Safety Rules for Working with Fuels and Electrical Energy in Gas Stations

  • Fuels and their vapors will explode or burn, if ignited. Spilled or leaking fuels cause vapors.
  • Even filling customer tanks will cause potentially dangerous vapors in the vicinity of the dispenser or island.
  • Open flames from matches, lighters, welding torches, or other sources can ignite fuel vapor.
  • When performing work in gas stations you must use only manual pneumatic or hand tools.
  • Do not use a soldering iron.
  • If pneumatic tools cannot perform the work, you must use electric tools that are suitable for explosive areas.
  • Make sure not to work on fuel equipment, tanks or dispensers with electric tools that may spread sparks or cause a flare-up.
  • Turn off the power before performing any electrical work on gas station.
  • Only an authorized electrician should carry out all wiring and connection of the electrical system.
  • Ensure that grounding connections are properly made.
  • A fence should be set around the work area in order to prevent injury of the employees and public

The Wireless Nozzle Reader (WNR) is an active stand-alone device fitted to the nozzle. The WNR is a robust system enclosed in rugged plastic, designed to operate in harsh fuel environments. It is easy to install and does not require any adaptations to the nozzle. The nozzle is inserted into a vehicle fuel tank inlet. The WNR automatically reads the vehicle identification device data and transmits it to the Island Control Unit (ICU) via the Wireless Automated Fueling (WAF) unit to check the tag authentication and verification. Only then will authorization be approved and fuel dispensed into the vehicle. Throughout the course of fueling the WNR transmits refresh signals to the WAF unit showing that the fueling is in progress and will do so until the transaction is completed. The nozzle tag contains a replaceable battery that is able to operate for approximately up to 2 years depending on conditional usage.

WNR Battery Replacement Instructions

Do not open when an Explosive atmosphere is present. Risk of explosion if incorrect batteries are used. Always replace the batteries with original manufacturer batteries and of the type specified above.

Step 3: Remove Battery by carefully disconnecting connector from the nozzle tag housing.
Step 4: Insert new Battery. Insert connector as shown. Make sure connection is seated properly.

Attention
The Seal should be inserted into the slot all the way around the cover.
Use tweezers if necessary.

Step 6: Close WNR Ta g with the 4 screws removed when opening the nozzle tag. Tighten the screws diagonally and only tighten half way until all screws are inserted. Then tighten all screws in the diagonal pattern.

Visually verify

  1. T here are NO gaps all the way around the nozzle tag housing
  2. T here is light indication (red or green) for battery powered on if moving the tag at the correct angle (at least 45 deg.)

Wireless Nozzle Tags

The Wireless Nozzle Tag is a transceiver that can be installed on all types of fuel nozzles. The Wireless Nozzle Tag stays in a sleep mode until activated. The nozzle tag is activated by the VIB every time the nozzle is inserted into the fuel tank inlet. The nozzle tag is battery powered and will last at least two years under normal use
