Installation Requirements Option
Option-specific installation requirements are provided as separate documents, as the options could be supplied together with a new microscope or as an upgrade on an already installed microscope. This document is to be used together with the main microscope installation requirements document. Also consult ZEISS regarding conflicting information given in the installation requirements for the microscope and the option. It may be required to change an existing installation of a microscope when an option is added, e.g. adequate space is required or an additional mains electricity supply. Furthermore, adding an option on the microscope may introduce interference on the image of the microscope.
Requirements
The following sections describe each requirement in detail.
Environmental Requirements
The RISE option does not require any specific environmental conditions. The environmental specifications for the main microscope apply to the whole system. Please also refer to the installation requirements of the microscope for detailed information about environmental requirements. A site survey can be requested from your local ZEISS service representative prior to the installation.
Location Requirements
If a microscope is to be delivered with additional options, please discuss the
additional requirements for these options with a ZEISS service representative.
The options may require additional health and safety considerations, space,
power points or other resources.
The microscope and options must only be operated in closed rooms. The
microscope should not be installed near radiators or windows with direct
sunlight.
Compliance with the installation requirements of the microscope and the
availability of the requested supplies is the responsibility of the customer
and has to be readily available at the time of installation.
- Installation site Exclusively inside buildings
- Operating range ≤ 2000 m above sea level
Info
Harmful gases and fumes that may be used on the microscope must be safely
extracted from the microscope and site in accordance with local safety
regulations. The microscope must not be set up in areas with potential danger
by explosives.
Space Requirements
-
Recommended room size Min. 4.0 m x 5.0 m x 2.3 m
-
Service and safety clearance area Min. 0.75 m at each side
Note: Some detectors require a longer distance between the wall and the left-hand side of the SEM. -
Entrance Min. 0.8 m wide
The Raman system uses a 2 m USB cable from the control unit to the Raman system PC. The Ra-man power and control unit is placed on the left-hand side of the Sigma SEM and the spectrometer is installed on the left WDX port of the Sigma SEM. Therefore moving the Raman power and control unit to access the left panel of the SEM is limited due to cable and fiber optic lengths. The following layouts are recommended for optimal accessibility, airflow and stability, depending on the options purchased with the system. For possible changes in preferential layout, please discuss with your ZEISS representative. The placing of the user table can vary depending on available space and cable lengths.

Safety and Radiation Information
Laser Safety
The Raman equipment is classified as laser class 3B / IIIB, as laser class 3B radiation is generated in the system. The operator of the laser equipment is responsible for conformance with protective measures and safety requirements. Laser safety measures in accordance with the applicable country-specific legal regulations remain valid. As the responsible body, the operator is responsible for complying with laser safety regulations.
WARNING – CLASS 3B LASER RADIATION WHEN OPEN. AVOID EXPOSURE TO THE BEAM
