Product Information – Spool Gun Quick Start Guide
The Spool Pro Hornet SG 250 is a spool gun that is compatible with Forney multi-process (MP) machines. It is designed for welding aluminum and other non-ferrous metals. The spool gun comes with gas nozzles, contact tips, and gas diffusers needed for welding. The user manual provides essential information regarding installation, machine setup, troubleshooting, and basic MIG settings for welding aluminum.
Product Usage Instructions
- Read user manual: Familiarize yourself with the spool gun’s components, installation, and troubleshooting tips before using the product.
- Install the welding wire: Choose the appropriate wire diameter based on the material thickness and feed it through the spool gun. For top feed wire installation, follow steps 2A-2C below:
- Remove the spool from the spool gun by turning the tension knob counterclockwise
- Slide the wire over the wire feed roller and into the inlet guide tube
- Replace the spool and turn the tension knob clockwise until there is slight resistance on the wire
- Machine setup: If using a Forney multi-process (MP) machine, ensure process selector is set to MIG. For MIG welding aluminum, use DCEP+ process.
- Troubleshooting tips:
- TIP #1: Use contact tips that are one size larger than the selected welding wire to prevent burn-back issues.
- TIP #2: Always use 100% pure Argon shielding gas when welding aluminum.
- TIP #3: Use a slight push angle when using a spool gun.
Note: The 0.035 groove can also be used with 0.030 wire. For basic MIG settings for 4XXX series aluminum, refer to the table provided in the user manual.
