Using the Mold

CAUTION

  • Always read, understand and follow the instructions and safety warnings that came with the resin you are using.
  • When working with casting resins, make sure the area is well-ventilated, wear nitrile gloves and use an applicator. Avoid contact with skin or clothing.

NOTICE

Application of a spray or brush-on mold release is highly recommended before each casting to prolong the life of the casting mold. Failure to use a mold release consistently could result in scratching, tearing or other damage to the inside of the mold while removing the castings.

  1. Determine how long you need your cast handle blank to be.

  2. Position the T-shaped stopper in the mold at the correct distance from the end. The mold has inch marks on the top surface to help with this. Make sure that the stopper is tight to all walls of the mold.

  3. Mix the casting resin you will be using, closely following the instructions that came with the product. Be aware of how much open or work time your specific resin allows before it begins to set.

  4. Add any desired coloring, again following the instructions specific to that product.

  5. Pour the thoroughly mixed resin into the Silicone Handle Blank Casting Mold up to the fill line on the inside of the cavity. Fig. 1.
CAUTION Exercise caution when using a pressure pot or heat source.

  6. Use the technique appropriate for your type of resin to remove bubbles from the casting – for example, a pressure pot for urethane or a torch or other heat source for epoxy.

  7. Allow the casting to cure for the time specified in the instructions that came with your casting resin.

  8. Carefully remove the stopper and flex the silicone mold to release your handle blank. Fig. 2.
