Honeywell 50100 Series Portable True HEPA Air Purifier
IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
READ AND SAVE THESE SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THIS AIR PURIFIER
When using electrical appliances, basic precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury to persons, including the following:
- Read all instructions before operating the air purifier.
- Place air purifier where it is not easily knocked over by persons in the household.
- Always turn the air purifier to the OFF position and unplug it from the wall outlet when not in use.
- To disconnect the air purifier, first turn the control to the OFF position, grip the plug and pull it from the wall outlet. Never pull by the cord.
- Do not use any product with a damaged cord or plug or if the product malfunctions, is dropped or is damaged in any manner. Keep the cord away from heated surfaces.
- Do not use air purifiers outdoors.
- Never use air purifier unless it is fully assembled.
- Do not run power cord under carpets, and do not cover with throw rugs. Arrange cord such that it will not be tripped over.
- Do not use air purifier where combustible gases or vapors are present.
- Do not expose the air purifier to rain, or use near water, in a bathroom, laundry area or other damp location.
- The air purifier must be used in its upright position.
- Do not allow foreign objects to enter ventilation or exhaust opening as this may cause electric shock or damage to the air purifier. Do not block air outlets or intakes.
- Locate air purifier near the outlet and avoid using an extension cord.
- This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of shock, this plug is intended to fit only one way in a polarized outlet. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. DO NOT attempt to defeat this safety feature.
- A loose fit between the AC outlet (receptacle) and plug may cause overheating and a distortion of the plug. Contact a qualified electrician to replace loose or worn outlet.
- Do not sit, stand or place heavy objects on the air purifier.
- Disconnect power supply before servicing.
WARNING:
To Reduce The Risk of Fire or Electric Shock, Do Not Use This Air Purifier
With Any Solid-State Speed Control Device.
For Best Performance
We recommend that you operate your Honeywell air purifier 24 hours a day
because indoor air can be quickly contaminated by activity in a room,
infiltration of outside air, and from other sources of contamination. While
all the air in a room will not be processed by the air purifier, the more air
circulated through the filter, the more filtered air is returned to the room.
Portable air purifiers will be much more effective in rooms where all doors
and windows are closed.
Germ Reduction
True 99.97% HEPA Air Purifier with Germ Reduction
This air purifier model continually helps clean the air and helps reduce
airborne bacteria, germs and mold spores by drawing air through the HEPA
filter which traps and collects these particulates. In a test lab, the air
purifiers were tested for reducing airborne pathogens that passed through the
filter, and results indicated a bacterial reduction up to 100% with a mean
reduction of 99.3%.
Construction
Your Honeywell air purifier has five basic components: the powerhead assembly (with controls and motor), the carbon pre-filter, the HEPA filter, the base assembly, and the locking mechanism.
Set-up
- Select a firm, level and flat location. For proper airflow, locate the unit at least 3 feet (1 meter) from any wall or furniture.
- Due to the large volume of air drawn towards the air purifier, surrounding areas should be cleaned and/or vacuumed frequently to prevent dust buildup. If the unit is placed on light-colored carpeting, a small mat or rug should be used to ease cleaning and prevent any permanent staining of the carpeting. This is particularly important in homes with heavier contamination from smoking or fireplaces.
- Locate the pre-filter in the box and install it before the initial operation. Refer to the “Removing/Changing the Filters” section for proper installation.
Operation
-
LOCATE PRE-FILTER IN THE BOX AND INSTALL BEFORE INITIAL OPERATION. Refer to “Removing/Changing the Filters” section for proper installation.
-
Ensure the air purifier is plugged into a working electrical
outlet and the Power Knob is turned to the OFF position. -
Allow the unit to operate for a few seconds at turbo speed, then leave the control knob in the turbo position for faster, more powerful room cleaning, or move the knob to the sleep setting for quieter operation.
It is recommended you run your air purifier 24 hours a day to ensure continuous cleaning. Portable air purifiers are more effective in rooms where all doors and windows are closed.
Filter Maintenance Calendar Model 50100 Series
The air purifier model 50100 series is equipped with a Filter Maintenance Calendar wheel which serves as a convenient reminder for you to check and replace the pre-filter and clean the HEPA filter based on the air purifier’s hours of use.
Upon starting your air purifier and upon every pre-filter replacement, roll the pre-filter change calendar ahead three months to indicate when the next filter replacement is necessary. Upon starting your air purifier and upon every HEPA filter cleaning, roll the HEPA filter calendar ahead 6 to 9 months (depending upon use) to indicate when cleaning the HEPA filter is necessary.
Intelli-Check™ Filter Indicator:
Models 50150, 50200, 50250, and 50300 Series
The Intelli-Check™ Filter Indicators serve as a convenient guideline for when to clean the LifeTime HEPA™ Permanent Filter and when to replace the carbon pre-filter. Depending upon your individual usage (environment and hours used), you may need to clean/replace the filters more or less frequently.
When the HEPA Filter Indicator Light turns on, it’s time to clean your HEPA filter. The Intelli-Check™ reminder for when to clean the HEPA filter is intended as a guideline only as the performance of the filter media is dependent on the concentration of the contaminants to which the system is exposed. If there are sources of large amounts of contaminant generation (such as dust from woodworking or heavy smoking) the HEPA filter in your air purifier may need to be cleaned more often. For instructions on how to clean your HEPA filter, refer to the section “Cleaning the LifeTime HEPA™ Permanent Filter” in this manual.
Intelli-Check™ Filter Indicator
Models 50150, 50200, 50250, and 50300 Series (continued)
When your Pre-filter Indicator Light turns on, it’s time to replace your pre- filter. It should be replaced at least every 3 months. If there are heavy concentrations of odors, smoke, or large particles in the home, you may need to change the carbon pre-filter more often. For instructions on how to replace your pre-filter, refer to the section “Removing/Changing the Filters” in this manual.
Note: We do not recommend operating the air purifier without the carbon pre-filter.
Reset Filter Indicator/Turn Light Off
Models 50150, 50200, 50250, and 50300 Series
To Reset Filter Indicator
- Once the filter has been checked and cleaned or replaced as needed, the filter indicator will need to be reset.
- With the unit powered on, press and hold the appropriate filter indicator button down for approximately 10 seconds until the light turns off (Fig. 1).
Removing/Changing the Filters
CAUTION:
DISCONNECT FROM POWER SUPPLY BEFORE SERVICING
Do not attempt to wash either the carbon pre-filter or the HEPA filter. They are not washable and washing will damage the filters. The only two parts requiring any service are the carbon pre-filter and the HEPA filter. No tools are needed. To remove or change either filter, disassemble the unit as shown below:
- Step 1: Turn the air purifier off and unplug from the wall outlet.
- Step 2: To open, gently place the air purifier on its side and unscrew the locking mechanism located on the bottom of the unit (Fig. 2).
- Step 3: Remove the base assembly from the air purifier.
- Step 4: Remove the filter assembly (consisting of the HEPA filter and pre-filter) from the internal chamber.
- Step 5: Locate the seam of the pre-filter and carefully separate the fastener to remove the pre-filter from the HEPA filter (Fig. 3).
- Step 6: Discard used pre-filter if necessary. Clean the HEPA filter if necessary.
- Step 7: Carefully wrap the pre-filter around the HEPA filter so that the ends meet (Fig. 4). Fasten the ends together with the fastener provided.
- Step 8: Place the whole filter assembly into the internal chamber. Close the product by replacing the base and tightening the locking mechanism.
- Step 9: Turn the air purifier into an upright position, plug into a wall outlet and it is ready for operation.
Cleaning the Lifetime HEPA Permanent Filter
The LifeTime HEPA™ Filter is vacuum-able and should be cleaned regularly for optimum performance.
To Clean the HEPA Filter:
-
DO NOT USE WATER OR OTHER LIQUIDS TO CLEAN THE HEPA FILTER.
-
Turn the air purifier OFF and unplug it from the wall outlet.
-
After removing the filter assembly from the air purifier (refer to the section “Removing/Changing the Filters” in this manual), separate and remove the carbon pre-filter from the HEPA filter and place it aside (or discard if the pre-filter needs replacement).
-
To vacuum-clean the filter, hold the filter and run a vacuum cleaner with a nozzle or brush attachment along the filter to pick up the dirt and particles (Fig.5). Repeat along the entire surface of the HEPA filter.
-
Do not penetrate the HEPA paper pleats with the vacuum attachment since tearing or puncturing can occur.
-
Note that the filter may still be discolored even after cleaning it. This is acceptable and will not affect performance. Also, do not be concerned if you still see particles attached to the HEPA filter. The filter performance is still optimal.
-
After vacuuming the filter, wrap the pre-filter around the HEPA filter and place the whole assembly back into the internal chamber of the air purifier (see
“Removing/Changing the Filters”). -
You now need to reset the Intelli-Check™ Filter Indicator. With the air purifier powered on, press and hold the appropriate filter indicator button for approximately 10 seconds until the light turns off (see Fig. 1).

Cleaning and Storage
We recommend that you clean the air purifier at least once a month and before extended storage. Use only a dry cloth to wipe the external surfaces of the air purifier. DO NOT USE WATER, WAX POLISH, OR ANY CHEMICAL SOLUTION.
If you store your Air Purifier for more than 30 days, we recommend:
- Removing both the primary HEPA filter and the carbon pre-filter from the unit.
- Discarding the pre-filter.
- Wrapping the HEPA filter in an air-tight plastic bag or plastic wrap. Be sure that the filter is totally sealed.
- To restore the air purifier to service, unwrap the HEPA filter, install a new carbon pre-filter, and reinstall both filters in the air purifier. See the “Removing/Changing the Filters” section for proper installation.
Frequently Asked Questions

How long should I run my Air Purifier?
For best results, you should operate your Air Purifier 24 hours a day. This
unit will be more effective when doors and windows are closed.
Can I wash the filters?
No. Washing the filters will destroy them.
