BEFORE USE, PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW ALL SAFETY RULES AND OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS.

IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

Before the appliance is used, it must be properly positioned and installed as described in this manual, so read the manual carefully. To reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock or injury when using the appliance, follow basic precautions, including the following:

DANGER

  • Read all instructions before using the ice maker.
  • Plug into a grounded 3-prong outlet. Do not remove the grounding prong, do not use an adapter, and do not use an extension cord.
  • Replace all panels before operating.
  • It is recommended that a separate circuit serving only this appliance be provided. Use receptacles that cannot be turned off by a switch or pull chain.
  • Never clean appliance parts with flammable fluids, and do not store or use gasoline or other flammable vapors and liquids in the vicinity of this or any other appliance. The fumes can create a fire hazard or explosion.
  • Do not connect or disconnect the electric plug when your hands are wet.
  • Unplug the appliance or disconnect power before cleaning or servicing. Failure to do so can result in electrical shock or death.
  • Do not attempt to repair or replace any part of this appliance unless it is specifically recommended in this Owner’s Manual. All other servicing should be referred to a qualified technician.

DANGER: Risk of child entrapment!

Child entrapment and suffocation are not problems of the past. Junked or abandoned appliances are still dangerous, even if they will “just sit in the garage a few days”. Before you throw away your old icemaker or any appliance:

  • Remove the door.
  • Leave the shelves in place so that children may not easily climb inside.

WARNING: FOLLOW WARNING CALLOUTS BELOW ONLY WHEN APPLICABLE TO YOUR MODEL

  • Use two or more people to move and install appliance. Failure to do so can result in back or other injury.
  • To ensure proper ventilation for your appliance, the front of the appliance must be completely unobstructed. Choose a well-ventilated area with temperatures above 61°F (16°C) and below 95°F (35°C).
  • The appliance should not be located next to ovens, grills or other sources of high heat.
  • The appliance must be installed with all electrical, water and drain connections in accordance with state and local codes. A standard electrical supply (115V AC, 60Hz), properly grounded in accordance with the National Electrical Code and local codes and ordinances, is required.
  • Do not kink or pinch the power supply cord of the appliance.
  • The size of the fuse (or circuit breaker) should be 15 amperes.
  • It is important that the appliance be leveled in order to work properly. You may need to make several adjustments to level it.
  • This appliance is CFC- and HFC-free and contains a small quantity of Isobutane (R600a), which is environmentally friendly but flammable. It does not damage the ozone layer, nor does it increase the greenhouse effect. Care must be taken during transportation and setting up of the appliance that no parts of the cooling system are damaged. Leaking coolant can ignite and may damage the eyes.
  • In the event of any damage:
  • Avoid open flames and anything that creates a spark,
  • Disconnect from the electrical power line,
  • Air the room in which the appliance is located for several minutes, and
  • Contact the Service Department for advice.
  • The more coolant there is in an appliance, the larger the room it should be installed in. In the event of a leakage, if the appliance is in a small room, there is the danger of combustible gases building up. For every ounce of coolant, at least 325 cubic feet of room space is required. The amount of coolant in the appliance is stated on the data plate on the appliance. It is hazardous for anyone other than an Authorized Service Person to carry out servicing or repairs to this appliance.
  • Take serious care when handling, moving, and using the appliance to avoid either damaging the refrigerant tubing or increasing the risk of a leak.
  • Replacing component parts and servicing shall be done by factory-authorized service personnel so as to minimize the risk of possible ignition due to incorrect parts or improper service.
  • All installations must be in accordance with local plumbing code requirements.
  • Make certain that the pipes are not pinched, kinked, or damaged during installation.
  • Check for leaks after connection.
  • Never allow children to operate, play with, or crawl inside the appliance.
  • Do not use solvent-based cleaning agents or abrasives on the interior. These cleaners may damage or discolor the interior.
  • Use this appliance only for its intended purpose as described in this Owner’s Manual.
  • Keep fingers out of the “pinch point” areas. Clearances between the door and cabinet are necessarily small. Be careful closing the door when children are in the area.

  • Models with the suffix “ADA” are sized for installation under lower, ADA-compliant counters.
  • Models with a suffix of “IF” are designed to accept custom panels on the door. To reverse the swing of these doors, contact the Parts and Service team for a replacement door hinge.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Before Using Your Icemaker

  1. Remove the exterior and interior packing.

    • CAUTION: After unpacking you MUST allow this appliance to stand upright for at least 2 hours to allow the lubricant and refrigerant to drain back into the compressor and stabilize.
      Failure to do so may adversely affect performance and the lifetime of this appliance.
  2. Clean the interior surface with lukewarm water using a soft cloth.

  3. Install the handle on the left side of the door.

Installation of Your Icemaker

  • This appliance is designed for free standing or built-in (fully recessed) installation.
  • Place your icemaker on a floor that is strong enough to support it when it is fully loaded. To level your icemaker, adjust the front leveling legs.
  • For free-standing installation, 5” (127mm) of space between the back and sides of the appliance, and 4” (102mm) at the top, are suggested, which allows the proper air circulation to cool the compressor and condenser. Even for built-in installation, keep ¼” (6.35mm) space on each side and at the top and 2” (51mm) at the rear. If the appliance has an air vent at the front, take care that it is never covered or blocked in any way.
  • Locate the icemaker away from direct sunlight and sources of heat (stove, heater, radiator, etc.). Direct sunlight may affect the acrylic coating and heat sources may increase electrical consumption.
  • Extremely cold ambient temperatures may also cause the appliance not to perform properly.
  • Avoid locating the appliance in moist areas.
  • Plug the icemaker into an exclusive, properly installed, grounded wall outlet. Do not under any circumstances cut or remove the third (ground) prong from the power cord. Any questions concerning power and/or grounding should be directed toward a certified or authorized product service center.

Connecting Your Water Line

The in-cabinet icemaker produces and stores up to eight pounds of crescent ice cubes in a removable bin. Producing ice requires purchasing a ¼” OD copper tubing kit, which can be found at most hardware or plumbing supply stores. The kit contains all the hardware necessary to connect your in-cabinet icemaker to the water supply.

Forming the copper tubing

Loop the tubing coming from the water valve, as shown. Position the coiled copper tubing near the center of the appliance so that it forms an “accordion fold” (see diagram below) for when the icemaker is moved to and from the wall.

NOTE

  • The water valve is equipped with two strainers: a plastic basket type and a wire mesh screen. Turn off the water (the local water service center should be able to provide this service), and disassemble the water valve when cleaning both strainers. Consider installing a second water strainer in the water line if local water conditions require periodic cleaning, or if using a well as a water source. Obtain a water strainer from a local appliance dealer, if needed.
  • DO NOT USE PIERCING-TYPE OR 3/16” SHUT-OFF VALVES. They reduce flow of water to the in-cabinet icemaker and are easily clogged.
  • CUSTOMER INSTALLATION IS NOT WARRANTED BY THE ICEMAKER MANUFACTURER.

Reversing the Door Swing of the Icemaker

This appliance has the capability of the door opening from either the left or right side. The appliance is delivered with the door opening from the left side. Please follow the instructions below to reverse the opening side of the door. To make the reversal, you will find two hardware pieces in a plastic bag inside the appliance: the top left hinge and the bottom left hinge. The bottom support bracket is used for both sides.

  1. Carefully lay the appliance on its back. Use cushioning to protect the floor and appliance.
  2. Using a Philips screwdriver, remove the two screws and bottom right hinge beneath the door. Keep the hinge in a safe place in case you need to reverse the door again in the future.
  3. Carefully slide the door off and place it on a padded surface.
  4. Interchange the plastic shaft sleeves at the top of the door.
  5. Remove the bottom support bracket from the right side.
  6. Remove the top right hinge and keep in a safe place in case you want to reverse the door in the future.
  7. Remove the screws from the top left and transfer to the right.
  8. Install the top left hinge.
  9. Install the bottom left hinge to the door. Do not over-tighten the screws.
  10. Place the door back on the appliance, lining up the top hinge.
  11. Install the bottom support bracket.
  12. Adjust door alignment. When set, tighten the hinge screws.
  13. Remove handle. Transfer the screw hole covers to the left and install the handle on the right.

OPERATING YOUR ICE MAKER

The icemaker should be placed where the ambient temperature is between 61°F and 90°F (16°C to 32°C). If the ambient temperature is above or below this range, the performance of the appliance may be affected. For example, placing the appliance in extremely cold or hot conditions may cause interior temperatures to fluctuate.

ON/OFF Power

  • To turn the appliance on or off, press the ON/OFF button.

Setting the Temperature Control

  • Connect the power cord to a properly grounded outlet. In the event of a power interruption, all previous temperature settings are automatically erased, and the compartment will default to a preset temperature setting of -18°C (-0.4°F).
  • Set the desired cooling temperature by pressing the corresponding button . Each depression of the buttons will raise or lower the temperature setting by 1 degree. The temperature selected will flash in the LED display for approximately 5 seconds, then revert back to display the temperature of the interior cabinet.

NOTES

  • The temperature setting can be adjusted from -10°C to -30°C(from 14°F to -22°F).
  • To view the “set” temperature anytime, press once. The “set” temperature will flash in the LED display for 5 seconds.
  • This appliance has the option of displaying temperatures in either Celsius or Fahrenheit. To change the setting, press the °C/°F button.
  • The temperature inside the cabinet may vary slightly depending on whether stored items are located in the upper/middle or lower section.

“Fast Freeze” Function

If you press and hold the °C/°F button for 3 seconds, the appliance will enter the “Fast Freeze” mode. In this mode, press the buttons to set the fast freezing time. The setting time range is 1 to 10 hours, and the default setting time is 3 hours. If you set the fast freezing time longer than 4 hours, the appliance will defrost itself at the end of the “Fast Freeze” cycle. To stop the “Fast Freeze” function, again press the °C/°F button and hold it for at least 3 seconds.

Defrosting

The icemaker’s frost-free feature eliminates the need for manual defrosting. Defrosting takes place approximately every 14 hours (except when in the “Fast Freeze” mode); the defrost cycle lasts about 40 minutes. Melt water from the defrosting collects in a drip tray where it is evaporated. During the process of defrosting, the temperature display may be higher than the set temperature.
You can force the appliance into defrost mode at any time by pressing and holding the button for 3 seconds.

NOTE

  • If the appliance is unplugged, turned off, or if there is a power failure, you must wait 3 to 5 minutes before restarting the appliance. If you attempt to restart before this time delay, the icemaker will not work.
  • When using the icemaker for the first time, or restarting it after it has been shut off for a long time, there could be a few degrees variance between the set temperature and the temperature indicated on the LED readout. This is normal and is due to the length of the inactivated time. The temperature should normalize after running for a few hours.

Making Ice

  • Wash out the ice bucket. Slide it under the in-cabinet icemaker (see diagram below) as far as it will go. The ice bucket will be sitting on top of the freezer shelf.
  • Lower the arm on the in-cabinet icemaker (as shown in the diagram) to its “on” position, and close the freezer door.

NOTE:  It takes approximately 24 hours for the in-cabinet icemaker to begin producing ice. Once ice is available, you may notice that it has an off taste. If this happens, make two or three batches of ice and discard them. After that, the off taste should be gone.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

Cleaning Your Icemaker

  1. Turn off the power, unplug the appliance, and remove all items including shelves and racks.
  2. Wash the inside surfaces with warm water and baking soda solution. Prepare the solution by mixing about 2 tablespoons of baking soda with a quart of water.
  3. Wash the shelves with a mild detergent solution.
  4. Wring excess water out of the sponge or cloth when cleaning the area of the controls, or any electrical parts.
  5. Wash the outside cabinet with warm water and a mild liquid detergent. Rinse well and wipe dry with a clean soft cloth.

Power Failure

Most power failures are corrected within a few hours and should not affect the temperature of your appliance if you minimize the number of times the door is opened. Take the proper steps to protect the contents of the icemaker If your power is going to be off for a longer period of time.

Vacations

Leave the icemaker operating during vacations of less than three weeks. Leave the door slightly ajar to prevent the buildup of odors if you turn off the icemaker for an extended period.

Transporting Your Icemaker

If you need to move your icemaker once the box has been discarded:

  1. Securely tape down all loose items (shelves) inside your appliance.
  2. Turn the adjustable leg up to the base to avoid damage.
  3. Tape the door shut.
  4. Be sure the appliance stays secure in the upright position during transportation, and protect the outside of the appliance with a blanket or similar item.

Energy-Saving Tip

Place the icemaker in the coolest area of the room, away from heat-producing appliances and out of direct sunlight.

This product uses eco-friendly hydrocarbon refrigerant and fully complies with California CARB regulations. However, we are required by California Law to provide the following disclosure statement in every product sold in California. “This equipment is prohibited from use in California with any refrigerants on the ‘List of Prohibited Substances’ for that specific end-use, in accordance with California Code of Regulations, title 17, section 95374. This disclosure statement has been reviewed and approved by Felix Storch, Inc. and Felix Storch, Inc. attests, under penalty of perjury, that these statements are true and accurate.” This product does not use any refrigerants on the ‘List of Prohibited Substances”

PROBLEMS WITH YOUR ICEMAKER

You can solve many common icemaker problems easily, saving you the cost of a possible service call. Try the suggestions below to see if you can solve the problem before calling the servicer.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE FOR CABINET

Icemaker seems to make too much noise.| Some noise may come from the flow of the refrigerant, which is normal.

As each cycle ends, you may hear gurgling sounds caused by the flow of refrigerant in your ice maker.

Contraction and expansion of the inside walls may cause popping and crackling noises.

The icemaker is not level.

The door will not close properly.| The icemaker is not level.

The door was reversed and not properly reinstalled.

The gasket is dirty.

The shelves are out of position.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE FOR IN-CABINET ICEMAKER

PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE
Not enough ice It will take 48 hours to fill the ice bucket. The in-cabinet

more ice, adjust the temperature control to a cooler setting.

Water in in-cabinet icemaker overflows| The appliance is not level. If the in- cabinet icemaker still overflows after leveling, turn off the water supply at the shut-off valve, and raise the bail arm to the OFF position (see page

8); then contact your local service center.

Ice making has stopped| Be sure that the bail arm is lowered into the ice bucket.

Make sure the water shut-off valve is open.

The water shut-off valve or the water valve screen is clogged. Contact your local service center.

LIMITED WARRANTY

ONE-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY

Within the 48 contiguous United States, for one year from the date of purchase, when the appliance is operated and maintained according to instructions attached to or furnished with the product, the warrantor will pay tor factory-specified parts and repair labor to correct defects in materials or workmanship. Service must be provided by a designated service company. Outside the 48 states, all parts are warranted for one year from manufacturing defects. Plastic parts, shelves, and cabinets are warranted to be manufactured to commercially acceptable standards and are not covered from damage during handling or breakage.

FIVE-YEAR COMPRESSOR WARRANTY

  • The compressor is covered for five years.
  • Replacement does not include labor.

ITEMS WARRANTY WILL NOT PAY FOR

  1. Service calls to connect the installation of your appliance, to instruct you on how to use your appliance, to replace or repair fuses, or to correct wiring or plumbing.
  2. Service calls to repair or replace appliance light bulbs or broken shelves. Consumable parts (such as filters) are excluded from warranty coverage.
  3. Damage resulting from accident, alteration, misuse, abuse, fire, flood, acts of God, improper installation, installation not in accordance with electrical or plumbing codes, or use of products not approved by warrantor.
  4. Replacement parts or repair labor costs for units operated outside the United States.
  5. Repairs to parts to systems resulting from unauthorized modifications made to the appliance.
  6. The removal and reinstallation of your appliance if it is installed in an inaccessible location or is not installed in accordance with published installation instructions.
