Installation
All Eclipse models are fitted with 3m of supply cable and a 3-pin plug. For
permenent connection it is unnecessary to open the terminal wiring enclosure,
in order to carry
out installation of this product.
CAUTION: Please observe the minimum safe distance between the heater body
and any inflammable surfaces.
CAUTION: Do not mount the heater on plastic soffits and fascia boards and
ensure the mounting surface will suitably withstand the radiant heat from the
heater body.
CAUTION: All installations must be in accordance with the latest
electrical safety regulations. If in any doubt, please consult a suitably
qualified electrician.
NOTE: When hard wiring, a large double pole switch with a 3.0mm contact
disconnection should be fitted.
NOTE: When installing the heater indoors it should be connected to a
suitable thermostat device.
NOTE: We recommend using a RCD where applicable.
4.1 Mounting
CAUTION
Always isolate the heater from the mains supply when mounting or adjusting the
heater position.
4.1.1 Wall mounting
The Eclipse heater should be wall mounted in a horizontal manner only – see
Fig. A.
- Do not position the heater at an angle more than 70° and less than 45° from the mounting surface as shown in Fig. A.
- Always allow the heater to cool before attempting to reposition/move. Never attempt to move the heater while it is switched on!
- Observe the minimum safe distance between the heater body and inflammable surfaces and objects when mounting.
- Do not install the heater in a corner.
- Securely fasten the Eclipse brackets to the mounting surface using the fixing holes in the brackets. See Fig.s B, C and D for mounting hole centres of the brackets. Please refer to Table 1 for recommended positioning of the heater.
- Fix in the required angular position by tightening the fixing bolts on the brackets at the rear of the heater.
- Arrange the mains supply cord so it cannot be tripped over or damaged and ensure it is not resting on the heater body or mounting brackets. Also ensure it is away from the front of the heater.
Always isolate the heater from the mains supply when adjusting the angular
position.

4.2 Chain suspension
Eclipse heaters can be chain hung from a ceiling.
- When ceiling hanging the Eclipse heater, ensure the minimum distance from the ceiling is adhered to as shown in Fig. E. and maintain the minimum distance to the floor. • Please refer to Table 1 for the recommended positioning of the heater with regards to minimu distances.
- Do not install the heater in a corner!
- Always allow the heater to cool before attempting to reposition/move. Never attempt to move the heater while it is switched on!
- Observe the minimum safe distance between the heater body and inflammable surfaces and objects when mounting.
- Keep out of the reach of children.
-
Please refer to Table 1 for recommended positioning of the heater. When hanging from a ceiling, two chains of equal length and gauge are required and should be used
with fixings that are adequate to hold the weight of the heater. If in doubt contact a professional for advice! -
Attach the heater assembly to the chains via the hole in the centre of the middle bracket (remove the L -shaped wall brackets) as shown in Fig. E. and ensure the heater faces directly down when hanging.
-
Arrange the mains supply cord so it cannot be tripped over or damaged and ensure it is not resting on the heater body or mounting brackets. Also ensure it is away from
the front of the heater.
Always isolate the heater from the mains supply when adjusting the position.
Maintenance
CAUTION
Disconnect the heater from the mains electric power supply before any attempts
are made to replace the ceramic emitter. Contact your distributor for the
correct replacement ceramic emitter quoting model type and rating from the
rating label. It is important that you read through the ceramic emitter
replacement procedure before commencing.
-
Disconnect the mains electric power supply to the heater and ensure the heater and ceramic emitters are cool.
-
Remove the 4 × Phillips head screws from the flat end plate (opposite end to the permanently connected mains cord), see Fig. F.
-
Slide the front trim piece out of the body noting which channel it is contained within (for refitting). See Fig. G.
-
Slide the guard out of the body noting it is contained within the same channel as the front trim piece. See Fig. H.
-
If multiple ceramic emitters have to be replaced, continue to slide the front trim pieces and guards out of the body until all ceramic emitters are accessible noting the order in which the trims and guards go. See Fig. J.
-
Locate the 2 × Phillips screws either side of the ceramic emitter and remove (ideally with a magnetic tipped screwdriver which will also aid refitting) and take care to retain the spring/split washers. See Fig. K.
-
Pull the reflector holding the ceramic emitter down to expose the wiring (Fig. L). The ceramic emitter can be disconnected by first pulling the sleeving back to reveal the in-line connectors as shown in Fig. M.
-
Carefully pull the in-line connectors apart to remove the ceramic emitter as shown in Fig. N. Note, when refitting, the connectors must be fully pushed together and you should feel a dull click and the sleeving should also be replaced back over the connectors. Also take note of the emitter wire colours and match.
-
Working on a flat surface, slide the ceramic emitter holding U-clip away from the ceramic emitter raised wiring boss as shown in Fig. P. Note. the sleeving can be removed at this point before proceeding. Remove the spring clip (note it’s orientation as shown in Fig Q) from the reflector and lift the reflector off the ceramic emitter as shown in Fig. R.
-
Refit in reverse order and repeat for any other ceramic emitters that need to be replaced.
5.2 Heater failure
In the event of heater failure, or for spare parts or advice, please contact
the manufacturer or your service agent.
- Disconnect from the mains by removing the plug from the main sockets before commencing any maintenance procedure including cleaning.
- To ensure optimum heat effectiveness, it is recommended that that the guards are removed and the reflectors are wiped with a lint-free cloth should the reflectors show considerable signs of dust or dirt.
