Safety precautions
CAUTION!
-
Failure to observe the following basic safety precautions may result in serious personal injury or material damage due to fire or explosion.
Installation and assembly -
Before you start, read the user manual and the installation instructions carefully.
WARNING! Never use the barbecue if there is any visible damage. Never make any technical modifications to the barbecue. Only use original spare parts from LANDMANN.
DANGER! Never install this barbecue in an integrated or slide-in construction. This barbecue is not suitable for installation in caravans or boats.
Operation and use
WARNING! Use the barbecue exclusively for the intended purpose.
DANGER! Only use the barbecue outdoors in a well-ventilated spot and above ground level (i.e. not in areas below ground level). Do not use the barbecue in garages, buildings, covered passageways, tents, awnings and other closed areas or combustible structures.
- Fire or smouldering fire if flammable materials or substances are near the barbecue. Choose an area for installation where no flammable materials or substances are, or will be, in close proximity to the barbecue. Minimum distance to flammable materials or substances: 2 m overhead and 1 m to the side. Distance to flame-resistant materials, e.g. house walls: at least 0.6 m.
CAUTION! Accessible parts can become very hot. Keep children away. Wear barbecue mittens while using the barbecue (approved as per EN 407).
WARNING!
- The barbecue must stand level during operation and must not be moved.
- Never leave the barbecue unattended when in use. Take particular care to ensure that children and individuals with physical or mental disabilities are kept away from the barbecue. They may not be able to identify the dangers correctly.
DANGER!
- Gas is highly flammable. When connecting the gas cylinder make sure that there are no sources of ignition within a 5 m radius. Protect the gas cylinder and the gas hose from direct sunlight and other sources of heat (max. 50 °C). Take particular care to ensure that the gas hose does not touch any part of the hot barbecue.
- Before each use check to ensure that all of the connections through which gas is supplied are sealed and intact. The barbecue must not be used if the connections for the gas supply are porous or faulty. This also applies, for example, to hoses or fittings that are blocked with insects, as this can result in a dangerous flashback.
- When igniting the gas flame, do not bend over the barbecue surface as deflagration can occur if gas has accumulated in the combustion chamber.
CAUTION! Clean the grease tray, grill grate and grill plates regularly to avoid deposits that could lead to a grease fire.
WARNING! Do not close any openings on the sides or on the back of the unit.
Storage and/or non-use
WARNING!
- Close the valve on the gas cylinder immediately when you finish using the barbecue.
WARNING!
If the barbecue is not going to be used for a prolonged period, cut off the
supply from the gas cylinder and store properly.
- Fit the gas cylinder valve with a cap nut and safety cap.
- Gas cylinders must be kept outdoors and out of the reach of children.
- Gas cylinders must not be stored below ground level, in garages, in stairwells, corridors or other closed rooms.
Important information about gas & gas connections
Liquid gas (LPG) propane, butane and mixtures that remain liquid at room
temperature and low compression (< 10 bar). When the gas cylinder is opened,
the pressure escapes and the liquid expands to the gaseous state.
Instructions for safely handling a gas cylinder:
- Never use a dented or rusty liquid gas cylinder.
- Never use a liquid gas cylinder with a damaged valve.
- Never place a liquid gas cylinder on its side, always install, transport and store liquid gas cylinders in a stable, upright position.
- Never expose a liquid gas cylinder to extreme heat or direct sunlight.
- Empty liquid gas cylinders must not be stored directly next to a gas barbecue that is being used. Even apparently empty liquid gas cylinder can still contain liquid gas and must therefore be treated with the same care as a full liquid gas cylinder.
- When connecting and changing the gas cylinder, make sure that you do this only in rooms that are sufficiently ventilated or outdoors. Make sure that there are no open fires or other sources of ignition, as well as other persons in the vicinity.
Requirements for a liquid gas cylinder:
Only use liquid gas cylinders that comply with national regulations. Use
liquid gas cylinders with the maximum dimensions as specified in the
installation instructions for your product.
There are two ways to position a liquid gas cylinder:
- The liquid gas cylinder can be placed directly under the gas barbecue in a bracket provided for this purpose.
- If placed on the floor, the liquid gas cylinder may only be positioned at the side or rear of the barbecue. In this case, make sure that the ground is firm and level.
Please refer to the enclosed appliance-specific installation instructions (technical information) to find out which variant is permitted for your LANDMANN gas barbecue.
Requirements for a screw-type cartridge:
If your LANDMANN product is approved for use with a butane/propane mix
cartridge, only use screw in cartridges with a 7/16″ thread and a maximum
capacity of 450g / 800ml.
Requirements for the gas pressure regulator:
The gas pressure regulator ensures that the gas barbecue is always supplied
with a uniform gas pressure.
Only use the gas pressure regulator supplied with your gas barbecue. If your
gas barbecue was delivered without a gas pressure regulator (country-
dependent), procure a gas pressure regulator that complies with your national
regulations.
The supplied gas pressure regulator is tested and CE-certified according to the European standard EN 16129.
Requirements for the hose line:
The hose line forms the connection between the liquid gas bottle and the gas
barbecue.
The tested and CE-certified hose line must not be longer than 1.5 m.
Before each use, check whether the hose line has any cracks or is worn.
- Make sure that the hose line does not have any kinks.
- Make sure that the hose line does not touch any hot surfaces.
Only use the hose line supplied with your gas barbecue. If your gas barbecue was delivered without a hose line (country-dependent), procure a hose line that complies with your national regulations.
Liquid gas cylinder connection
Please note the different national connection options for liquid gas cylinders. Different pressure regulators are used accordingly.
- Make sure that all burner control knobs are in the OFF position. Press the control knobs inwards and turn them clockwise.
- Determine the controller type and connect the controller to the liquid gas cylinder according to the instructions.
- Make sure that the gas cylinder valve or the pressure regulator lever is closed.
Note: The pressure regulator supplied may differ slightly from the regulator shown due to national regulations.
A. Connecting the pressure regulator with a left-hand thread. Screw the pressure regulator to the liquid gas cylinder connection. To do this, turn the pressure regulator coupling nut anti-clockwise. Turn the valve (a) on the liquid gas cylinder anti-clockwise so that the gas flows out and you can start up the barbecue.
B. Connecting the pressure regulator with a lever. Turn the pressure regulator lever (b) clockwise to the OFF position. Press the pressure regulator onto the liquid gas cylinder valve until the pressure regulator obviously engages. Turn the lever anti-clockwise to ON so that the gas flows out and you can start up the barbecue.
C. Connecting the pressure regulator with a collar. Make sure that the pressure regulator lever (b) is in the OFF position. Slide up the collar on the pressure regulator and maintain the pressure. Press the pressure regulator onto the gas cylinder valve and slide down the collar to close it. If the pressure regulator does not engage, repeat the procedure.
D. Connecting the pressure regulator to a screw-in cartridge. If your appliance has a pressure regulator for a cartridge connection, only use gas cartridges with a screw connection. Before connecting the gas cartridge, check that the rubber seal on the pressure regulator is present and in perfect condition. Screw the gas cartridge onto the pressure regulator anti-clockwise the underside. Make sure that the valve (b) is closed. Now turn the valve (b) to (+).
Removing the pressure regulator:
- Make sure that the gas cylinder valve (a) or the pressure regulator lever (b) is closed.
- Turn on all the burner control knobs so that the remaining gas in the system can escape.
- Now remove the pressure regulator in the opposite order to as described above.
Leakage check:
Open the gas cylinder valve (a) or the pressure regulator lever (b) and use a
standard leak indicator to check whether all connections on the gas system and
the connection between the gas cylinder and the pressure regulator are tight.
For this purpose, moisten all gas connections with a standard leak indicator
or soapy water (80% water, 20% liquid soap). Bubbles form at leaks in the
joints. Observe the instructions for the leak indicator! Never check for leaks
using a naked flame. Listening for leaks is not a reliable method of
detection.
If a leak is detected, close the gas cylinder valve (a) or the pressure regulator lever (b) immediately and tighten the loose connection or replace the leaking part.
Repeat the leak test.
DANGER! Never search for gas leaks using an open flame. Before checking
for leaks, make sure that no sparks or
open flames can form in the vicinity. Sparks or flames can cause an explosion
which can lead to serious or even fatal injuries or material damage.
Cleaning and maintenance
To ensure your gas barbecue serves you well for many years to come, it should be cleaned after each use.
DANGER!
- Risk of burns, some parts of the barbecue can get very hot. Allow the barbecue to cool down sufficiently before cleaning it.
- Excessive accumulation of food residues and cooking fat can lead to a grease fire.
If the gas barbecue is not cleaned and maintained on a regular basis, its performance may decrease over time. Low temperatures, uneven heat distribution and food sticking to the grill grid are indications that the barbecue should be cleaned and maintained. Make sure that the barbecue is switched off and cooled down. Cleaning and maintenance depends on use.
Cleaning the inside of the barbecue:
During use, carbon is formed from evaporated fat and smoke and is deposited on
the inside of the barbecue. These brown and black deposits look similar to
colour stains, but are not toxic.
Remove all food residues and fat accumulations in the whole combustion
chamber.
These deposits can be easily removed using a dedicated grill brush.
Then wipe the surfaces clean using a soft cloth. If there is heavy
contamination, you can wash it off using warm soapy water and wipe it dry with
a non-abrasive cloth.
Cleaning the burners:
Clean the entire outer surface of the burners using a wire brush to remove
food residue and dirt. Take care not to bend or damage the ignition electrode
during cleaning. Carefully brush around the ignition electrode.
Make sure that the side air inlets are clear on each burner hose. If
necessary, clean the air inlet openings, for example with a pipe cleaner.
The gas outlet nozzles on the adjusters (behind the front panel) can be
cleaned with a pin if necessary.
Cleaning the infrared burner:
Note: Avoid water contact with the infrared burners
Run the infrared burner at maximum power with the lid open for 5 minutes
without any food on the barbecue so that grease or food residues will burn
off.
Once the barbecue has cooled down, carefully vacuum off the burnt particles.
Cleaning the grease collection system:
The grease tray and the grease pan are designed for easy removal and cleaning.
Empty and clean the grease tray and grease pan before each use. Old grease is
highly flammable and can lead to a grease fire.
Cleaning the outsides:
The outside of the barbecue is made of different materials and surfaces, so we
recommend different cleaning methods depending on the type of surface.
Stainless steel surfaces
Use a non-toxic, non-abrasive stainless steel cleaner or polish for outdoor
products and barbecues to clean the stainless steel surfaces. Use a soft cloth
for cleaning. Observe the information provided by the cleaning agent
manufacturer.
Painted, porcelain-enameled surfaces and plastic parts Only use warm soapy water and kitchen towels or a soft cloth for cleaning. Clean the surface, rinse and wipe the surface dry.
Do not use corrosive or abrasive cleaning agents as they can damage the surfaces.
Note: If the barbecue is exposed to a particularly harsh environment, the
outside of the barbecue must be cleaned more frequently.
In environments containing chloride and sulphide, stainless steel can also
oxidise or stain. Especially in coastal areas; salt water, acid rain and other
extreme conditions, e.g. near pools and whirlpools that are characterised by
high heat and humidity. These stains are sometimes confused with rust, but
they can be easily removed and avoided. Wipe all stainless steel surfaces
every 3 to 4 weeks using tap water and a stainless steel cleaner to prevent
staining.
Environmental information and waste disposal measures
Pay attention to cleanliness when using the barbecue and dispose of waste in a
clean and safe manner.
Packaging and old equipment must also be disposed of properly.
To dispose of the barbecue, disassemble it into its individual parts and recycle the metal and plastic parts.
This symbol indicates that you must not dispose of this product with household
waste.
Old electrical appliances are recyclable materials and should therefore not be
disposed of with household waste.
If you dispose of your barbecue, all electrical components, e.g. electric
motor for spit, ignition modules, batteries, etc. must be disposed of
separately.
We would therefore like to ask you to support us with your active contribution to the conservation of resources and environmental protection and to return these appliances to the collection points, if available.
Local national regulations apply. For further information, please contact your local administration or consumer centres.
