Install the Levelers
- Unscrew and remove the top hex nut from each of the Leveling Feet.
- Insert the threaded post of a Leveling Foot in the hole in the bottom of the square base of each of the Legs.
- Thread the hex nut back on each Leveling Foot and use a 3/4″ wrench to tighten. Fig. 1.
- If you need to adjust the Leveling Feet after the Rock-Steady Steel Stand is fully assembled, loosen the Top Hex Nut and lower the Bottom Hex Nut. Adjust the Middle Hex Nut until the Leveling Foot is correctly positioned. Then tighten the Top Hex Nut and raise the Bottom Hex Nut until it’s tight against the Middle Hex Nut.
Stand Assembly
- Start with the ends of your stands. Lay out the Legs in pairs with two 18″ Stretchers between each pair.
- Make sure the 18″ Stretchers are oriented so the mitered top flanges are facing up. Position them on the inside faces of the Legs and align the square holes in the Stretchers with those in the Legs, at top and bottom.
- Connect the 18″ Stretchers to the Legs with a 5/16″-18 Carriage Bolt, Washer and 5/16″-18 Nut in each square hole, starting with the top hole. The Carriage Bolts should beinstalled from the outside face of the Legs so the round heads are facing out, and the Washers should be installed from the inside, before the Nuts. Figs. 2. Before fully tightening the Nuts, use a square to make sure that the Stretchers and Legs are joined at 90°.
- With both ends of your stand assembled, lay out the 26″ Stretchers between them.
-
It’s easiest to connect the ends when they’re upside down and you can rest the top 26″ Stretcher against the work surface. So turn one end upside down and place one 26″ Stretcher inside the Leg with the mitered flange against the work surface. Fig. 3.
-
Align the square holes in the 26″ Stretcher with those in the Legs and connect the two parts with a 5/16″-18 Carriage Bolt, Washer and 5/16″-18 Nut in each square hole. Tighten the Nuts, but not so much that adjustment isn’t possible. Fig. 3.
-
Following the same process, connect the other end assembly to the 26″ Stretcher. Fig. 3.
-
Attach the other 26″ Stretcher on the same side of the stand assembly to the two ends with a 5/16″-18 Carriage Bolt, Washer and 5/16″-18 Nut in each square hole. Make sure that the Stretcher is oriented so that the mitered flange
will face up when the stand is in use. Fig. 3. -
As you did when assembling the ends, use a square to make sure that the 26″ Stretchers and Legs are joined at 90°. Tighten the 5/16″-18 Nuts securely.
- Attach the remaining two 26″ Stretchers between the Legs on the other side of the assembly, following the same process and securing with a 5/16″-18 Carriage Bolt, Washer and 5/16″-18 Nut in each square hole. Make sure that the Stretchers are installed inside the Legs and that the mitered flanges are oriented correctly.
- Use a square to make sure the 26″ Stretchers and Legs are joined at 90°. Tighten the 5/16″-18 Nuts securely.
- Turn the stand upright and check once more that the assembly is square. Mount the top of your choice and, if desired, a shelf, using the mounting holes in the mitered flanges of the Stretchers. (Mounting hardware for top and shelf not included.)
- If necessary, adjust the Leveling Feet so the stand sits solidly on the floor.
- Apply the Rockler sticker to one of the front Stretchers.
We recommend centering it on the lower front Stretcher.
