Safety instructions

Target group:
For skilled electricians and suitable qualified, instructed personnel in accordance with national legislation, including the relevant standards and, where applicable, in acc. with IEC/EN 60079-17 on electrical apparatus for explosive atmospheres.

  • The battery pack must not be operated in zone 0 or zone 20 hazardous areas!
  • The technical data indicated on the battery pack is to be observed!
  • Changes or modifications to the battery pack are not permitted!
  • The battery pack is only to be used as intended and in undamaged and correct working order!
  • Only genuine Cooper Crouse-Hinds / EATON parts are to be used!
  • Repairs that affect the protection against explosion, may only be performed by Eaton/Cooper Crouse-Hinds / EATON or a qualified electrician (see relevant national regulations)!

Observe the national health and safety regulations for prevention of accidents that are marked with a ( ) in these operating instructions!

Conformity with standards

The apparatus is conform to the standards specified in the EU-Declaration of conformity, enclosed separately.
References to standards and directives in these operating instructions always relate to the latest version. Other additions (e.g. details relating to the year) shall be observed.

Field of application

The battery pack pluged into the light fitting ExLin NE+ is suitable for use in zone 1, 2 or 21, 22 hazardous areas acc. to IEC/EN 60079-10-1 and IEC/EN 60079-10-2.
The materials used, including any external metal parts, are high quality materials which ensure a corrosion protection and resistance to chemical substances corresponding to the requirements in a “normal industrial atmosphere”:

  • glass-fibre reinforced polyamid
  • Polycarbonate (display)

In case of use in an extremely aggressive atmosphere, you can obtain information concerning the chemical resistance of the materials used from your Cooper Crouse-Hinds (CCH) / EATON branch.

Application / Properties

The battery pack for the ExLin NE+ luminaire supplies it with energy in the event of an emergency via the VE+ supply unit and a qTEK 300-1. driver. Both are built into the ExLin NE+ luminaire ex works.
A LiFePO4 battery is used as the energy storage device.
At low temperatures, the battery pack is heated with a built-in heater. This means that the specified data is guaranteed.
The data as per point 3 and 4 shall be taken into account with the use.
Applications other than those described are not permitted without Cooper Crouse-Hinds / EATON’s prior written consent.
The instructions stated in section 9 of the operating instructions shall be observed during operation.
The user alone is responsible for the appropriate use of the light fitting ExLin in consideration of the basic conditions existing at the plant (see technical data).

Transport / Storage

Transport

The battery pack for the ExLin NE + luminaire may be transported in its original packaging in areas with an explosive ambient atmosphere in zones 1, 2 and 21, 22.
The battery pack in its original packaging is tested for air freight accordance to UN 38.3.

Storage

Observe the storage temperature according to the technical data in these operating instruction.
Dry environment, in a closed room, with a humidity between
40 % and 50 %. The storage location must be clean, dry, level, well ventilated and free from rodents. Safe distance from daily activities that can damage the battery pack for the ExLin NE + luminaire.
Avoid temperature fluctuations.
Otherwise there is the possibility of condensation forming inside the battery pack
It is recommended that equipment in storage be inspected every 2 months to identify any occurrence of corrosion, moisture, or other signs of damage.
Charge the battery pack for the ExLin NE + luminaire no later than 6 months after the production date, then every 6 months at the latest.

Function

The battery pack for the ExLin NE+ is display composed of 2 light emitting diodes ( 2 – E ).
The green LED’s indicate the battery’s charge state and operational.
The red LED signals possible failures. (see also chapter “Technical data”, “Operating and fault display”)

Automatic test function

Function test (FT)
The function test is carried out in the 1.5 hour mode with the increased discharge current or increased luminous flux.
A function test (FT) is carried out automamtically on a weekly basis. Here the emergency light os switched over to battery operation and tested for ca. 5 mins. The test is indicated by the flalshing green LED.

Partial operating time test (TBT)
The partial operating time test is carried out in 1.5 h mode with the increased discharge current or increased luminous flux. A TBT occurs every 3 months. Emergency light operation takes place for approx. 35 minutes.

Assembly / disassembly of the Battery pack

The battery pack may be installed in the ExLin NE+ luminaire in zones 1 and 21 explosive atmospheres.

ATEX – IEC In areas with process-related dirt or dust, have to be to ensure that no dirt or dust gets into the luminaire when the battery pack is installed.
Sealing surfaces must be free of dirt and dust.

Charging

Charging battery for the first time
Install the battery pack in the ExLin NE + luminaire and put the luminaire into operation. The battery pack needs approx. 14 hours to fully charge at constant mains voltage.
If the ambient temperature is below 0 °C, a built-in heater first heats the battery pack in the ExLin NE + luminaire to the optimum temperature for charging.

Charging during operation
The built-in control in the ExLin NE + luminaire continuously monitors the battery pack.
The internal heating ensures that the cells in the battery pack are always in the optimal temperature range.
The deep discharge protection with restart lock monitors the battery voltage in the event of a power failure and prevents deep discharge of the cells.
The battery capacity, which is reduced by self-discharge in normal operation, is controlled and recharged by the microprocessor.

Emergency lighting operation

The duration of the emergency lighting can be set at 1.5 or 3 hours; see operating Instructions ExLin NE+ (30080002309).
The emergency lighting mode is activated automatically by the function
(FT)and partial operating time test (TBT)or a mains failure, or manually by switching off the supply voltage. Here the emergency lighting lamp that is marked green switches over to battery operation.

Taking into operation

Prior taking into operation it is necessary to check the correct function, the correct working order and the installation of the emergency luminaire in compliance with these operating instructions and the operating instructions ExLin NE+ (300 8000 2309) , as well with any other applicable stipulations!

Operation and fault indication

See diagram on “Technical data”, “Operation and fault indication”.

Maintenance

Isolate the equipment from the power supply before opening it! Only use original Cooper Crouse-Hinds / EATON spare parts.
When carrying out maintenance work, servicing and tests on explosion-protected equipment, the applicable regulations, e.g., IEC/EN 60079-17 shall be observed!

When servicing and carrying out repairs, the safety instructions and data contained in the operating instruction
ExLin NE+ (300 8000 2309)are also to be observed.
The required maintenance intervals are set according to their application and should therefore be determined depending on the conditions of use.

  • Enclosure and cover for cracks and damage.
  • Seals for damage.
  • Contacts and Ex-d pin contacts have to be clean and free of corrosion and have not to be bent.

Because of the risk of an electrostatic charge, the light fitting shall only be cleaned with a damp cloth or sponge!
Only use customary household washing-up liquid diluted in water as specified! The water temperature may be max. 50 ºC. After that, rinse with clear water. If during servicing repairs prove to be necessary, section 12 of these operating instructions will have to be observed.

Change battery pack

The battery pack for the lightifitting ExLin NE+ have to be only buildet in and operated into the luminaire:
ExLin 3L-1 NE+ and
ExLin 5L-1 NE+
The battery pack may be installed in the ExLin NE+ luminaire in zones 1 and 21 explosive atmospheres.
ATEX – IEC In areas with process-related dirt or dust, have to be to ensure that no dirt or dust gets into the luminaire when the battery pack is installed.
Sealing surfaces must be free of dirt and dust.
Battery charging starts when the power is switched on.

Repairs / Overhaul / Modification

Repairs that affect the explosion protection, may only be carried out by COOPER CROUSE-HINDS or a qualified electrician (Competent person) in compliance with the applicable national rules (IEC/EN 60079-19).
For replacement and repair only original parts from COOPER CROUSE HINDS-/ EATON may be used.
Modifications to the device or changes of its design are not permitted.
They shall be used for their intended purpose and in perfect and clean condition.

Disposal/Recycling

When the apparatus is disposed of, the respective national regulations on waste disposal will have to be observed.
In case of disposal you can obtain additional information from your Cooper Crouse-Hinds / EATON branch.
In order to facilitate the recycling of individual components, plastic parts are provided with the identification mark of the plastic material used.
