P50/P50SA – ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS
NVA P50SA MKII Passive Preamplifier
Direct Input – this input can be used to bypass the input selector switch. It
does not bypass the volume control. When connecting a source to the direct
input, no other sources must be connected to any of the other inputs.
P50 only (not SA) – to avoid channel imbalance, it is necessary to turn the
volume past approximately 15%, at the start of listening. The volume can then
reduced again, if required, to the desired listening level, and any imbalance
will have been removed. You may need to do this a couple of times. This is due
to the inherit design of metal film volume pots. This minor inconvenience is
rewarded with better sound quality.
Output to power amp(s) – connect the P50/P5SA to your power amp(s) using the
pre-amp output sockets. Start with the lowest of the 3 sets of sockets for
best sound quality.
The P50/P50SA is a fully passive design. It is designed for optimum
performance with NVA power amplifiers. It will also work well with any other
power amplifiers that are suitable for use with passive pre-amplifiers. If in
doubt, you should contact the manufacturer of the power amplifier that you
intend to use.
