BREATHING COLOR Glamour II Veneer
Foam Roller Application
What you need
Tips for Getting Set-Up:
- Properly circulated air is highly recommended during the drying period of Glamour II.
- For best results we recommend working within the following conditions: 72°F ± 5°F (22°C ± 3°C) / 35-65% Relative Humidity
- Make sure you are in an area free from dust and debris.
Step 1: Preparing Glamour II
- Stir the gallon of Glamour II coating thoroughly to make sure the consistency of the coating is even especially if it has been sitting on a shelf for an extended period of time.
- Only remove the amount of Glamour II that you intend to use for your project and then replace the lid on the Glamour II container to prevent prolonged exposure to air.
We find that approximately 1/2 oz. of Glamour II per sq. ft. is ideal, but your results may vary slightly.
Mixing Glamour II Gloss & Matte
Measure Glamour II Gloss & Matte out into separate containers. Note:
Adjustments can be made to the percentages to create your custom desired
finish.
- For Semi-Gloss – 60% Gloss and 40% Matte
- For Semi-Matte – 40% Gloss and 60% Matte
Combine both measured Gloss & Matte Glamour II into a single container.
Step 2: Diluting Glamour II
- Using your measuring cup, measure out 1 part distilled water and 3 parts Glamour II.
- Heat the measured distilled water (microwave/stove) until approximately 90-99° F.
- Combine the warm distilled water and Glamour II in your mixing container. Stir the mixture slowly for at least one minute or until completely consistent. Never shake or stir rapidly as this may cause air to get trapped in your mixture.
Step 3: Application of Glamour II
- Pour the Glamour II directly onto your print in a “zigzag” pattern.
- Quickly pickup your foam roller and spread the Glamour II over the print.
- Using a firm amount of pressure, begin coating. Roll in multiple different directions to work the coating into the canvas. Gradually ease up the amount of pressure on the roller.
- Using very light pressure, roll out any imperfections (roller marks) you see, until they disappear.
Additional Tips
- You can coat fine art paper! Use the same technique, only with lighter pressure.
- Foam rollers can be reused. Simply rinse out your rollers under warm to hot water until clean, and squeeze out excess water.
- In most cases, you should apply two medium coats, with about 30 minutes of drying time between each coat. You may be able to get by with one medium-to-thick coat instead. We recommend performing a simple test in your specific environment..
Step 4: Unused Glamour II
- Once Glamour II has been mixed with distilled water it must be used as soon as possible.
- Unused or leftover diluted Glamour II must be stored in an air tight container and NEVER be used after 2 weeks from original dilution date. After diluted Glamour II has past the 2 week mark it should be thrown away and not used on fine art prints.
- NEVER combine unused diluted Glamour II into the original gallon of undiluted product. The integrity of the entire gallon may be essentially compromised and should not be used.
Print Storage, Packaging and Shipping
Never package prints “face-to-face”.
- Never allow cardboard or other acidic material to come into contact with the print before/during/after packing or shipping.
- ALWAYS allow AT LEAST 24 hours for a print to dry before packaging.
- Use an interleaving paper to prevent prints from coming in contact with one another.
- Inform your customer to let prints acclimate for 8 hours prior to opening their package.
- Warning for Extreme Climate: Glamour II coated prints can stick together if exposed to extreme heat for an extended period of time during shipping. Allow 24 hours to acclimate to a lower temperature before separating shipped prints.
- Ship prints vertically, to avoid the unnecessary weight caused by stacking horizontally.

What you need
Tips for Getting Set-Up:

-
Set-up in an open room. Preferably a commercial space or residential garage with an open wall.

Make sure you are in an area free from dust and debris.

Step 2: Diluting Glamour II
- Using distilled water and a measuring cup, measure out an equal amount of water to the amount of Glamour II you prepared in step 1. One part coating, one part water.
Tips for Getting Set-Up:
- HVLP Gun – Stainless Steel or materials recommended to be used with water-based chemicals: 1.3mm +/- .2mm Nozzle | Non-Bleed.
- Use a line pattern nozzle, avoid cone pattern nozzles as these oversaturate during spraying.
- Br eathing Color recommends the use of the Fuji Minimite or Wagner Flexio line of HVLP spraying equipment, based on several positive reviews from our customers. However, the use of a standard air compressor and non-bleed HVLP spray gun found at any hardware store should work fine.
- Pour the diluted Glamour II directly into the paint cup/hopper on the HVLP Spray Gun.
- If using an air compressor setup, adjust the air pressure according to your guns manufactures recommendations – Usually 30-40 PSI working pressure. If no PSI gauge, set to “low” or lowest power setting.
- If working with an adjustable pattern nozzle, choose a wide fan pattern.
- It is best to spray your prints at a 45-90° slant as opposed to flat on a table. Hang your prints directly on a wall or attach to a rigid substrate and lean against a wall.
- Using a smooth flowing motion, spray your prints with your HVLP gun moving your hand at approximately 1 foot per 1 minute.
- Pan from left to right, and right to left overlapping strokes approximately 50%.
- Your prints should appear wet and slightly milky. The first coat is the most important and should be applied as thick as possible while avoiding dripping.
- For some applications a second or even third coat may be applied if necessary.
You should allow 10-15 minutes for your previous coat to set before starting on the next. Repeat the same procedure as your first coat for all subsequent coats.
