Preparation for mounting
Check that you can receive a signal before mounting the clock. See “DCF signal
reception” for more information.
Assembly
-
The clock is designed to be hung on a wall. · Use the rear-mounted hook to hang the clock (not shown in the diagram).
Ensure that no existing cables or pipes (including water pipes) are damaged when drilling mounting holes or securing screws. -
Secure the clock in place using a screw that protrudes a few millimetres from the wall. · Refer to “Operation” for more information on using and setting up the wall clock. · Hang the clock on the screw using the hook.
Operation
Inserting/replacing the battery
- Remove the used battery (if applicable).
- Before inserting the battery for the first time, remove the locking pin (4) on the back of the clock.
- Insert one 1.5 V AA battery (not included) into the battery compartment (5) on the back of the clock, making sure that the positive (+) and negative (-) poles are correctly aligned.
- Change the battery if the clock fails to keep the time or the hands stop moving.
- In principle, it is possible to operate the clock with a rechargeable battery. However, rechargeable batteries have a lower voltage (rechargeable battery = 1.2 V, conventional battery = 1.5 V) and a lower capacity, resulting in a shorter battery life. If you wish to use rechargeable batteries, use special NiMH batteries with a low self-discharge. For best results, we recommend that you use high-quality alkaline batteries.
DCF signal reception
To ensure optimal signal reception, do not place the clock next to other electronic devices, cables, or metal objects. Some electronic devices may interfere with DCF reception. · When you insert the battery, the clock will attempt to receive a DCF signal. The hands of the clock will automatically move to 12:00. When a DCF signal is received, the hands will automatically move to the correct time. · This synchronisation process normally takes 25 minutes. The clock will display the correct time when the DCF signal has been decoded (this can take up to 5 minutes).
- It may take a few minutes for the clock to receive a DCF signal. Do not move the clock during this time. Do not adjust any controls during this time.
- Signal reception may be poor when the clock is placed near to double-glazed windows, reinforced concrete, coated wallpapers or electronic devices, or when the clock is placed in a cellar.
- The hands will move several times while the time is being set.
- If the correct time is still not displayed after 5 to 7 minutes, move the clock to a different location and restart the DCF signal reception process manually. Press and hold down the REC button (2) on the back of the clock for 3 seconds. The clock will attempt to search for a time signal. (See “Manual DCF signal reception”.)
- Wait 25 minutes for the time to be displayed.
- The clock automatically attempts to receive a DCF signal six times a day at 01:22, 05:22, 09:22, 13:22, 17:22 and 21:22.
- Once the clock has received a signal, it syncs with the DCF time three times per day at 01:22, 03:22 and 05:22. This is sufficient to keep the time accurate to within one second per day.
- The DCF radio time signal is sent from a transmitter in Mainflingen (near Frankfurt am Main, Germany). It has a range of up to 1500 km, increasing to 2000 km in ideal reception conditions. The DCF signal contains information such as the exact time and date (with a theoretical time deviation of one second every million years). There is no need to set the summer and winter time manually.
Manual DCF signal reception
- To search for a DCF signal manually (for example, when you move the clock to a new location and need the clock to search for a DCF signal again), press and hold the REC button (2) for 3 seconds.
- The clock will stop for approximately 3 minutes while it searches for a DCF signal. Wait until the correct time is displayed. If the clock fails to receive a signal, the hands will start moving again. For example, if the time was 13:00 when the clock started to search for a signal and the search attempt lasted 3 minutes, the clock will display 13:03 when the search attempt ends. Setting the time manually
- You may need to set the time manually, for example when the clock is not within range of the DCF signal.
- To set the time manually, press the M.SET button (3) button for three seconds. The second hand will stop for approximately 5 seconds. Start setting the time while the second hand is not moving. If the hand starts moving again, press the M. SET button for three seconds to go back to the manual time setting mode.
- Press the M.SET button briefly to adjust the time minute by minute, or press and hold to adjust the time continuously.
- When you release the M.SET button, the new time will be applied after 5 seconds and the hands will start moving again.
Resetting the clock
- Use the reset function if the clock fails to respond when you press the buttons or if you encounter other issues (e.g. the clocks fails to receive a DCF signal). Resetting the clock will delete all previously received DCF data. Before resetting, check whether you can receive a signal in another location.
- To reset the clock, press the RESET (1) button with a pointed object (e.g. a pen). · The hands will move to the 12:00 position and the clock will attempt to receive a new DCFsignal.
- Wait 25 minutes for the time to be displayed.
Discontinuing use
To discontinue use (e.g. when moving house), reset the clock (see “Resetting
the clock” for details).
The locking pin (4) can only be inserted when the hands are pointing to 12:00.
Remove the battery before inserting the locking pin.
Care and cleaning
- Do not use strong or abrasive detergents, rubbing alcohol or other chemical solutions, as these could damage the housing or even impair the functioning of the product.
- The clock does not require any maintenance apart from changing the battery, therefore do not attempt to dismantle it.
- Remove the battery before cleaning.
- Use a dry, lint-free cloth to clean the product.
- Dust can be easily removed using a soft clean brush.

Troubleshooting
The clock is not synchronising or reception is intermittent:
- The clock is out of range of the DCF transmitter or there is interference from the surroundings.
- Move the clock to a different location and switch off devices that may be interfering with reception such as TVs, computers or microwave ovens.
- Avoid placing the clock close to large metal surfaces that may block reception. Metalcoated windows may also affect signal reception.
- To synchronise the clock, place it by a window with either the front or back facing towards Frankfurt, Germany.
- Leave the clock switched on overnight to reduce atmospheric interference.
- Reset the clock (see “Resetting the clock” for details).
