SH-4D Desktop Synthesizer Cable Kit
Before using this unit, carefully read “USING THE UNIT SAFELY” and “IMPORTANT NOTES” (the leaflet “USING THE UNIT SAFELY”). After reading, keep the document(s) where it will be available for immediate reference.
Top Panel (Control Section)
No. | Name | Explanation |
---|---|---|
1. | [SOUND] button | Displays the tone list (sound browser) and switches |
between tones.
[SHIFT] button| Changes the [START], [PATTERN], [1]-[16] and
[PAGE/TIE] buttons to access the lower functions
for each button.
[1] [2] knobs| Selects and sets the items on the screen.
[<] [>] [∧] [∨] buttons
[ENTER] button| Confirms the value or executes the operation.
[EXIT] button| Returns you to the previous screen.
In some screens, this cancels the operation currently being executed.
- If you operate a knob or button while holding down the [EXIT] button, you can check the edited value without actually changing the tone.
2.| OSC section| Selects/edits the oscillator model.
For details, refer to the “Owner’s Manual” (Roland Website).
3.| FILTER/AMP/LFO section| Use these controls to edit the tones.
For details, refer to the “Owner’s Manual” (Roland Website).
4.| EFFECTS section
5.| [VOLUME] knob| Adjusts the volume.
6.| [START] button| Plays/stops the sequencer.
[PATTERN] button| When this is ON, you can select the patterns with the [1]-[16] buttons. - Use the [PAGE/TIE] button to switch between banks.
[1]-[16], [PAGE/ TIE] buttons| Use these buttons to input notes into the sequencer and to select a pattern.
7.| OOCTAVE [-] [+] buttons| Switches between octaves for the keyboard section.
8.| PITCH [-] [+] buttons| Changes the pitch of the currently selected part while you hold down these buttons.
9.| Keyboard section| Use these buttons as a keyboard.
These can be used in combination with the [1]-[16] buttons to input notes into the sequencer.
10.| [ARPEGGIO] button| Turns the arpeggio on/off.
Use this in combination with the [SHIFT] button to show the settings menu.
[HOLD] button| Turns the arpeggio hold on/off.
11.| [D-Motion] button| Turns the D-Motion function on, which controls the tones according to the angle at which this unit is tilted. - When using this function, firmly grip both sides of this unit and be careful that the connected cables are not _ excessively bent.

13. | USB Type-C® port | Use a commercially available USB Type-C cable to |
connect this port to your computer. It can be used to transfer USB MIDI and
USB audio data.
You must install the USB driver when connecting the SH-4d to your computer.

14.| MIDI connectors| Transmit or receive MIDI messages to or from an external
MIDI device connected here.
15.| EXT CLK IN jack| This jack accepts external clock signals for controlling
this unit’s sequencer.
16.| MIX IN jack| This is the audio input jack. Sound from the connected
device is output from the PHONES jack and OUTPUT jack.
17.| QOUTPUT jack| Connect this jack to your amp or monitor speakers.
18.| PHONES jack| Connect headphones here.
Outputting Sound
- Turn the SH-4d power on.

Before turning the unit on/off, always be sure to turn the volume down. Even with the volume turned down, you might hear some sound when switching the unit on/off. However, this is normal and does not indicate a malfunction. 2. Press the [PATTERN] button.
The pattern number appears on the display.-
Press the [1]–[16] buttons.
Select a pattern. -
Press the [START] button.
This plays back the pattern. Press the [START] button again to stop the pattern.
