Defender Cameras Sentinel Product Information

The Defender Cameras Sentinel is a security camera system available in 4 and 8 channel models, with the model numbers NS8MP1T4B4 and NS8MP1T8B8 respectively. The system includes an NVR (network video recorder) that connects to up to 8 cameras to record and store footage. The NVR is equipped with a 2TB hard drive for storage.

The system is designed for indoor and outdoor use and comes with weather- resistant cameras that can capture 1080p HD video. The cameras have a wide- angle lens and offer night vision up to 100 feet.

The Sentinel system can be accessed remotely through the Defender Cameras app, which is available for iOS and Android devices. The app allows users to view live or recorded footage, receive push notifications, and manage settings from anywhere.

Defender Cameras Sentinel Product Usage Instructions

  1. Activate your warranty by scanning the QR code inside the camera or visiting DefenderCameras.com/Warranty.
  2. Connect the NVR to a monitor or TV using the included HDMI cable.
  3. Verify all accessories and complete the NVR setup before installing the cameras. For the best viewing experience, use a 4K monitor or TV.
  4. Install the cameras in desired locations. The cameras come with mounting hardware and can be placed on walls, ceilings, or other surfaces.
  5. Connect the cameras to power outlets using the included power adapters.
  6. Connect the cameras to the NVR using the included Ethernet cables. The cameras should automatically connect to the NVR once powered on.
  7. Access the system remotely using the Defender Cameras app. Follow the app instructions to view live or recorded footage, receive push notifications, and manage settings.

It is important to note that the Sentinel system complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules and generates radio frequency energy. If the system causes harmful interference to radio or television reception, users are encouraged to try correcting the interference by following the instructions provided in the user manual.

4 & 8 CHANNEL NVR SETUP

PLEASE READ FIRST!
You must connect the NVR to a monitor or TV to complete the setup. We recommend verifying all accessories and completing the NVR setup before installing the cameras. For the best viewing experience, we recommend using a 4K monitor or TV to view your footage.

  1. Connect the cameras, monitor, USB mouse, router, and power supply to the NVR.
    A Camera and Ethernet Cable: Connect the 60ft Ethernet Cable to the Camera and NVR. Repeat for each camera. (NOTE: Ensure the waterproof gasket is tightened over the connection)
    B Modem/Router: Connect the modem/router (not included) to the NVR with the 6.5ft Ethernet Cable. (NOTE: Wired Ethernet connection required, NVR cannot connect to the modem/router via Wi-Fi)
    C Monitor: Connect the TV or Monitor to the NVR with the HDMI cable.
    D USB Mouse: Connect the USB mouse to the NVR.
    E NVR Power: Connect the NVR power cable to a power outlet.
    F USB Port

  2. Follow the Activation and Setup Wizard on the monitor/TV to set up the NVR.
    A Power LED: indicates the NVR is ON.
    B Record LED: data is being read or written to HDD.
    C Network LED: NVR is connected to a network.

NVR SETUP WIZARD

SETUP WIZARD – GENERAL SETUP
Please Note: The Sync function will only work when your NVR is connected to the Internet.

  • Select your language and Date Format. The NVR will automatically synchronize your Time Zone, Date and Time when you select Next. To adjust these settings manually, un select Sync Time.
  • Un select Boot Wizard if you do not wish to launch the Setup Wizard every time your NVR is rebooted.
  • Click “Next”.

SETUP WIZARD – FAST NETWORK

  • Confirm your Network Status says “Healthy Network”.
  • Click “Next”.

Please Note: If your Network Status does not show “Healthy Network”, verify that your NVR is connected to the Internet and all cables are plugged in. Once this is confirmed, click “Auto Config” to refresh your Network Status.

SETUP WIZARD – STORAGE MANAGE
Formatting your Hard Drive helps to enhance the performance of your NVR. We recommend doing this before the startup Wizard is completed.
Please Note: When formatting your NVR after the Startup Wizard, all recorded footage will be deleted.

  • To format your Hard Drive, check the Format box > Click Format.
  • Select Yes to “All the records will be deleted. Are You Sure To Continue?”
  • Wait for the hard drive to finalize formatting. This may take a few moments. Do not navigate away from the screen.
  • Click “OK”.
  • Confirm your Status is “Formatted”. Click “Next”.

SETTING UP REMOTE VIEWING

SETUP WIZARD – MOBILE ACCESS
In this section, you will connect the NVR and cameras to the Defender Empower App to gain mobile App access for remote viewing. In order to use the Defender Empower App, the NVR must be connected to the Internet via an Ethernet cable.

Open your camera and scan the DEFENDER EMPOWER APP QR Code on your NVR Screen to download the App for remote access viewing. If you are unable to scan the QR code, search Defender Empower in the App Store or the Google Play Store.

Please Note: STAY ON THIS SCREEN. The Device ID QR Code can only be scanned within the Defender Empower App. Continue to the next section “Account Setup” and follow the steps to create an account. You will be instructed to scan the Device ID QR code in upcoming steps.

CREATE A PASSWORD

Please Note: The NVR does not require password protection; however, we recommend adding a password for security purposes. To add a password, complete these steps.

SYSTEM SETUP

  • To add a password right click to view the main menu > Select System Setup.
  • Leave Password blank and click “Ok”. You will create your password on the next screen.

Select System Admin > Select User > Select Set Password.

Create your NVR password (the system does not have an old password, keep this blank.) – PLEASE REMEMBER YOUR PASSWORD! Defender cannot remote access your NVR to reset your password!

  • Keep Old password blank.
  • Create a New password.
  • Confirm password in Repeated.
  • Select “Ok”.

PASSWORD RECOVERY – SECURITY QUESTIONS

Security questions are used to reset a forgotten password.
Select 2 security questions and enter your answers.

REMEMBER YOUR ANSWERS! We recommend writing your questions and answers down and keeping them in a safe place for future reference.

ADD ADDITIONAL USERS

• To add additional users, Right click to view the main menu > Select System Setup > Select System Admin > Select User > Select Add User.

  • Create a Username and Password.
  • Confirm password in Repeated.
  • Select which controls the user will have.
  • Click “Ok”.

RECORDING SCHEDULE SETUP

This setting will allow you to customize your recording preference for each channel (camera). You can record continuously, when motion is detected or a combination of the two.

Please Note: By default, the NVR will record continuously (Red). Any changes you make will overwrite this setting. To record continuously, skip this step.

  • To customize your recording preference: right click to view the main menu > Select System Setup > Select Record Setup.
  • Select the channel you wish to edit the recording schedule for.
  • Select your preferred recording type (Continuous, Motion or Alarm).
  • Hold and drag your mouse over the time and day you wish to record using your desired recording type. To edit or delete a setting, drag over the time again. You can add multiple recording types for each day and time.
  • Repeat for each channel. To duplicate the recording schedule for other channels, select “Copy To” and apply to the desired channel. Select “Ok”.
  • Click “Apply” and “OK”.

Please Note: To search motion recorded footage while recording continuously, add a Motion record schedule to your Record Plan.

SETTING UP NOTIFICATIONS

MOTION DETECTION AND VIDEO LOSS
Please Note: If you do not wish to receive notifications on your App or Monitor/TV, skip this step.

  • Right click to view the main menu > Select System Setup > Select Channel Setup > Select Video Detection.
  • Select the channel you wish to setup notifications for and select Enable.
  • Select your Detection preference.
  • Select your Sensitivity preference. We recommend Medium to avoid a high amount of notifications.
  • Select your Alarm Duration preference and how you would like to be notified. For example, to be notified on your App, select APP Alarm and/or Email for email notifications. For immediate notification, we recommend selecting APP Alarm. Select as many as desired.
  • Select Human body to receive human detection notifications only and Body region to receive a rectangular bracket on the detected area. Please Note: Human body must be selected to use the Body region feature.
  • Repeat the previous steps for each Detection preference.
  • To duplicate the notification settings for other channels, select “Copy To” and apply to the desired channel for each detection setting. Select “Ok”.
  • Select “Apply” and “Ok”.

DETECTION REGION

Please Note: This setting is only available when motion detection is selected in Motion Detection and Video Loss settings.
Detection region allows the system to notify you when motion is detected in the selected regions. If you wish to be notified of all motion in the cameras field of view, skip this step.

  • To access this setting, right click to view the main menu > Select System Setup > Select Channel Setup > Select Video Detection.
  • Select the channel you want to adjust the detection region for.
  • Select “Area Edit”.

  • To customize your preferred detection region, right click > Select “Clear All”.
  • Select the area you wish to receive motion alert from by left clicking and dragging the mouse over your preferred area.
  • Tip: To delete a selected area, left click each box individually to delete the detection region.
  • To exit, right click > Select “Return”.

ARMING TIME

Please Note: This setting allows you to be notified when motion is detected during certain times of the day. If you wish to be notified of all motion in the cameras field of view/detection region at all times, skip this step.
This setting is only available when motion detection is selected in Motion Detection and Video Loss settings.

  • To access this setting, right click to view the main menu > Select System Setup > Select Channel Setup > Select Video Detection.
  • Select the channel you want to adjust the arming time for.
  • Select “Arming Time”.

  • Select “Reset” to customize your Arming Time preference or un-select the hours and/or days you do not want to receive notifications.
  • Select “Ok” and “Apply”.

CAMERA RECORDING COLOR PREFERENCE

You have the option to customize each camera to one of five vision modes.
Please Note: Your Camera’s default setting is set to Smart Mode. If this is your preferred setting, skip this step.

To customize your camera recording color preference, from the live view, left click on the channel you wish to change > Select Light & Color > Open the Ircut Mode menu > Select your preferred option.

Repeat for each channel.

  1. Infrared – The camera will record full color during the day and black and white at night.
  2. Daylight – The camera will always record in full color. The image quality during the night is solely reliant on ambient light condition.
  3. Night – The camera will record in black and white during the day and night.
  4. Full Color – The camera will always record in color. At night, the white light will remain on to enable full color recording.
  5. Smart – The camera will record in full color during the day. At night, the camera will record in black and white however, when motion is detected, the white light will turn on for up to 60 seconds or as long as motion is detected, enabling color night recording during that duration.

AUDIO RECORDING

Please Note: Audio Recording must be enabled/changed in your NVR and in your Defender Empower App Settings.
To enable audio recording on your NVR, from the live view screen left click on the channel you want to record audio > Click the speaker icon

Repeat for each channel you wish to record audio.

USING THE APP

The Defender Empower App allows you to remotely view live and pre-recorded video, save and share footage, share App access and receive customized notifications. Other App functions may not be supported.
