Dive into the underwater world of marine biology as you collect your treasure
by learning and discovering about the amazing world of sea creatures!
Underwater Missions combines strategy and marine biology education in an
active learning experience, featuring your little marine biologist’s favourite
characters.
Objective
Players will go from start to finish trying to find their assigned treasure by using Oxygen coins to move through the underwater maze on the board. Discover underwater sea creatures by learning facts throughout the journey.
SET IT UP
Number of players Up to 4 players.
Set it up
-
Open the box, take out the game board and put it in the centre of play. Take a careful look at the board, and make sure you can identify each sea creature!
Remove all components from the box, and lay them next to the game board. -
Take everything out the box and lay it next to the board.
-
Assemble the pawns, have players select their Diver, and place them at the Start position (1,2,3,4).
-
Place all the Sea Creature Cards facing down and place them next to the board.
-
Sort out Oxygen & Algae Coins into groups and place next to the board.
-
Each player gets a Fish Tank Collection Board.
Getting Ready
- Before the game starts, each player needs to randomly draw a Treasure Tile and reveal it to all players. Once all players have identified their treasure, tiles are once again faced down, reshuffled and placed on the board at the bottom section on the Flag icons.
- Each player receives 3 Oxygen Tiles to begin the game.
Who goes first?
The youngest player will get to move first using their Oxygen Tiles. Player to
the right will continue.
HOW TO PLAY
On your turn
- Move the diver pawn by the number of Oxygen Coins you wish to exchange. Each step on the board equals 1 Oxygen Coin (for example if you wish to exchange one Oxygen Coin, you can move only one step on the board). You can move in any direction you wish but you cannot go through the green coral walls unless you have an Algae Coin.
- On each landed space, the player to your right picks the Sea Creature Card and reads ONLY THE FIRST FACT about the sea creature. The player’s challenge is to guess the right sea creature that the card is referring to according to the facts. Answer will be displayed on the card.
- If guessed correctly, the player earns the Sea Creature Card and places it on their Fish Tank and collects the corresponding Oxygen or Algae Coin illustrated below the card. The player continues to move forward using their Oxygen Tiles on their next turn. If an Algae Coin is earned, it can be used as a shortcut through the green coral walls.
- If not guessed correctly, the player stays in the same spot and waits for their next turn to guess the sea creature with a second fact. This cycle may continue up to a THIRD FACT when the sea creature must be identified. If not identified by the THIRD FACT, the player is allowed to move one space in any direction, to begin the process again on their next turn. They do not need to exchange any Oxygen Coins at this time to move across from one square to the next.
- The next players repeat the same steps as the first player in turn.
- Players aim to move through the board to reach their assigned treasure by guessing their Sea Creatures correctly. This is where the strategy kicks in. If a player finds another player’s treasure and answers correctly, they earn the right to continue moving, but do not take away the treasure from the opposite player!
HOW TO WIN
The game finishes when the first player finds their Treasure Tile!
TIPS FOR PLAYING
- Make sure you know each sea creature on the board!
- With younger marine biologists, feel free to share more than 1 fact on the card, or additional clues of your choosing!
- Revisit the game every few weeks to test your underwater knowledge!
