1 Safety

Observe the following safety instructions.

1.1 General information
  • Read this instruction manual carefully.
  • Please note the additional instructions when using supplied or optionally available accessories.
  • Keep the instruction manual and the product information safe for future reference or for the next owner.
  • Do not connect the appliance if it has been damaged in transit.
1.2 Intended use

Only use this appliance:

  • With genuine parts and accessories.
  • For additional applications described in the instructions for accessories that are optional or come with the appliance.
  • For mixing, kneading and beating food.
  • Under supervision.
  • In private households and in enclosed spaces in a domestic environment at room temperature.
  • for normal processing quantities and for normal processing times for domestic use.
  • Up to an altitude of max. 2000 m above sea level. Disconnect the appliance from the power supply when:
  • are not using the appliance.
  • the appliance is unattended.
  • assembling the appliance.
  • taking the appliance apart.
  • cleaning the appliance.
  • approaching rotating parts.

1.3 Restriction on user group

This appliance can be used by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or a lack of experience and/or knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and if they understand the hazards involved. Do not let children play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance must not be performed by children. The appliance must not be used by children. Keep children away from the appliance and power cable.

1.4 Safety instructions

Observe the safety instructions.

If the appliance or the power cord is damaged, this is dangerous.

▶ Never operate a damaged appliance.
▶ Never operate an appliance with a cracked or fractured surface.
▶ Never pull on the power cord to unplug the appliance. Always unplug the appliance at the mains.
▶ If the appliance or the power cord is damaged, immediately unplug the power cord or switch off the fuse in the fuse box.

Incorrect installation is dangerous.
▶ Connect and operate the appliance only in accordance with the specifications on the rating plate.
▶ Connect the appliance to a power supply with alternating current only via a properly installed socket with earthing.
▶ The protective conductor system of the domestic electrical installation must be properly installed.
Incorrect repairs are dangerous.
▶ Repairs to the appliance should only be carried out by trained specialist staff.
▶ Only use genuine spare parts when repairing the appliance.
▶ If the power cord of this appliance is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, the manufacturer’s Customer Service or a similarly qualified person in order to prevent any risk. An ingress of moisture can cause an electric shock.

2 Avoiding material damage

ATTENTION! Improper use may cause material damage.

▶ Never use different drives at the same time.
▶ Observe the colour coding marked on the accessories and drive.
▶ Never operate the appliance longer than necessary.
▶ Do not operate the appliance at no-load.
▶ Never use genuine parts and accessories for other appliances.
▶ Observe the maximum processing quantities.
▶ Do not use the bowl to store objects which do not belong to it.
During operation warm exhaust air escapes from the vent grille at the rear. If this is blocked, it may cause the appliance to overheat.
▶ Set up the appliance at a sufficient distance from walls, easily damaged surfaces and other appliances.
Vibrations may impair functioning of the appliance.
▶ Do not place the appliance on moving or vibrating surfaces.

3 Environmental protection and saving energy

3.1 Disposing of packaging

The packaging materials are environmentally compatible and can be recycled.
▶ Sort the individual components by type and dispose of them separately.

4 Unpacking and checking

Find out here what you need to note when unpacking the appliance.

4.1 Unpacking the appliance and parts
  1. Take the appliance out of the packaging.
  2. Take all other parts and the accompanying documents out of the packaging and place them to hand.
  3. Remove any packaging material.
  4. Remove any stickers or film.
4.2 Contents of package

After unpacking all parts, check for any damage in transit and completeness of the delivery.

4.3 Setting up appliance

⚠ WARNING Risk of fire!

ATTENTION! During operation warm exhaust air escapes from the vent grille at the rear. If this is blocked, it may cause the appliance to overheat. Set up the appliance at a sufficient
distance from walls, easily damaged surfaces and other appliances. Vibrations may impair functioning of the appliance. Do not place the appliance on moving or vibrating surfaces.

  1. Place the appliance on a stable, level, clean and flat work surface.
  2. Pull the power cable out to the required length. “Cable length”, Page 46 Do not insert the mains plug.

5.2 Rotary switch

The rotary switch is used to start and stop processing and select the speed.

Tip: You can adjust the speed sleeplessly between 1 and 7.

5.3 Illuminated ring1

The illuminated ring on the rotary switch informs you about the operating status of your appliance.

5.5 Function buttons

You can use the function buttons to select additional functions or configure settings. To make a selection, touch the relevant symbols with your finger.

Note: Press the buttons with your fingers without wearing rubber/oven gloves. Do not operate buttons with objects, e.g. a wooden spoon.

5.6 Display

The display shows settings, information and values, as well as messages about the operating status. Plugging in the appliance activates the display, which shows “OptiMUM”. The display shows text on 2 lines. Long text scrolls across the display. Note: The display will switch off automatically if the appliance is not operated for a given period of time. To reactivate the display, press a button or start processing.

5.7 Drives

Your appliance is equipped with different drives, which are specially designed for its tools and accessories. Note: Drives 2 and 3 come with protective covers. “Drive cover”, Page 49

Colour coding
The drives are colour-coded. The colour coding is also marked on the accessories to ensure they are matched to the correct drive.

5.8 Tools

You can find out everything you need to know about the different tools here. Tools are equipped with a protective cap to protect the drive from soiling. The two eject buttons on the protective cap make it easier to remove tools. “Removing tools”, Page 47

Use the appropriate tool depending on use.

Fine adjustment of the professional whisk
Use the fine adjustment system to correct the distance between the bowl and the professional beating whisk.

Note: The professional beating whisk is factory-set so that ingredients are mixed together perfectly. Correcting tool adjustment

ATTENTION! The appliance and tools can be damaged if a wrong tool setting is used. Never operate a tool that touches
the bowl.

Requirements

  • The mains plug is not inserted.
  • The swivel arm is open.
  • The professional beating whisk is inserted.
  • The bowl has been inserted.
  1. Hold the beating whisk at the bottom with one hand and release the lock nut clockwise using a spanner wrench. Fig. 4
  2. To change the distance, turn the tool. Fig. 5 Observe the values in the table:
  3. Press the release button and push the swivel arm down until it engages.
  4. Check the setting.
  5. Press the release button and raise the swivel arm until it engages.
  6. Hold the beating whisk at the bot- tom with one hand and tighten the lock nut anticlockwise using a spanner wrench.
5.9 Safety systems

Start lock-out Start lock-out prevents your appliance from being switched on accidentally. The appliance can only be switched on and operated if

  • the swivel arm is engaged in position 1 and the bowl is inserted.
  • the swivel arm is engaged in position 1 and the bevel gear is fitted on the main drive.

Restart lock-out
Restart lock-out prevents your appliance from automatically restarting processing after a power failure.

The appliance is switched on again after a power failure. Processing cannot start again until the rotary switch has been set to .

Overload protection
The overload protection system prevents the motor and other components from being damaged through being overloaded. The motor will switch off if ¡ too large a quantity is processed. ¡ processing is taking too long. ¡ a tool or accessory is blocked.

Swivel arm protection device
The swivel arm protection device prevents the swivel arm from being opened if an accessory is attached to the rear drive.

6 Before firs time using for the first time

Prepare firs time the appliance for use.

6.1 Preparing the appliance
  1. Press the release button and raise the swivel arm until it engages. “Opening swivel arm”, Page 47
  2. Turn the bowl clockwise and remove. “Removing bowl”, Page 47
  3. Clean all parts that come into contact with food before using for the first time. “Cleaning and servicing”, Page 54
  4. Put the cleaned and dried parts out ready for use.

7 Basic operation

7.1 Cable length

Adjust the length of the power cable to your needs.

  1. Pull the power cable out to the required length.
  2. To shorten the cable, push it into the cable storage compartment.

  1. Pull the power cable out to the required length and slowly let go.
  2. To shorten the cable, pull the cable, allow the cable to wind up, pull the cable out again.

Note: Do not push the cable in by hand. If the cable jams, pull right out and let it wind up again.

7.2 Swivel arm positions

7.3 Opening swivel arm

Press the release button and raise the swivel arm until it engages. Fig. 6

7.5 Removing bowl

Turn the bowl clockwise and remove. Fig. 8

7.6 Inserting bowl
  1. Place the bowl in the base unit. Fig. 9 Use the recesses on the base unit.
  2. Turn the bowl anticlockwise until it engages. Fig. 10
7.7 Attaching bowl lid

Requirement: No tool is used here.
Fit the lid onto the main drive until it engages. Fig. 11 The filling shaft must face towards the front.

7.8 Removing bowl lid

Requirement: No tool is used here. Take the cover off the main drive.

7.9 Inserting tools

  2. Press the tool into the main drive until it engages. Fig. 12 The protective cap must cover the main drive completely.
7.10 Removing tools

Press the two eject buttons together and pull the tool completely out of the drive. Fig. 13

Processing

Processing ingredients with tools
⚠ WARNING Risk of injury! Rotating drives, tools or accessory parts may cause injury.

▶ Keep hands, hair, clothing and utensils away from rotating parts.
▶ Only attach and remove tools and accessories once the drive has stopped and you have unplugged the appliance.
▶ Before changing tools or cleaning the appliance, switch off and disconnect it from the mains.
▶ Only use the tools when the bowl is inserted, the lid is fitted and the drive covers are in place.
▶ Never open the swivel arm during processing.

Requirements

  • The bowl has been inserted.
  • The bowl lid is fitted.
  • The required tool is inserted.

  3. Insert mains plug.
  4. Set the rotary switch to the required speed. Fig. 16
  5. Process the ingredients until you achieve the required result.

  7. Unplug the mains plug.

Tips

  • You can change the speed at any time during processing or interrupt processing.
  • Clean all parts immediately after use so that residues do not dry on.

Adding more ingredients

  1. To add ingredients during processing, use the filling shaft in the lid. Fig. 18
  2. To add large quantities, set the rotary switch to . Wait until the appliance stops.
  3. Press the release button and raise the swivel arm until it engages.
  4. Add the ingredients to the bowl.
  5. Press the release button and push the swivel arm down until it engages.
  6. Process the ingredients until you achieve the required result.

Using instantaneous switching

  1. Set the rotary switch to 1 or 1 and hold. Fig. 19
    ✔ The ingredients are processed at maximum speed.

  2. Release the rotary switch. Fig. 20

    ✔ Processing stops.

Tip Instantaneous switching is especially suitable when using the following accessories:

  • Glass blender attachment
  • Multi-chopper set
  • Multi-blender attachment
7.12 Drive cover

Remove the protective cover to use accessories on drive 2 or 3.

Lift the protective cover of drive 2 or 3 by the side lug lift and remove. Fig. 21

Fitting drive cover
Position the protective cover of drive 2 or 3 and press down firmly. Fig. 22

8 Basic settings

You can configure the basic settings for your appliance to meet your needs.

8.1 Overview of basic settings

8.2 Changing basic settings

Requirement: The mains plug is inserted.

  1. If the display is switched off, press any button.

  2. Press and hold and simultaneously.
    ✔ The display shows the configuration menu.

  3. Use to select the required setting.

  4. Use or to change the selected setting.
    ✔ The display shows “SAVING: O & +”.

  5. To save the changed setting, press and hold and simultaneously.
    ✔ The display shows “SETUP” “SAVED”.

  6. To change and save other settings, repeat steps 3-5.

  7. To exit the configuration menu, select one of the following options: Press and hold , or . Start processing.

9 Timer

You can read off the processing time elapsed or preset a time. Tip: You can also monitor times with the timer, e.g. resting times for dough.

9.1 Display values of timer

Observe the following values when using the timer.

9.2 About the timer

To ensure optimum use of the timer, note the following.
Notes

  • If the timer is stopped or switched off during processing, processing will continue.
  • When processing is started with the timer running, the appliance will end processing on expiry of the remaining time.
  • If you interrupt processing for less than 3 minutes, the last values displayed are saved and will resume if processing starts again.

Tips

  • You can adjust the remaining time using or at any time.
  • Values will change faster if or is pressed and held down.
  • You can change the volume of the signal tones at any time. “Overview of basic settings”, Page 49
9.3 Reading off and resetting the processing time

Note Display of the previous processing time will not start

  • if the processing time has been preset.
  • if the Sensor Control Plus function is used.
    1. Set the rotary switch to the required speed.
    ✔ The display shows “TIME” and the previous processing time.
    2. To reset the display to “00:00”, press and hold .
9.4 Processing ingredients with the timer

Requirement: The appliance is prepared and the ingredients have been added. “Processing ingredients with tools”, Page 48

  1. If the display is switched off, press any button.

  2. Press .
    ✔ The display shows “TIMER” and “00:00”.

  3. Use or to set the required duration.

  4. Set the rotary switch to the required speed.
    ✔ The display shows the remaining processing time.
    ✔ Once this time has elapsed, a sig- nal tone sounds and the display shows “END” “TIMER”.
    ✔ The appliance stops processing automatically and the display shows “ROTATE THE SWITCH TO 0”.

  5. Set the rotary switch to .

9.5 Using the timer without processing
  1.  If the display is switched off, press any button.

  2. Press . a The display shows “TIMER” and
    “00:00”.

  3. Use or to set the required duration.

  4. To start the timer, briefly press twice. a The display counts down the remaining time. a Once this time has elapsed, a signal toe sounds and the display shows “END””TIMER”.

9.6 Pausing or switching off the timer

Requirements

  • The timer is running.
  • The display shows the time that has elapsed.
    1. Briefly press twice. a The timer stops. a The remaining time is displayed continuously.
    2. Briefly press twice. a The timer starts again. a The remaining time continues to count down.
    3. To switch the timer off, press and hold down . a The display shows “Optimum”.

10 Scales1

Your appliance is equipped with a set of scales. You can weigh ingredients individually or a preset a weight. The base unit has 4 weight sensors in its feet. The following factors can falsify the measuring result:

  • Feet not standing on the work surface properly
  • Work surface vibrating
  • Objects underneath the base unit
  • Ingredient quantities less than 5 g or 0.01 lb
  • Base unit slipped ¡ Base unit touched
  • Objects on the base unit
10.1 Display values of scales

Observe the following values when using the scales.

10.2 Weighing ingredients

Requirements ¡ The bowl is inserted or an access-
ory is fitted. ¡ The rotary switch is set to . ¡ The display is activated.

  1. Press and do not touch the appliance again. a The scales will be calibrated. a The display shows “- – – – -“.

  2. Wait for calibration to finish. a The display shows “0 g” or
    “0.00 lb”.

  3. Add the required ingredient. a The display shows the weight.

  4. To weigh further ingredients, select
    one of the following options: Add further ingredients and read off the total weight. Repeat the process and weigh
    the ingredients individually.

10.3 Presetting the weight

Requirements ¡ The bowl has been inserted. ¡ The rotary switch is set to .

  1. If the display is switched off, press any button.

  2. Press and do not touch the appliance again. a The scales will be calibrated. a The display shows “- – – – -“.

  3. Wait for calibration to finish. a The display shows “0 g” or
    “0.00 lb”.

  4. Press . a The display shows “100 g” or “0.20 lb”.

  5. Use or to set the required weight.

  6. Add the required ingredient to the bowl. a The display shows the quantity by which the weight is short, e.g. 65 g. a A recurring signal tone will sound from a short weight of 40 g or 0.08 lb.

  7. Continue adding the ingredient little by little. a The lower the weight that is short, the faster the signal tone will sound. a When the preset quantity is reached, the signal tone will stop.

  8. Note: If the preset quantity is exceeded, the signal tone will sound continuously. The display shows the excess weight added as a negative value, e.g. -40 g. Take the excess weight added away again.

  9. To end weighing, press and hold or start processing.

10.4 Resetting scales

If an error message appears or unaccustomed measured values are displayed, reset the scales. 1. Press and hold . a The display shows “OptiMUM” 2. To restart the scales, press .
Note: If the scales still do not work properly, disconnect the appliance from the power supply for a while and then start the scales again.

11 Sensor Control Plus

You can use the Sensor Control Plus Sensor Control Plus function to run different programmes and automatically process food. Sensors monitor processing of the ingredients and end it automatically once the pre-programmed consistency is reached. For optimum results please note the following:

  • Before using the Sensor Control Plus function for the first time, operate the new appliance at no-load for at least 2 minutes or process food without an automatic programme.
  • Only the combinations of food, quantity and tool described are programmed. Do not process other combinations with the automatic programmes.
  • Do not add any more food once an automatic programme has started.
  • Do not process ingredients that have already been processed once again with an automatic programme.
  • The age, temperature and constituents of the ingredients used will affect the time required and the result.
  • Only use fresh eggs.
  • Only use cream that has been cooled to approx. 6 °C.
  • Cream which was previously frozen cannot be whipped.
  • Cream which contains additives or is lactose-free will not offer optimum results.
  • Do not add sugar, flavourings or other additives for cream or beaten egg whites until the automatic programme has ended.

Notes

  • Do not add ingredients until the display shows “0 g”, “0.00 lb” or “ADD INGREDIENTS”.
  • Buttons are locked when an automatic programme is running.
  • To cancel an automatic programme, set the rotary switch to . A slight resistance must be overcome here.

11.2 Using Sensor Control Plus

You can find out here how to select and start an automatic programme.

  1. Insert the appropriate tool: Beating whisk for whipping cream and egg whites Kneading hook for yeast dough
  2. Insert mains plug. a The display shows “Opti MUM”.
  3. Press . a The display shows “CREAM”.
  4. Use , or to select the required programme, e.g. “EGG WHITE”. a The scales will be calibrated. a The display shows “- – – – -“.
  5. Wait for calibration to finish. a The display shows “0 g” or “0.00 lb”.
  6. Add the relevant ingredient to the bowl, e.g. egg whites. a The display shows the weight.
  7. Note: On appliances without any scales, the display shows “ADD INGREDIENTS” after selection of the programme. Add the measured ingredients to the bowl.
  8. Wait a short time after adding them. a The display shows “HOLD ROTARY SWITCH ON M/A 2s”.
  9. Press the release button and push the swivel arm down until it engages.
  10. Set the rotary switch to and hold for at least 2 seconds.
  11. Release the rotary switch.

a The rotary switch stops at . a The display shows “SENSOR CONTROL PLUS” and the automatic programme is running. a When the preprogrammed result has been achieved, the display shows “FINISH”. a The rotary switch jumps to and processing ends. 12.2 Cleaning the base unit

WARNING Risk of electric shock! An ingress of moisture can cause an electric shock. Never immerse the appliance or
the power cord in water or clean in the dishwasher. Do not use steam- or high- pressure cleaners to clean the appliance.

  1. Remove the drive covers.
  2. Wipe the base unit and drive covers with a soft, damp cloth.
  3. Clean the control panel and the display using a damp microfibre cloth.
  4. Dry the base unit and drive covers with a soft cloth.

Tip: When processing food such as carrots, plastic parts may become discoloured. Remove discolouration with a soft cloth and a few drops of cooking oil.

15 Troubleshooting

You can rectify minor faults on your appliance yourself. Read the troubleshooting information before contacting after-sales service. This will avoid unnecessary costs.

16 Disposal

16.1 Disposing of old appliance

Valuable raw materials can be reused by recycling.

  1. Unplug the appliance from the mains.
  2. Cut through the power cord.
  3. Dispose of the appliance in an environmentally friendly manner. Information about current disposal methods are available from your specialist dealer or local authority.

This appliance is labelled in accordance with European Directive 2012/19/EU concerning used electrical and electronic appliances (waste electrical and electronic equipment – WEEE).
