Introduction

WARNING : To minimise the risk of injury from improper and unsafe use of these crutches, read these instructions and safety precautions before using.

Users with visual, reading or cognitive disabilities should seek advice from a professional care provider for an appropriate format. If this is not viable, users should contact their provider or Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare Ltd.

Intended Purpose:
A walking aid to assist those who have reduced mobility.

Safety Precautions:

  • Consult a healthcare professional before using any assisted mobility device.
  • Not intended for use on ice or other slippery surfaces as it has the potential to slip.
  • Ensure the push buttons have securely locked the crutch sections in position.
  • If the handle or tip becomes loose, or if the crutches become damaged, stop using the crutches immediately.

Intended Users
Any mobility restricted user who is up to 160kg in weight.

Indications
To assist a user who has a mobility based injury, physical disability or medical condition.

Contra-Indications

  • User exceeds maximum patient weight
  • User unable to weight bear
  • User has weak grip

Other contraindications may be relevant which are specific to the individual and/or environment of use. Any serious incident that has occurred in relation to the device should be reported to the manufacturer and the MHRA or competent authority of your Member State.

Height adjustment

The height of the crutch handgrip and cuff should be adjusted to suit each user for safety and comfort. To adjust the handgrip height, use the push button on the leg section of the crutch. To adjust the cuff height, use the push button on the cuff section.

To adjust the section height:

  1. Push in the buttons (as shown in the diagram).
  2. Extend or retract the section to the required height.
  3. When this height is reached, release the button but carry on adjusting the section until the buttons lock in position.

Using the crutches

Drive DeVilbiss recommend that a healthcare professional is consulted prior to the use of these crutches to ensure of their suitability and for correct usage.

Walking with the crutches

If the affected leg cannot bear weight

  1. If you cannot put any weight on or stand on the affected leg, bend your knee slightly to keep the affected leg off the ground.
  2. Move the crutches one step forward, ensuring that they are level and slightly apart. Allow the crutches to take some of your body weight.
  3. Then move your body forwards between the crutches, swinging the affected leg through.

If the affected leg can bear some weight

  1. Move the crutches one step forward, ensuring that they are level and slightly apart. Allow the crutches to take some of your body weight.
  2. Step through with the unaffected leg whilst diverting most of your body weight through the crutches and unaffected leg.

Care and maintenance

The crutches should be regularly inspected for signs of damage or wear and tear. Check for:

  • Damage to tubing, including any bends or cracks at the tube joints.
  • Worn or loose push buttons or elongated holes.
  • Loose or worn handgrips
  • Smooth, worn or split tips.

Clean the crutches occasionally using water and a mild detergent.

Replacement tips are available from Drive DeVilbiss. The product codes for the tips used are listed below.

Recycling and disposal
At the end of its useful life the aluminium and plastic components are to be separated and disposed of following the local recycling policy as these can be recovered and recycled.

Warranty details

Your Drive DeVilbiss branded product is warranted to be free of defects in materials and workmanship for one year from date of purchase. This device was built to exacting standards and carefully inspected prior to shipment. This warranty is an expression of our confidence in the materials and workmanship of our products and our assurance to the customer. In the event of a defect covered by this warranty, we will at our option supply parts or replace the device. This warranty does not cover device failure due to owner misuse or negligence, or normal wear and tear. The warranty does not extend to non- durable components, such as rubber accessories and grips, which are subject to normal wear and need periodic replacement. If you have any queries or require full warranty conditions, please contact your Drive DeVilbiss stockist. This does not affect your statutory rights.
