- The working range may be reduced by unfavourable environmental conditions (e.g. direct sunlight).
- At 20–25 °C
- The angle accuracy between the 45° laser line and the 90°laser line is a maximum of ±0.4 mm/m.
- The values stated presuppose normal to favourable environmental conditions (e.g. no vibration, no fog, no smoke, no direct sunlight). Extreme fluctuations in temperature can cause deviations in accuracy.
- Only non-conductive deposits occur, whereby occasional temporary conductivity caused by condensation is expected.
The serial number (6) on the type plate is used to clearly identify your measuring tool.
Assembly
Inserting/Changing the batteries
It is recommended that you use alkaline manganese batteries to operate the
measuring tool. To open the battery compartment cover (8), press the locking
mechanism (7) and lift open the battery
compartment cover. Insert the batteries. When inserting the batteries, ensure
that the polarity is correct according to the illustration on the inside of
the battery compartment. If the battery warning (4) flashes, the batteries are
get-ting low. The measuring tool can be operated for approx. two more hours
once the warning begins to flash. If the battery warning (4) remains lit up,
no further measurements can be taken. The measuring tool switches off
automatically after a short time. Always replace all the batteries at the same
time. Only use batteries from the same manufacturer and which have the same
capacity.
- Take the batteries out of the measuring tool when you are not using it for a prolonged period of time. The batteries can corrode and self-discharge during prolonged storage in the measuring tool.
Operation
Starting Operation
- Protect the measuring tool from moisture and direct sunlight.
- Do not expose the measuring tool to any extreme temperatures or variations in temperature. For ex-ample, do not leave it in a car for extended periods of time. In case of large variations in temperature, allow the measuring tool to adjust to the ambient temperature before putting it into operation. The precision of the measuring tool may be compromised if exposed to extreme temperatures or variations in temperature.
- Avoid substantial knocks to the measuring tool and avoid dropping it. Always carry out an accuracy check before continuing work if the measuring tool has been subjected to severe external influences (see “Accuracy Check of the Measuring Tool”, page 16).
Switching on/off
To switch on the measuring tool, press the on/off button (3) once briefly. As
soon as it is switched on, the measuring tool emits the three laser lines (0°,
45° and 90°) from the outlet apertures (2). The battery warning (4) also
lights up for 3 s.
- Do not direct the laser beam at persons or animals and do not stare into the laser beam yourself (even from a distance).
Pressing the on/off button (3) a second time switches the measuring tool from 3‑line mode to 2‑line mode: Only the 0° and 90° laser lines are emitted in this mode. To switch off the measuring tool, press the on/off button (3) a third time.
- Never leave the measuring tool unattended when switched on, and ensure the measuring tool is switched off after use. Others may be blinded by the laser beam.
Deactivating the automatic shut-off function
The measuring tool automatically switches itself off after 30 min of
operation. To deactivate the automatic shut-off function, press and hold the
on/off button (3) for 3 s when switching on the measuring tool. If the
automatic shut-off function is de-activated, the laser lines will flash
briefly when the measuring tool is first switched on. To activate the
automatic shut-off function, switch the measuring tool off and then switch it
back on again by pressing the on/off button (3) briefly. Once the measuring
tool is switched back on, the laser lines will not flash.
Accuracy Check of the Measuring Tool
Influences on Accuracy
The largest influence is exerted by the ambient temperature. In particular,
temperature differences that occur from the ground upwards can refract the
laser beam. For this reason, place the measuring tool as close as possible to
the work surface and secure it with the base running as near parallel to the
work surface as possible. In addition to external influences, device-specific
influences (e.g. falls or heavy impacts) can also lead to deviations. For this
reason, check the angle accuracy each time before beginning work. Should the
measuring tool exceed the maximum deviation during one of the tests, please
have it repaired by a Bosch after-sales service.
Checking the angle accuracy between the 0° and 90°laser lines
For this check, you will need a clear area of firm, level ground measuring
approx. 10 × 5 m.
-
Place the measuring tool in one corner of the measuring area. Switch the measuring tool on and set it up so that the 0° laser line runs down the long side of the measuring area and the 90° laser line runs down the short side of the measuring area.
-
Mark the point where the two laser lines intersect on the ground (point Ⅰ). Make another mark in the centre of the 0° laser line at a distance of 5 m (point Ⅱ) and at a distance of 10 m (point Ⅲ).
-
Position the measuring tool (without rotating it) at a distance of 5 m so that the intersection point of the laser lines meets point Ⅱ and the 0° laser line runs through point Ⅲ. Mark the centre of the 90° laser line at a distance of 5 m (point Ⅳ).
-
Rotate the measuring tool through 90° so that the centre of the 0° laser line runs through point Ⅳ. The laser lines must still intersect at point Ⅱ. At a distance of 5 m, mark the centre of the 90° laser line as point Ⅴ as close as possible to point Ⅰ.
-
The discrepancy d between points Ⅴ and Ⅰ is the actual deviation of the 0° and 90° laser lines from the right angle.
The maximum permitted deviation over the measuring distance of 2 × 5 m = 10
m is as follows:
10 m × ±0.2 mm/m = ±2 mm. The discrepancy d between points Ⅰ and Ⅴ must
therefore amount to no more than 2 mm.

-
Rotate the measuring tool through 45° so that the centre of the 0° laser line runs through point Ⅴ. The laser lines must still intersect at point Ⅱ. At a distance of 5 m, mark the centre of the 45° laser line as point Ⅵ.
-
Rotate the measuring tool through 45° so that the centre of the 0° laser line runs through point Ⅵ. The laser lines must still intersect at point Ⅱ. At a distance of 5 m, mark the centre of the 45° laser line as point Ⅶ as close as possible to point Ⅰ.
-
The discrepancy d between points Ⅰ and Ⅶ is the actual deviation of the 0° and 45° laser lines.
The maximum permitted deviation over the measuring distance of 4 × 5 m = 20
m is as follows:
20 m × ±0.4 mm/m* = ±8 mm. The discrepancy d between points Ⅰ and Ⅶ must
therefore amount to no more than 8 mm.
- The value of ±0.4 mm/m is based on the angle accuracy of ±0.2 mm/m plus a potential uncertainty of 0.2 mm/m when rotating the measuring tool.
Working Advice
- Only the centre of the laser line must be used for marking. The width of the laser line changes depend-ing on the distance.
- Always place the measuring tool flat on the floor or mount it level on the wall. If the measuring tool is not placed flat or mounted level, the angle is less than 45° or 90°.
- Never align using the laser lines that the measuring tool projects onto the wall when the tool is positioned on the floor. The measuring tool is not self-levelling. Therefore, the line on the wall is distorted.
- Only ever place the measuring tool on a clean levelling plate. If the surface of the levelling plate (11) is uneven or dirty, the measuring tool is not level and may give false measurement readings.
The reference point with which to align tiles is the inter-section point P of the laser lines just in front of the measuring tool. To transmit an angle, the measuring tool must be rotated around this intersection point .
Working with the levelling plate
You can use the levelling plate (11) to lay the measuring tool flat on uneven or soft ground. The levelling plate (11) can also be used to mount the measuring tool to walls. Secure the levelling plate firmly in place on a wall or an angled surface so that it cannot slip, e.g. using commercially available screws. Use a spirit level to ensure the levelling plate is positioned level on the surface.
Positioning the measuring tool on the levelling plate:
Use the magnets (5) on the base to affix the measuring tool to the levelling
plate (11). Use the grid of lines on the top of the levelling plate as an aid
to position the measuring tool precisely. To transmit 90° or 45° angles, place
the levelling plate on a reference edge or on a projecting section of wall and
position the measuring tool as depicted on the top of the levelling plate.
Working with the Laser Target Plate
The laser target plate (9) improves visibility of the laser beam in unfavourable conditions and at greater distances. The reflective surface of the laser target plate (9) im-proves visibility of the laser line. The transparent surface enables the laser line to be seen from behind the laser target plate.
Laser Goggles
The laser goggles filter out ambient light. This makes the light of the laser
appear brighter to the eye.
- Do not use the laser goggles (accessory) as protective goggles. The laser goggles make the laser beam easier to see; they do not protect you against laser radiation.
- Do not use the laser goggles (accessory) as sunglasses or while driving. The laser goggles do not provide full UV protection and impair your ability to see colours.
Example applications
Checking right angles
Set the measuring tool in a corner of the room and position it so that the 0°
laser line runs parallel to the reference line (e.g. wall). Measure the
distance between the laser line and the reference line directly next to the
measuring tool and again as far as possible from the measuring tool. Align the
measuring tool so that both distances are equal. Then, from at least two
different points, measure the dis-tances between the 90° laser line and the
wall. If the distances to the 90° laser line are equal, the walls are at right
angles. Laying tiles in a square arrangement (see figure B) Set the measuring
tool in a corner so that the 0° laser line runs parallel to a wall. Lay the
first square tile at the point at which the 0° and 90° laser lines intersect.
Laying a diagonal arrangement (see figure C) Position the measuring tool so
that the 45° laser line marks the diagonal angle of the tile grout.
Tiling kitchens
First, establish the height at which the first row of tiles should start. Use
the levelling plate (11) to attach the measuring tool vertically to the wall,
so that the 90° laser line indicates the bottom edge of the first row of
tiles.
Tiling from edges
Place the measuring tool on the levelling plate (11) on the edge so that one
of the levelling plate’s (10) side notches is positioned right on the edge.
The 0° laser line should run parallel to an edge. The 90° laser line now marks
the bottom row of tiles.
Maintenance and Service
Maintenance and Cleaning
Keep the measuring tool clean at all times. Never immerse the measuring tool
in water or other liquids. Wipe off any dirt using a damp, soft cloth. Do not
use any detergents or solvents. The areas around the outlet aperture of the
laser in particular should be cleaned on a regular basis. Make sure to check
for lint when doing this. Only store and transport the measuring tool in the
protective pouch (13). If the measuring tool needs to be repaired, send it off
in the protective pouch (13).
