Complete Typical Installation
For safety and compliance reasons, we recommend that you follow American Boat
and Yacht Council (ABYC) standards when rigging your circuit breaker. Altering
boat wiring should be completed by a qualified marine technician. The
following specifications are for general guidelines only. When mounting the
Circuit Breaker, please give consideration to the following:
a. Review and follow all of the information in the Battery and Wiring Diagram
section of the trolling motor Owner’s Manual.
b. The diameter of the two mounting holes is 0.26 inches or 6.6cm. Select
mounting hardware appropriate for the mounting holes and the mounting
location.
c. The minimum surface to mount the Circuit Breaker measures 2.91 inches by
1.9 inches.
d. Make sure the mounting surface is level and clear to drill holes.
e. Ensure there is enough cabling to reach the battery, trolling motor, or the
intended connections in the electrical system. Please follow the “Conductor
Gauge and Circuit Breaker Sizing Table” in the trolling motor Owner’s Manual
if additional cabling needs to be added. Make sure to use the proper gauge
wire.
f. Do not mount below the waterline of the boat or directly adjacent to fuel
tanks.
g. Connecting the breaker in the correct direction is important. The breaker
will have higher life when wired with the correct polarity.
- BAT/LINE: Must be connected to the Battery Positive (+) of your battery or power source.
- AUX/LOAD: Must be connected to the positive (+) side of your electrical system or trolling motor.
- Battery negative (-) should be tied to the negative (-) side of your electrical system or trolling motor.
DANGER
Damaged cords and plugs can cause electric shock or electrocution.
CAUTION
Before making any connections to batteries in a confined space (such as a
battery compartment of a boat), open the door or hatch of the compartment and
allow it to air out for 15 minutes. This allows any gases that have
accumulated in the compartment to escape.
INSTALLATION
Installing the Circuit Breaker
-
ITEM(S) NEEDED a. Review the mounting considerations at the beginning of the installation and select a mounting location. Take the Circuit Breaker (Item #2) and place it at the selected mounting location.
b. Position the Circuit Breaker on the Mounting Location. Take an Awl or similar marking tool and mark the location of the two mounting holes. -
c. Double-check the placement and marked location. Set the Circuit Breaker aside, then use a Drill with a Drill Bit appropriate for the selected mounting screws to drill the two mounting holes on the marked location. Apply a marine-grade silicone sealant in each of the drilled holes if desired to create a waterproof seal.
d. Align the Circuit Breaker with the holes drilled in the Mounting Location. Take the two screws and place one each in the hole of the Circuit Breaker and into the drilled holes. Secure the screws with a Screwdriver. Hand tighten.
Connecting the Circuit Breaker
- a. Review the mounting considerations at the beginning of the installation. Complete the “Installing the Circuit Breaker” section of these instructions before making any electrical connections. The breaker should be manually opened by pushing the button. The breaker will not conduct electricity when the reset lever is in the out position.
b. Connect the Trolling Motor Battery Positive (+) red Power Cable to the stud on the Circuit Breaker labeled AUX LOAD.![MINN KOTA MKR 27 60A Circuit Breaker

- c. Connect the BAT LINE on the Circuit Breaker to the Battery Positive (+).
d. When connecting the Circuit Breaker in a multi battery system, always place the Circuit Breaker between the Battery Positive (+) and the red Trolling Motor Battery Positive (+).
e. It is recommended that the breaker nuts be torqued to 50 in-lb (5.6N-M)
f. Before use, ensure that the lever is pushed in and not readily visible. When the lever is pushed in, the breaker is actively conducting electricity.
- c. Connect the BAT LINE on the Circuit Breaker to the Battery Positive (+).
