the base of the antenna before adjusting it. When folding up the antenna,
first push the base in, then push the antenna elements in starting with the
thicker ones.
Ext. Antenna/Ground Terminals
FM:
To improve reception or receive very distant stations, connect an FM antenna
(FM dipole antenna, TV antenna) to the antenna terminals, as shown in Fig. 5.
MW (AM):
When listening in poor reception areas such as inside a large building or in a
fringe area, connect a length of wire, to serve as an antenna, to this antenna
terminal, as shown in Fig. 6.
SW:
To improve reception, connecta length of wire, to serve as an antenna, to this
antenna terminals, as shown in Fig. 6.
Ground for MW (AM) or SW:
If your radio picks up excessive noise during MW (AM) or SW reception, you can
reduce the noise by grounding the set.
Note:
An external antenna for MW (AM) or SW constructed from a long section of wire
will provide better results; however, a short length of wire is also suitable
.
How to Connect Antenna Lead to Terminal:
Remove about one inch of insulation from the lead to expose the conductor.
Wind the conductor around the terminal as shown in Fig. 7.
Earphone/Ext. Speaker Jack
Connect the supplied earphone or any 8 ohm speaker to this jack. The built-in

HELPFUL HINTS
- Since a strong magnet is used for the speaker, keep magnetic commuter passes, tickets, credit cards, recorded tapes, watches, etc. away from the radio. The speaker magnet in the radio may damage them.
- Do not subject the set to a temperature over 60°C (140°F), because characteristics of the internal parts may be adversely affected by heat.
- Especially, never leave the set ina car exposed to direct sunlight for a long time with all the doors and windows closed. The cabinet may become deformed, and deterioration of the performance may result.
- Do not use benzine, thinner, or the like, or any abrasive powder to clean the cabinet. Wipe it with a soft cloth moistended with a mild soap and water solution. elf the set is not used for long, or is used only from an AC adaptor, remove all the batteries to prevent potential damage due to possible battery leakage.
- When listening in a train, car, or building, use the radio near a window to obtain best possible reception. Reception may be difficult in a tunnel or subway. Also note that operating the radio in a metal structure may adversely affect reception.
