+6 charger cups that are capable of charging either batteries with or without the radio attached.
  2. Select the charger cups required.
  3. Insert the cups into the main charger and screw them in without undue force.
  4. Plug in the appropriate power supply cable to the charger and then attach the plug to the socket and switch on. If power has been delivered to the charge and it is in active mode then the lights will flash ‘on’ and then ‘off’.
  5. Insert the batteries or radios (powered off) into the charger and the charge cycle will commence, align the grooves in each battery with the charger cup grooves and insert without undue force.
  6. Once the battery and charger are inserted the charger indicator will activate and determine the status of the charger.

INPUT RATINGS & POWER ADAPTOR SPECIFICATION

ITEM| SPECIFICATION
AC Input Ratings| 110-240VAC +/-10 %

50/60Hz

AC Input Current| 1.5A max at 110V
AC: Plug type| AC cord
DC: Output ratings| 12-24V

11-15A

CHARGER COMMON TECHNOLOGY
ITEM| SPECIFICATION| NOTES
Cells technology that can be charged| NI-CD, NI-MH, Li-Ion

and Li-Polymer

| 3S1P to 8S1P

1S1P to 3S1P

Charge 8S1P Ni-Cd must have input voltage 15V to the charger

Charging channels| 6 Channel| Each channel works independently
Charging current| •   900 mA +/- 100 mA (normal fast charge stage)

•   400 mA +/- 100 mA (optional pre-charge stage to bring up the voltage of drained battery to normal level before fast charge)

•   100-200 mA (trickling charge stage for Ni-Cd battery)

•   1100 mA +/- 100mA (max) TETRA RADIO with battery in constant voltage modes for charging mobile units

Temperature detection| YES – When battery has NTC
Charging algorithm| •  Li-Ion batteries: Constant current (fast charge), then constant voltage

•  Ni-Cd/Ni-MH batteries: Constant current (fast charge and trickling charge)

CHARGING THE BATTERY

  • Care must be taken to insert the battery so that it makes the desired contact
with the gold contact pins. Failure to insert the battery correctly will result in no illumination of the charger LED and no charging will take place.

  • Once a battery is correctly inserted the charger will determine the chemistry of the battery and commence the charge cycle.

  • A steady red LED indicates the battery has entered its rapid charge state and will continue until the charger calculates it is nearing full capcity.

  • Completion of the rapid charge stage (90% full battery) is indicated by a flashing green LED. This trickle charge status lasts approximately 1 hour.

  • Completion of this trickle charge status is indicated by a steady green LED and the battery is fully charged. A flashing red LED indicates a faulty battery and it will not enter normal charge mode.

REMOVING A RADIO OR BATTERY FROM THE CHARGER

Remove the radio or spare battery with two hands with one hand pressing down on the charger for support and the second to remove the radio and battery.

TROUBLE SHOOTING

  • The charger incorporates the features of constant current rapid charge.
  • A radio switched on and in operation will reduce the performance of the radio and extend the actual time taken to charge the battery and is not recommended.
  • When ending the rapid charge cycle (steady red) the battery voltage will exceed the normal operating voltage of the radio. The voltage will return to normal.
  • If the battery is inserted and no LED is illuminated please first ensure the charger is powered up, then remove the radio or battery and ensure it is inserted in the correct manner.
  • If the charger is flashing red, the correct contact is not being made or the battery is faulty. Remove the battery and re-insert it. If the flashing light persists then remove it and take a dry cloth and wipe the contact points before re-inserting. Should the flashing light persist the battery is faulty and should be replaced.

SERVICE

The charger is designed to be field repairable. A list of spares is available from authorized distributors. Should you require the charger to be repaired, please contact our authorized distributors and arrange for a return note to be completed.
