VIDEO DIGITIZER FOR IBM-COMPATIBLE PC
This is a real-time video digitizer card intended to use with IBM( compatible personal computers (PC) with VGA or higher display. The card can be plugged into any expansion slot within the computer. The digitizer converts video signals supplied by a TV set, a camcorder, a video recorder, or a video camera into a digital data that can be processed by the PC.
The card can capture frames from live Composite video signal with 256 gray levels and 24 bit full color pictures from still RGB signals. The card digitizes both odd and even fields of the incoming signal and the interlacing is made by the program. The output file format is TIFF (Tagged Image File Format). The output files can be processed further by almost any graphics program that runs under MS-DOS or Windows.
High quality pictures are achieved by using rather high (10 MHz) sampling rate and using a phase locked loop to synchronizes the sampling frequency to the line frequency of the incoming video signal. Direct line synchronization is also possible and must be used if the line frequency of the incoming signal is not stable (for instance the video signal is played back from the VCR). To eliminate interference patterns caused by the 4.43 MHz color subcarrier the card contains circuitry to filter out the color subcarrier from video signal.

IMPORTANT REMARK: The quality of the digitized pictures is only optimal in a graphic program like the supplied share-ware program PSP , with this program, picture ratio can also be optimized since this is a 512×512 digitizer and most of the pictures have a ratio of 3 high and 4 wide. To display color pictures than a graphic program is a must since the digitizerprograms display the Red Green and Blue colors in black and white.
TIP The quality of the picture is depending of the number of pixels the usd camera can produce, a SVHS or HI 8 camera gives a better result than a normal VHS or 8mm camera. When purchasing a camera, please check the number of pixels the camera can reproduce (number of CCD pixels).
