HANDLING AND STORAGE
Correct handling and storage of Masons Intertenancy Wall System components are critical for best performance, ease of use and warranty adherence.
Handling
Lift Masons Enviro™ AAC panels by the long edge, carrying a panel between two people. Unload panels as close as possible to the installation area. Use trolleys or other
mechanical devices where this is not possible. Take care handling the panels to avoid damage to edges and surfaces.
Other products must be handled in accordance with the component product manufacturer or supplier requirements.
Storage
Masons Enviro™ AAC panel packs must only be stacked one pack high and must be properly supported on level ground.
Mineral wool insulation and Masons Enviro™ AAC adhesive mortar must be stored dry and covered.
Other products must be stored in accordance with the component product manufacturer or supplier requirements.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT REQUIRED
Install the Masons Intertenancy Wall System using standard carpentry tools and equipment. a diamond-impregnated cutting blade and a sabre/reciprocating saw with
demolition blade.
Use tools in accordance with good trade practice and supplier’s instructions.
Use protective equipment when cutting panels, as Masons Enviro™ AAC panels contain crystalline silica or silica dust. Equipment must include P1 or P2 dust masks, protective glasses or goggles, earplugs or earmuffs, gloves, long sleeves, pants and protective footwear.

Installation

PREPARATION

Step 1:| Building consent documentation
Access and view the building consent documentation.
Ensure NZS 3604:2011 and NASH Standard Part 2: May 2019 Light Steel Framed Buildings are available for reference.
---|---
Step 2:| Primary structure (excluding Masons Intertenancy Wall System)
Ensure the framing of the primary structure is straight and true and within framing tolerances as described in section 2 and Table 2.1 of NZS 3604:2011 or section 2.5 and Appendix A of NASH
Standard Part 2: May 2019 Light Steel Framed Buildings.
Step 3:| Prepare Masons Enviro™ AAC panels
Masons Enviro™ AAC panels can be cut to the required length using power or hand tools with a diamond-impregnated cutting blade.

INSTALLATION

Step 1:| Details
Access and view the relevant Masons Intertenancy Wall System
details in the building consent documentation or from Masons
Plastabrick [link to details button].
---|---
Step 2:| Install first wall frame
The Masons Intertenancy Wall System has one wall frame on each side of the Masons Enviro™ AAC panel.
Install one of the wall frames. Ensure the framing is straight and true and within framing tolerances as described in section 2 and Table 2.1 of NZS 3604:2011 or section 2.5 and Appendix A of NASH
Standard Part 2: May 2019 Light Steel Framed Buildings.
Install temporary bracing to the wall to keep the wall straight and plumb during installation of the Masons Enviro™ AAC panels.
Check the building consent plans for any applicable building services. Services may be run in the gap between the Masons Enviro™ AAC panel and the framing, but the services must not
touch the panel or the brackets to ensure sound transfer is prevented.
Penetrations are not permitted unless these are specifically fire engineered.
Step 3:| Install Masons Enviro™ AAC panels
Install base panel
Ensure installation allows for the 20 mm air gap to be maintained.
Check framing to ensure that any deviations from the vertical do not reduce the size of the air gap.
Fix aluminium angle brackets, starting at one end of the wall.
Fix brackets every 3 m vertical height and at 400 mm horizontal centres for maximum wall height of 6.6 m and every 250 mm horizontal centres for maximum wall height of 10 m. On end studs,
install two brackets per panel.
Fix using:
› 12 g x 20 mm Hex head self drilling, Class 3 screws to steel framing or
› 12 g x 35 mm Hex head Type 17 self drilling Class 3 screws to timber framing.
Temporary brackets can also be installed for support during installation, one stud back from the end of the panel at the panel centre height.
Install C channel to the end of the wall using angle brackets.
Install C channel to the slab using a bed of Masons Enviro™ AAC adhesive mortar on the slab or fix C channel tracks using 50 mm concrete nails at a maximum of 1200 mm centres.
Ensure the C channel is level pack with ‘H packers’ where required.
Insert panel into C channels ensuring panel is level. Fix to angle brackets using 12 g x 45 mm Hex head SDS Type 17, Class 3 screws.
Apply a bead of fire retardant sealant along the outer junction of the base channel and the floor.
Install upper panels
Apply 2 mm–3 mm thick Masons Enviro™ AAC adhesive mortar to the edge of the base panel. Install the next panel on top of the base panel slotting into the C channel. Temporarily fix the panel
to the frame using an angle bracket. Ensure panels are joined as close as possible and sealed with Masons Enviro™ AAC adhesive mortar.
Continue to install panels in a stack bond configuration.
Install H-jointer
Insert one side of H-jointer to the end of the installed stacked panels.
Fix the H-jointer to the frame by installing aluminium angle brackets at the top plate and bottom plate of the wall.
Install remaining stacks of panels
Install remaining stack of panels, fitting panels into the C channel and the H-jointer, ensuring panels are joined as close as possible and sealed with Masons Enviro™ AAC adhesive mortar.
Install H-jointer between stacks and a C channel at the end of the wall.
Step 4:| Install second wall frame
Install the second wall frame. Ensure the framing is straight and true and within framing tolerances as described in section 2 and Table 2.1 of NZS 3604:2011 or section 2.5 and Appendix A of NASH
Standard Part 2: May 2019 Light Steel Framed Buildings.
Ensure the air gap of 20 mm has been maintained. Adjust the framing if necessary.
Check the building consent plans for any applicable building services. Services may be run in the gap between the Masons Enviro™ AAC panel and the framing, but the services must not
touch the panel or the brackets to ensure sound transfer is prevented.
Step 5:| Install insulation
Install insulation in accordance with the selected insulation supplier’s requirements. Cut to fit size and install strapping where required to ensure the insulation does not bulge out into the air void.
Step 6:| Install plasterboard
Install plasterboard in accordance with the selected plasterboard supplier’s requirements.
Check the building consent for any wall bracing requirements.
Plasterboard fixing may vary depending on wall bracing or a nonbracing design.
Step 7:| Install insulation to top of wall
Install non-combustible, moisture-resistant, mineral wool insulation to the top of the wall to fill the voids within the roof capping and junction of the intertenancy wall.

DISPOSAL OF WASTE

Enviro™ AAC panel should be disposed of at a concrete recycling facility.

COMPLETION
