  • It is the responsibility of the operator to understand the support structure, make sure that applicable anchor points are selected and select correct configuration of the product for the selected anchor point.

  • Do not use the product for fall arrest systems. The potential fall distance must never be more than 500 mm.

  • If it is necessary, make sure that there is a back-up system, such as a fall arrest system.

  • Keep the anchor point vertically above the operator. Pendulum swings can occur. Always be prepared for the consequences of pendulum swings.

  • Do not put the product across sharp edges.
To prevent damage to the product and other components of the work positioning system, obey these instructions:

  • Keep all components away from surfaces that can damage the components

    • Put applicable and sufficient protection between the components and the surface that can damage the components.
  • Do rappelling operations slowly to prevent high temperatures in the product.

  • Sunlight and chemicals can damage the product and cause it to lose its strength. Keep the product away from UV radiation.

  • Prevent rope slack between the anchor point and the operator. Always keep the work positioning system in tension.

  • If the product is subject to a fall, take it out of service immediately. Refer to To take the product out of service on page 13.

Operation

Introduction

WARNING : Read and understand the safety chapter before you use the product.
To operate the product as an anchor device
The product complies with EN 795B, the standard for anchor devices. It can be used in 2 different configurations:

  • Single strand, using the Husqvarna Prusik Loop 7 mm T with equalizing thimble
  • Double strand, using the DMM PINTO pulley
WARNING : The product does not choke the support structure. Obey the instructions to prevent accidental down movement of the product.

To do a single-strand configuration

  • A harness that complies with EN 813 is necessary for this configuration.
    • Loop the product around a support structure, such as a branch.
    • If the support structure is smooth, loop the product an additional turn around the support structure. This decreases the risk of down movement of the product along the support structure
  • Connect the DDM Shadow Locksafe carabiner (A) to the equalizing thimble (B) of the Prusik Loop 7 mm T. (Fig. 4)
    • Make sure that the lock mechanism of the DDM Shadow Locksafe carabiner (A) points away from the support structure and the other components of the product.
    • Make sure that the equalizing thimble (B) is not against an object or an edge that can cause it to bend.
    • Connect the DDM Ultra O Locksafe carabiner (C) to the ventral attachment point of the harness (D) according to EN 813.
    • Adjust the length of the product with the Prusik Eyen- Eye 8 mm friction hitch (E).
    • After the operation, remove the product, clean it and put it into storage. Refer to To clean the product on page 12 and Transportation and storage on page 13.

To do a double strand configuration
A harness that complies with EN 813 is necessary for this configuration.

  1. Loop the product around a support structure, such as a branch.
  2. Connect the DDM Shadow Locksafe carabiner (A) to the becket of the DMM PINTO pulley (B). (Fig. 5)
  3. Make sure that the lock mechanism of the DDM Shadow Locksafe carabiner (A) points away from the other components of the product.
  4. Connect the DDM Ultra O Locksafe carabiner (C) to the ventral attachment point of the harness (D) according to EN 813.
  5. Adjust the length of the product with the Prusik Eyen- Eye 8 mm friction hitch (E).
  6. After the operation, remove the product, clean it and put it into storage. Refer to To clean the product on page 12 and Transportation and storage on page 13.

To operate the product as a lanyard for harness
The product complies with EN 358, standard for harness and lanyard for harness.

  1. Select an anchor point at waist level.
  2. Connect the carabiners of the product to the attachment rings on each side of the harness.
  3. If the harness has forward attachment points (A), you can as an alternative connect the carabiners (B) to these attachment points. (Fig. 6)
  4. Adjust the length of the product with the Prusik EyenEye 8 mm friction hitch (C).
  5. Make sure that the free movement is not more than 0.6 m.
  6. Make sure that the Work Positioning Lanyard is as short as possible and that there is no slack.
Note : The product is delivererd with the Prusik Eye-n-Eye 8 mm friction hitch in a 5-coil Distel knot. The Prusik Eye-n-Eye 8 mm friction hitch can also be used in a Valdotain Tresse knot. Refer to To tie a Valdotain Tresse knot on page 12 and To tie a 5-coil Distel knot on page 13 for instructions how to tie the knots correctly.

To ensure safe function of the Prusik

Eye-n-Eye 8 mm friction hitch Some conditions or environments can decrease the friction between the friction hitch and the Work Positioning Lanyard 11.5 mm Eye-n-Eye. These are examples of such conditions: Ice, mud, rain, cold, snow, tree exudates and defective ropes. If the friction is not sufficient to hold the rope, the length of the product configuration will increase until the friction hitch stops against the end connection.

  • Do necessary maintenance of the Work Positioning Lanyard.
  • Make sure that all components of the product are dry, clean and not damaged.
  • Select a location in the tree where there is a minimum risk of leaves, twigs or other objects getting caught in the friction hitch. This is valid also for other support structures than a tree.
  • Make sure that objects do not touch the top of the friction hitch.
  • Only let the manufacturer do modifications to the product.
  • If the friction hitch is replaced, make sure that it is tied in an approved knot. Refer to To tie a Valdotain Tresse knot on page 12 and To tie a 5-coil Distel knot on page 13.

To secure the Prusik Loop 7 mm T when it is not used
When the product is used as a double strand anchor device and as a lanyard for harness, the Prusik Loop 7 mm T with equalizing thimble is not used.

  • To make sure that the Prusik Loop 7 mm T does not prevent safe operation, connect the equalizing thimble to the DDM Shadow Locksafe carabiner. (Fig. 7)
