Safety Information

  1. Read Instructions – All the safety and operating instructions should be read before the appliance is operated.

  2. Retain Instructions – The safety and operating instructions should be retained for future reference.

  3. Heed Warnings – All warnings on the appliance and in the operating instructions should be adhered to.

  4. Water and Moisture – Do not use the apparatus near water (e.g. bathtub, sink, swimming pool) or in wet places or tropical climates. Do not place objects filled with liquids,  such as vases, on top of the apparatus. Do not expose the apparatus to dripping or splashing.

  5. Setup – The apparatus should only be placed on a stable, flat surface. Do not let the apparatus fall down or expose it to shock.

  6. W-LAN RF Exposure – To maintain compliance with the W-LAN RF exposure requirements, place the product at least 20 cm (away from nearby persons except when operating the controls.

  7. Wall or Ceiling Mounting – This product is not intended for wall or ceiling mounting.

  8. Ventilation – The appliance should be situated so that its location or position does not interfere with its proper ventilation. For example, the appliance should not be situated on a bed, sofa, rug, or similar surface that may block the ventilation openings; or, placed in a built-in installation, such as a bookcase or cabinet that may impede the flow of air through the ventilation openings.
    Ensure a minimum distance of 5 cm around the apparatus for sufficient ventilation. Ensure that the ventilation is not impeded by covering the ventilation openings with items such as newspapers, tablecloths, curtains, etc.

  9. Heat – The appliance should be situated away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other appliances (including amplifiers) that produce heat.

  10. Power Sources – The appliance should be connected to a power supply only of the type described in the operating instructions or as marked on the appliance.

  11. Cables and Plugs – The main plug shall remain readily operable. All cables should be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them, paying particular attention to cords at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the appliance.

  12. Cleaning – The appliance should be cleaned only as recommended by the manufacturer. Clean by wiping with a dry and clean cloth. Do not use chemical cleaners or detergents. Always pull the mains plug before cleaning the unit.

  13. Non-use Periods – The power cord of the appliance should be unplugged from the outlet when left unused for a long period of time.

  14. Object and Liquid Entry – Care should be taken so that objects do not fall and liquids are not spilled into the enclosure through openings.

  15. Damage Requiring Service – The appliance should be serviced by qualified service personnel when:
    a) The power-supply cord or the plug has been damaged; or
    b) Objects have fallen, or liquid has been spilled into the appliance; or
    c) The appliance has been exposed to rain; or
    d) The appliance does not appear to operate normally or exhibits a marked change in performance; or
    e) The appliance has been dropped, or the enclosure damaged.

  16. Servicing – The user should not attempt to service the appliance beyond that described in the operating instructions. All other servicing should be referred to qualified service personnel.

  17. Open Fire – Keep the apparatus away from open fires. Do not place naked flame sources, such as lighted candles on the apparatus.

  18. Thunderstorms – During a thunderstorm, the mains plug should be unplugged.

  19. Safety Check – After servicing the technician should conduct a safety check in order to ensure that the apparatus is working properly and safely.

  20. Batteries – Always place batteries in the correct polarization into electrical components. The danger of explosion if the battery is incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type. Do not mix old and new batteries. Take attention to the environmental aspects of battery disposal. Batteries shall not be exposed to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire, or the like. Remove batteries before disposing of the product.

  21. Volume Levels – To prevent possible hearing damage, do not listen at high volume levels for long periods.

  22. Headphones – Excessive sound pressure from earphones and headphones can cause hearing loss.

FURTHER NOTES ON THE DEVICE
Setting a safe volume level

  • If you continually listen to loud music, your hearing gradually adapts to it and gives you the impression that the volume is lower.
  • What seems normal to you can be already for long time too loud and unhealthy.
  • To protect yourself from this, set the volume to a low level.
  • Increase the volume slowly.
  • Damage to your hearing can be extensive and cannot be reversed.
  • If you notice a hearing problem, please consult a doctor.

Condensation

  • Condensation may occur when moving the device from a cold to a warm environment. If there is moisture inside the player, it may not operate properly. Don’t turn on the device and wait about one hour for the moisture to evaporate.

Saving energy

  • If the unit is not used for a long period of time, it should be unplugged from the AC socket.
  • If there is no playback in any mode (except radio) for 15 minutes and no button is pressed, then the unit will switch to standby mode automatically. To turn the unit back on, press the Power button.

Unpacking

  • Take out carefully the unit from the packing. Please keep the packing for further use.
  • Carefully remove possible protection cardboard and slipcovers.

Connecting the Speakers

  • Connect the speaker cables to the speaker output on the rear of the unit.
  • Make sure to connect the red cable to the red connector, and the black cable to the black connector.

Connecting the Antenna

  • Connect the supplied wire antenna to the antenna connector on the rear of the unit.
  • For best reception, the wire antenna should be fully extended.

Display

  1. Mode (Internet radio, Podcasts, DAB+, FM, Bluetooth, Aux or Phono).

  2. Clock: Shows the current time.

  3. Name of the current radio station.

  4. Slide: Displays slides transmitted by the radio station (e.g. station logo, album covers, weather forecast, etc.).
    In internet radio and DAB mode press the OK button to enlarge the slide.

  5. The info field shows different info that is being broadcast from the current radio station (e.g. program name and type, the song currently playing, frequency details, signal error, and strength). Press the INFO button repeatedly to cycle through such information.

  6. Alarm indicator(s) will be shown when alarms 1 and/or 2 are active.

  7. The preset indicator will be shown with the preset number when the current station is saved as preset.

  8. Signal strength indicator.

Power Supply

AC/DC Adaptor

  1. Connect the supplied adaptor’s DC output plug to the DC-in jack of the unit.
  2. Firmly and securely plug the supplied adaptor’s AC plug into a suitable AC main outlet. Make sure that the main outlet’s output power matches the required power of the adaptor.

Notes:

  • If the unit is not to be used for an extended period of time, disconnect it from the power.
  • Only use the supplied AC/DC adaptor.

Remote Control Batteries
Insert two 1.5V “AAA” batteries (not included) in the remote control.
Notes:

  • Pay attention to the safety information on page 22.
  • If the remote control is not used for a longer period of time, the batteries should be removed.
  • If the remote control’s working range becomes less the batteries might be weak and should be replaced.

First Installation

When you power the unit for the first time, it will automatically launch the setup wizard for easy installation and setup of your new radio. If you wish to skip the setup wizard you can do so in the menu (setup wizard can be launched at any time in the Systems Setting menu).

When you chose to continue with the setup wizard, follow the instructions on the display: Language: Select your language.
Date/Time: Select between 12 and 24-hour format.
Auto update: Select from which source time/date should be synchronized. If you choose “No update” you need to set time/date manually.
Set timezone: Select your timezone (UTC +01:00 for Germany).
Daylight Savings: Select “ON” for countries with daylight savings time.
Network settings: Select to keep the network connected even when the unit is in standby mode. Otherwise, the network will only be available when the unit is switched on.
The unit will now scan for available networks and then list them: SSID: Select your desired network.

WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)

WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) is a standard for easy setup of a wireless home network.
If your selected network supports WPS you can chose from the following options for easy setup:
Push button: The device prompts you to press the connect button on your router. It then scans for a ready Push Button Connect network and connects.
Enter PIN: The device generates an 8-digit code which you enter into the wireless router, access point, or an external registrar.
Skip WPS: Skip WPS and proceed with the network setup as you would otherwise.
For more info please also refer to your router’s instructions.

Key: Enter the network key.

Once you’ve entered the correct key, the Setup Wizard will be finished:

You can now select the mode in which you wish to proceed.

Basic Functions

Switching the Unit On & Off (Standby Mode)

  1. Power the unit as described above.
  2. To switch the unit on, press the Power button on the remote control or the /VOLUME button on the unit. The unit will switch to the last mode used.
  3. To switch the unit off (standby mode), press the Power button on the remote control or the /VOLUME button on the unit. The unit will switch to the last mode used.

Mode Selection

To select between the different modes, you can either

  • press the MODE button on the unit and then select the desired mode using the NAVIGATE knob and then press OK, or
  • press the MODE button on the remote control, select the desired mode using the arrow buttons and press OK.

Volume Control

  • Increase the volume by pressing the VOLUME+ button on the remote control or rotating the VOLUME knob on the unit clockwise.
  • Decrease the volume by pressing the VOLUME- button on the remote control or rotating the VOLUME knob on the unit counter-clockwise.

Mute

  • To mute the sound, press the MUTE button on the remote control or on the unit. Press the button again to turn the sound back on.

Equalizer (EQ)

  • This unit has several different equalizers presets as well as a user-adjustable equalizer setting.

  • To select between different EQ presets, press the EQ button on the remote control to enter the EQ menu. Select the desired preset using the ▲/▼ buttons and then press  OK.
    Display Backlight & Timeout Function

  • The display brightness can be adjusted in 3 levels (high, medium, low).

  • The brightness level can be adjusted by pressing the DIMMER button on the remote control repeatedly or in the system settings menu (System Settings > Backlight).

  • The Timeout setting in the same menu allows you to set a time after which the display brightness dims down while in standby mode.

Sleep Timer
The sleep function enables you to set a timer after which the unit will turn itself into standby mode automatically.

  • While in any mode, press the SLEEP button on the remote control repeatedly to set the desired time.
  • You can select between 15, 30, 45, 60, 90 or 120 minutes. Press OK to confirm your setting.
  • When the sleep timer is activated the display will show a sleep timer symbol with the remaining time at the bottom.
  • To change or cancel the sleep function, press the SLEEP button repeatedly to change the desired time or until “Sleep OFF” appears in the display.

Time/Date & Alarms

Time/Date
Time and date will be automatically synchronized through the mode which you select during the setup wizard.
That means that upon the initial installation of the unit, time and date will be set automatically through that signal and you do not need to set them manually.
If you do wish to set the time and date manually, you can do so inside the System Settings menu.

Alarms
This unit enables you to set 2 separate alarms. You can select to wake to the buzzer, Internet Radio, DAB+ or FM. To set an alarm the unit must be switched on.

  1. Press the ALARM button on the remote control to enter the alarm setup menu.

  2. Select whether you want to edit alarm 1 or alarm 2 and press OK.

  3. You can now do the detailed settings (use the arrow buttons ▲/▼ to scroll through the items and OK or ► to view the options, press ◄ to go back to the previous  menu):
    Enable: Set the alarm Off or chose between Daily, Once, Weekends, and Weekdays (Mo-Fr).
    Time: Set the desired wake-up time.
    Mode: Select the alarm source (buzzer, Internet Radio, DAB+, or FM).
    Preset: When one of the radio modes is set for mode, select which station should be played (this setting is not available when the buzzer is selected for mode).
    Volume: Set the max. alarm volume. When the alarm comes on, the volume will increase up to the set max. volume.
    Save: Save your settings.

  4. You can exit the alarm setting menu now. When you set the Alarm “On” it will sound at the set time/day.

Deactivating an Alarm

  • To deactivate a set alarm, enter the alarm settings menu and set Enable to “Off”. The alarm is not active and will not sound.
  • Alternatively, while the unit is in standby mode, you can press the ALARM button on the remote control repeatedly to set alarms 1 and 2 on or off.

Stopping an Active Alarm

  • When the alarm is sounding, press the ALARM button or the Power button on the remote control or the /VOLUME button on the unit to turn it off. The alarm will come on again on the next day at the set time (depending on the set interval). Snooze The snooze function allows you to delay an active alarm. To do so, press the OK button on the remote control repeatedly (or rotate the VOLUME knob on the unit) while the alarm is active to set a snooze time of 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes. The alarm will stop and come on again after the set time. While the snooze function is active the alarm symbol is flashing. To cancel this function, press the Power button.

Snooze
The snooze function allows you to delay an active alarm. To do so, press the OK button on the remote control repeatedly (or rotate the VOLUME knob on the unit) while the alarm is active to set a snooze time of 5, 10, 15, or 30 minutes. The alarm will stop and come on again after the set time. While the snooze function is active the alarm symbol is flashing.
To cancel this function, press the Power button.

Internet Radio & Podcasts

Internet radio allows you to tune into tens of thousands of radio stations from all around the world.
Switch the unit on as described previously. It will start in the mode last listened to. Select Internet Radio mode if it isn’t already selected.
Internet Radio Menu
While in Internet Radio mode you can enter the Internet Radio menu by pressing the MENU button on the remote control or on the unit.
Navigate through the menu using the arrow buttons on the remote control or the NAVIGATE knob on the unit. Press the OK button or the ► button to enter submenus or confirm selections. Press the ◄  button or the MENU button to return to the previous menu or exit the menu.

Last listened Shows the stations last listened to.
Station List Enter the station list menu.
System Settings See chapter 16. System Settings Menu.
Main Menu Go to the main menu.

Station List
While in Internet Radio mode press the ▲/▼ buttons on the remote control or the NAVIGATE knob on the unit to enter the Station List directly. Alternatively, you can access  it through the Internet Radio menu.

Germany View local German stations.
Search Search for a station by name.
Location Search all stations by location.
Popular View popular stations.
Discover Discover stations by location, genre and language.

Presets
This unit enables you to store up to 40 of your favorite radio stations:

  1. Select a radio station that you would like to store.
  2. Press and hold for 2 seconds the FAV button on the remote control to enter the preset menu. Alternatively, you can press and hold one of the PRESET 1-3 buttons on the unit to store the station directly on one of those presets.
  3. In the preset menu select the preset no. on which the station should be stored using the ▲/▼ buttons on the remote control or the NAVIGATE knob on the unit.
  4. Confirm by pressing the OK button.
  5. To recall a stored frequency, press the FAV button on the remote control once to view the preset list, select the desired station using the ▲/▼ buttons on the remote control or the NAVIGATE knob on the unit and press OK to play that station.
    Alternatively, you can select the desired preset station directly by pressing the corresponding Number button (1-10) on the remote control (presets 11-40 need to be selected from the list).
    Presets 1-3 can be selected by pressing the corresponding PRESET 1-3 button on the unit.

Podcasts
To find and listen to your favorite Podcasts, select “Podcasts” from the mode selection menu.

DAB+

Switch the unit on as described previously. It will start in the mode last listened to. Select DAB+ mode if it isn’t already selected.

  • When you switch to DAB+ mode for the first time, the unit will do a full scan for available stations automatically. You can do another full scan any time inside the Digital  Radio menu (press MENU and select “Scan”).
  • You can view and scroll through the channel list by pressing the ▲ or ▼ button on the remote control or the NAVIGATE knob on the unit and then select a desired  station by pressing the OK button.

Station List
While in Internet Radio mode press the ▲/▼ buttons on the remote control or the NAVIGATE knob on the unit to enter the Station List directly. Alternatively, you can access it through the DAB Radio menu.
Radio Station Presets
This unit enables you to store up to 40 of your favorite radio stations.
To store and recall radio station presets the steps are the same as described in chapter 9. Internet
Radio & Podcasts.
Display
The content of the display depends on the broadcast of the radio station selected.
See chapter 4. Display about possible display information.
DAB Radio Menu
While in DAB+ mode you can enter the Digital Radio menu by pressing the MENU button on the remote control or on the unit.
Navigate through the menu using the arrow buttons on the remote control or the NAVIGATE knob on the unit. Press the OK button or the ► button to enter submenus or confirm selections. Press the ◄ button or the MENU button to return to the previous menu or exit the menu.

Station List View the station list.
Scan Do a full scan for available radio stations.
Manual Tune Manual tune the frequencies.
Prune Invalid Yes – Deletes all invalid stations from the station list.

No – Cancel and return to the menu.
DRC| High| This function reduces the difference between the loudest and quietest audio being broadcast.
Effectively, this makes quiet sounds comparatively louder, and loud sounds comparatively quieter.
Note: DRC only works if it is enabled by the broadcaster for a specific station.
Low
Off
Station order| Select from different options for sorting the radio stations.
System Settings| See chapter 16. System Settings Menu.
Main Menu| Go to the main menu.

FM

  1. Switch the unit on as described previously. It will start in the mode last listened to. Select FM mode if it isn’t already selected.
  2. Press the ▲/▼ buttons on the remote control or the NAVIGATE knob on the unit to manually search for a frequency. Each press adjusts the frequency by 0.05 MHz.
  3. To automatically search for the next available radio station, press the OK button.

Radio Station Presets
This unit enables you to store up to 40 of your favorite radio stations.
To store and recall radio station presets the steps are the same as described in chapter 9. Internet Radio & Podcasts.
Note: Due to software limitations the preset list in FM mode will show the frequency, not the station name.

RDS (Radio Data System)
This product is equipped with an RDS decoder. RDS allows text information to be transmitted by a radio station together with the audio broadcast.
This text information can include the name of the radio station, the name of the current program or song, news headlines, etc., and may vary from station to station.
When you have tuned into a radio station that is broadcasting RDS information, the RDS symbol will be shown in the display: be shown in the display:KARCHER

To cycle through such RDS information press the INFO button.
Notes:

  • Not all radio stations transmit RDS information. In such cases, the unit will not show any information.
  • RDS information broadcast may vary from station to station.
  • If the radio signal is weak, the transmission of RDS information may be disturbed or not shown properly.

FM Radio Menu
While in FM mode you can enter the FM Radio menu by pressing the MENU button on the remote control or on the unit.
Navigate through the menu using the arrow buttons on the remote control or the NAVIGATE knob on the unit. Press the OK button or the ► button to enter submenus or confirm selections. Press the ◄ button or the MENU button to return to the previous menu or exit the menu.

Scan Setting Select to scan for strong stations only.
Audio Setting When the signal in your area is weak (background noise) you can

select to force mono in order to receive radio stations clearer. In “Mono” background noise is suppressed to some extent.

Main Menu| Go to the main menu.

Bluetooth

The Bluetooth function lets you stream music from your smartphone, tablet or any other Bluetooth-enabled device through the speakers of MC 8000DI.

  1. To use the Bluetooth feature, first, switch the unit into Bluetooth mode. The Bluetooth icon in the display will be flashing when there is no device paired.

  2. Go to your device’s Bluetooth settings and search for MC 8000DI. If it isn’t found the first time, press the BT PAIR button on the remote control.

  3. Once your device shows MC 8000DI, connect and pair it. When a device is paired, the Bluetooth icon will be shown steadily. You can now enjoy music from your device through the speakers of MC 8000DI.

  4. To disconnect your device you can do so on your device.

AUX Input
You can connect the audio output of an external device such as an MP3 player to this unit to listen to the sound of that device through the amplifier of this music system.

  1. To connect the external device please use a standard stereo audio cable (3.5 mm to 3.5 mm plugs) to connect the headphone or audio line out of the external device to  the AUX input socket of this unit.
  2. Turn on the unit and select AUX mode.
  3. Switch the external device (e.g. MP3 player) on.
  4. Start playback of the external device and adjust the volume control of the main unit to the desired level.
  5. Remember to switch off the unit when you are finished using the external device.. AUX Input

  1. Switch the unit on as described previously. It will start in the mode last listened to. Select Phono mode if it isn’t already selected.

  2. Open the cover upwards and place a record on the center spindle.
    Make sure to remove the stylus cover from the stylus.

  3. Set the turntable speed selector to the appropriate speed (33, 45, or 78 RPM). If you are playing 45 RPM singles, place the 45 RPM adapter on the center spindle.

  4. Release the tone arm lock.

  5. Using the cue lever raises the tone arm off its rest and gently move the tonearm towards the record. The turntable will start turning.

  6. Carefully move the tone arm over the record and lower it at the desired spot using the cue lever.

  7. The playback will start.

Stopping & Auto Stop
Set the Auto Stop switch to ON: When the record reaches its end, the turntable will stop spinning. Raise the tone arm using the cue lever and move the tone arm back to its rest and lower it using the cue lever once again.
Set the Auto Stop switch to OFF: The turntable will keep spinning once the record has reached its end.
If you want to stop playback before the record reaches its end, carefully lift up the tone arm using the cue lever and gently move the tone arm above its rest. Lower the tone arm using the cue lever.

  • Raise and lower the tone arm always using the cue lever.

  • Do not turn or stop the turntable manually.

  • Moving or jarring the turntable without securing the tone arm clamp could result in damage to the tonearm.

  • Before playing, the needle and record should be cleaned properly to avoid premature wear.
    – Gently swipe the needle with a cleaning brush back to front.
    – With a special record cloth carefully wipe the record.

  • Before playing make sure that the needle is still in good condition, as it is prone to natural wear and tear during use.
    Used or splintered needles need to be replaced as they can cause damage to the record while playing. Only replace with original needles.

Main Menu

Enter the Main menu by pressing the MENU button on the remote control or on the unit and then selecting the Main Menu option.
Navigate through the menu using the arrow buttons on the remote control or the NAVIGATE knob on the unit. Press the OK button or the ► button to enter submenus or  confirm selections. Press the ◄ or MENU button on the remote control or the BACK button on the unit to return to the previous menu or exit the menu.

Internet radio Enter internet radio mode.
Podcasts Enter Podcasts mode.
DAB Enter DAB+ mode.
FM Enter FM mode.
Bluetooth Enter Bluetooth mode.
AUX in Enter AUX in mode.
Phono Enter Phono mode.
Sleep Sleep timer setting.
Alarms Alarm settings.

System Settings Menu

Enter the System Settings menu by pressing the MENU button in any mode and then selecting the System Settings option.
Navigate through the menu using the arrow buttons on the remote control or the NAVIGATE knob on the unit. Press the OK button or the ► button to enter submenus or confirm selections. Press the ◄ or MENU button on the remote control or the BACK button on the unit to return to the previous menu or exit the menu.

Equalizer Select equalizer presets and set and select your own equalizer.
Network Enter the Network Settings menu.
Time/Date Manually set the time if necessary and do other time/date settings,

such as selecting between digital and analog format in standby.
Language| Change the OSD menu language.
Factory Reset| Reset the unit to its factory presets. All user settings will be lost!
Software update| Check for availability of updated software.
Setup wizard| Launch the setup wizard.
Info| View infos such as software version.
Privacy policy| Link to view privacy policy of the radio module manufacturer.
Backlight| Set backlight timeout for standby mode.

Headphone Connector

A headphone jack is located at the front of the unit. When the unit is powered on and playing music, you can connect headphones (not included) to the headphone jack for your private listening. Mind the safety information from page 22 on.
With headphones connected the unit’s speakers are disabled. To listen via the speakers again, disconnect the headphones.

Troubleshooting

All other undetermined cases.| 1.| The device may be processing a large amount of data after a period of operation, no matter in which mode, it will cause malfunction. Reboot the device if necessary.
| 2.| Strong electromagnetic interference may interfere and cause malfunctions to the device. If the display indicates a problem, move the device away from near devices which cause electromagnetic interference or reset the device.
