Operating Instructions

Thank you for choosing a Thomson product. Take your time and read the following instructions and information completely. Please keep these instructions in a safe place for future reference. If you sell the device, please pass these operating instructions on to the new owner.

Safety instructions

  • Do not use the replacement remote control in damp environments and avoid contact with splashing water.
  • Keep the replacement remote control away from heat sources and do not expose it to direct sunlight.
  • Do not drop the replacement remote control.
  • Do not open the replacement remote control. It does not contain any parts that can be maintained by the user.
  • As with all electrical products, the replacement remote control should be kept out of the reach of children.
  • Use the product only for the intended purpose.
  • Protect the product from dirt, moisture and overheating and use it in dry environments only.
  • Do not use the product in areas in which electronic products are not permitted.
  • Do not modify the product in any way. Doing so voids the warranty.
  • Dispose of packaging material immediately in accordance with the locally applicable regulations.
  • Do not operate the product outside the power limits given in the specifications.
  • Do not attempt to service or repair the product yourself. Leave any and all service work to qualified experts.
  • Only use the article under moderate climatic conditions.

Warning – Batteries

  • When inserting batteries, note the correct polarity (+ and – markings) and insert the batteries accordingly. Failure to do so could result in the batteries leaking or exploding.
  • Only use batteries (or rechargeable batteries) that match the specified type.
  • Before you insert the batteries, clean the battery contacts and the polarity contacts.
  • Do not allow children to change batteries without supervision.
  • Do not mix old and new batteries, or batteries of different types or from different manufacturers.
  • Remove the batteries from products that are not being used for an extended period (unless these are being kept ready for an emergency).
  • Do not short-circuit batteries.
  • Do not charge batteries.
  • Do not burn batteries.
  • Keep batteries out of the reach of children.
  • Never open, damage or swallow batteries or allow them to enter the environment. They can contain toxic, environmentally harmful heavy metals.
  • Remove spent batteries from the product and dispose of them without delay.
  • Avoid storing, charging and using in extreme temperatures and at extremely low atmospheric pressures (such as at high altitudes).

First steps – Inserting the batteries

  • Use 2 type AAA batteries.
  • Remove the battery cover on the underside of the remote control.
  • Ensure the correct polarity (+/-) of the batteries and the battery compartment.
  • Insert the batteries.
  • Reattach the battery cover on the remote control.

Setting up the remote control

The remote control is programmed using web-based software. This software can be found at https://support.hama.com/thomson-rca.

After calling up the above website, follow the software instructions. The individual steps are also explained in the pictures below.

  1. On this page, you can select the preferred language or contact our Support Team if you have any queries.

  2. The “SELECT” button allows you to start programming the remote control.

  3. Select the device for which you wish to program the remote control.

  4. Enter the brand and the model number of the device you wish to control.

  5. Confirm the brand and model number you have entered.
    The picture symbol also allows you to see a picture of the original remote control.

  6. Select the device button for which you wish to program the setting.

  7. Here, you can choose whether you

    • want to program further devices [+];
    • finish programming [X];
    • change the device you have set [Pencil];
    • continue with programming the remote control [PROGRAM].
  8. Connect the enclosed cable to the audio output of your PC / laptop / smartphone / tablet and the remote control. The connection is located on the right of the remote control.
    Set the output volume on your PC / laptop / smartphone / tablet to a value between 70% and 100%. At the same time, press the right and left arrows on the remote control as shown in the image until the LED on the remote control lights up.
    Then press “PROGRAM”. During programming, the LED on the remote control flashes.

  9. If “PROGRAMMING COMPLETE” appears on the display of your PC / laptop / smartphone / tablet and you see the red tick, programming is complete. The LED on the remote control goes out.

  10. Test the remote control. If it is not working correctly, follow the steps below:

  11. Increase / reduce the volume on your PC / laptop / smartphone / tablet. This should be between 70 and 100%.

  12. Check that the connection cable was inserted correctly.

  13. Check the status of the batteries and replace them with new ones if necessary.

  14. Press the right and left arrow buttons on the remote control simultaneously until the LED lights up constantly.

  15. Press “PROGRAM” to transfer the selected setting to the remote control.

Care and maintenance

Never use old and new batteries in the universal remote control at the same time, as old batteries tend to leak and can lead to a loss of performance.

Never clean the universal remote control with scouring agents or harsh cleaning agents. Keep the universal remote control free of dust by cleaning it with a dry soft cloth.

Troubleshooting

Q. My replacement remote control does not work!

A. Check your TV. If the main switch on the device is off, the replacement remote control cannot operate the device.

A. Check that the batteries are inserted correctly and that the polarity has been observed.

A. Check that you have pressed the appropriate device button for the device.

A. Replace the batteries if the battery level is low.

Q. My TV device only responds to some button commands.

A. Try other codes until most of the buttons work properly.

Q. My device only responds to some button commands.

A. The remote control can only control commands that were present on the original remote control.
