RANKIN microtomes Semi Auto Microtome

Product Information

Microtomes
The Rankin Basics microtomes come in two models – manual (MCT25) and semi- automatic (MCT45) – and are designed to simplify the process of creating thin sections of tissues for microscopic examination. Both models come with a 2-in-1 high or low-profile blade holder, an ergonomic handwheel, German- imported Kipp levers for secure locking of the blade holder and specimen orientation head, and a waste tray to catch paraffin shavings during microtomy.

The semi-automatic model offers additional features such as a motorized course feed with the natural feel of a flywheel, a click-into-place lateral positioning system to help lengthen the lifespan of blades, and three sectioning modes for the user to choose from – standard mode, smart mode, and full-layer interval mode. It also has a large wrap-around waste tray for less trips to the waste bin.

Both models have a flat top for storage of supplies, an ergonomic housing shell for easy cleaning, and are suitable for use in histopathology laboratories.

Product Usage Instructions

The Rankin Basics microtomes are designed to create thin sections of tissues for microscopic examination. Follow these steps to use the microtomes:

  1. Select the appropriate blade holder for your needs – high or low-profile – and ensure it is securely locked with the German-imported Kipp levers.
  2. Place the tissue specimen in the specimen orientation head and secure it with the German-imported Kipp levers.
  3. Using the ergonomic handwheel, adjust the horizontal movement of the blade holder to your desired position.
  4. Adjust the lateral movement of the blade holder using the click-into-place lateral positioning system to ensure the user cut on all three portions of your blades, lengthening the lifespan of your blades, with repeatability every time.
  5. For the manual microtome, use the handwheel to manually slice through the tissue specimen. For the semi-automatic microtome, select the appropriate sectioning mode and press the C/T button if switching between trimming and fine sectioning.
  6. Collect the thin sections of tissue created in the waste tray.
  7. Repeat steps 2-6 for additional tissue specimens.

After use, clean the microtome using a soft cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasive materials or harsh chemicals.
