Mechanical Assembly
Microphone Capsules:
Lectrosonics offers two types of capsules. The HHC is the standard capsule and
the HHVMC is the Variable Mic Capsule which includes adjustments for Bass,
Midrange and Treble.
- Along with these two models from Lectrosonics, a variety of different capsules with a common thread and electrical interface are available from the major microphone manufacturers.
Do not touch the contacts between the mic capsule and transmitter body. When necessary, the contacts can be cleaned with a cotton swab and alcohol.
Capsule Installation
Capsules are attached with a right-hand thread. To remove the windscreen from the mic capsule, line up the blue wrench (included with the capsule head) with the flat notches on the lower threaded area of the mic capsule.
Battery Installation
To insert batteries, close the eject lever and insert the upper contacts first
(closest to the mic capsule). Polarity is marked on the label in the bottom of
the battery compartment.
The contacts are very tight to prevent the batteries from “rattling” as the
transmitter is being handled. Pull the eject lever out-ward to remove the
batteries. The battery tips will move outward, making them easier to grasp.
Control Panel
Six membrane switches on the control panel are used to set up the transmitter by navigating the menus on the LCD and selecting the desired values.
Setup and Adjustments
Powering On
Press and hold the Power Button until a status bar on the LCD is com-pleted.
The status bar will appear on the LCD, followed by a display of the model,
firmware version, frequency band and compatibility mode. When you release the
button, the unit will be operational with the RF output turned ON and the Main
Window displayed. If you release the button before the status bar is complete,
the unit will turn on in the Standby mode with the RF output turned OFF and
the antenna icon will blink. Powering Off
Press and hold the Power Button (or the side button if it is configured for
turning the power on and off) while the status bar on the LCD is completed.
The power will then be turned off. This can be done from any menu or screen.
NOTE: If the Power Button is released before the status bar has completed,
the unit will remain turned on and the LCD will return to the same screen or
menu that was displayed previously.
Standby Mode
A brief push of the keypad Power Button turns the unit on and places it into a
“standby” mode (not transmitting). Press the button and release before the
status bar completes. This allows the transmitter to be set up without the
risk of creating interference for other wireless systems that are operating in
the vicinity. A notice will appear briefly confirming that the RF output of
the trans-mitter is turned off, followed by the Main Window. The antenna
symbol will blink as a reminder that the RF output is turned off.
Main Menu and Setup Screen Details
Entering the Main Menu
The LCD and keypad interface makes it easy to browse the menus and make the
selections for the setup you need. When the unit is powered up in either the
operating or the standby mode, press MENU/SEL on the keypad to enter a menu
structure on the LCD. Use the UP and DOWN arrow buttons to select the menu
item. Then press the MENU/SEL button to enter the setup screen.
Main Window Indicators
The Main Window displays on/off status, talkback or audio mute status, standby
or operating mode, operating frequency, audio level and battery status. If the
programmable switch function is set for Mute or Talkback, the Main Window will
indicate that the function is enabled.

Menu Item Descriptions Input
Gain
Gain can be set, from -7 to +44, by using the up and down arrow buttons.
Adjusting the Input Gain
The two bicolor Modulation LEDs on the top panel provide a visual indi-
cation of the audio signal level entering the transmitter. The LEDs will glow
either red or green to indicate modulation levels as shown in the following
table. NOTE: Full modulation is
achieved at 0 dB, when the “-20” LED first turns red. The limiter can cleanly
handle peaks up to 30 dB above this point.
It is best to go through the following procedure with the transmitter in the standby mode so that no audio will enter the sound system or recorder during adjustment.
- With fresh batteries in the transmitter, power the unit on in the standby mode (see previous section Powering On in Standby Mode).
- Navigate to the Gain setup screen.
- Prepare the signal source. Position a microphone the way it willbe used in actual operation and have the user speak or sing at the loudest level that occur during use, or set the output level of the instrument or audio device to the maximum level that will be used.
- Use the UP and DOWN arrow buttons to adjust the gain until the 10 dB glows green and the –20 dB LED starts to flicker red dur-ing the loudest peaks in the audio.
- Once the audio gain has been set, the signal can be sent through the sound system for overall level adjustments, monitor settings, etc.
- If the audio output level of the receiver is too high or low, use only the controls on the receiver to make adjustments. Always leave the transmitter gain adjustment set according to these instructions, and do not change it to adjust the audio output level of the receiver.
Rolloff (Low Frequency Roll-off)
The low frequency audio roll-off is adjustable to optimize performance for
ambient noise conditions or personal preference.
Low frequency audio content may be desirable or distracting, so the point at
which the roll-off takes place can be set to 20, 35, 50, 70, 100, 120 or 150
Hz.
Phase (Selecting Audio Polarity)
This setting allows for configuration for use with certain microphones, or for
setting custom parameters.
Xmit Setting Frequency
Frequency (mHz and kHz) in can be set by using the MENU/SEL button to choose
mHz or kHz and the UP and DOWN arrows to adjust frequency Tuning Groups
Tuning groups can be received via IR (Infared) port sync from a receiver.
The group frequencies are set by the receiver. The group names will be
displayed the bottom of the screen as Grp x, Grp w, Grp v, or Grp u.Use the
MENU/SEL button to toggle between options and the UP and DOWN arrow buttons
to adjust.
RF On?
Turn Rf off to preserve battery power while setting other transmit-ter
functions. Turn it back on to begin transmitting.. Use the UP and DOWN arrow
buttons to toggle and MENU/SEL to save.
TxPower
Allows the transmitter output power to be set as 25 or 50 mW. Use the UP and
DOWN arrow buttons to scroll and MENU/SEL to save. Note: If there is a key
mismatch, the key verification LED will blink.
WipeKey
This menu item is only available if Key Type is set to Standard, Shared or
Volatile. Select Yes to wipe the current key and enable the DBu to receive a
new key
SendKey
This menu item is only available if Key Type is set to Shared. Press MENU/SEL
to sync the Encryption key to another transmitter or receiv-er via the IR
port.
Setup
ProgSw (Programmable Switch Functions)
The programmable switch on the top panel can be configured using the menu to
provide several functions:
- (none) – disables the switch
- Mute – mutes the audio when switched on; LCD will display a blinking “MUTE” and the -10 LED will glow solid red.
- Power – turns the power on and off
- TalkBk – switches the audio output on the receiver to a different channel for communication with the production crew. Requires a receiver with this function enabled.
NOTE: The programmable switch will continue to operate whether or not settings are locked.
Selecting Battery Type
The voltage drop over the life of batteries varies by type and brand. Be sure
to set the correct battery type for accurate indications and warnings. The
menu offers alkaline or lithium types. If you are using rechargeable
batteries, it is better to use the timer func-tion on the receiver to monitor
the battery life rather than the indicators on the transmitter. Rechargeable
batteries maintain a fairly constant voltage across the operating time on each
charge and stop working abruptly, so you will have little or no warning as
they reach the end of operation.
Backlit
Sets the screen backlight to be always on, on for 30 seconds or on for 5
seconds.
Restoring Default Settings (Default)
This is used to restore the factory settings.

Programmable Switch Functions
A special button on the outside of the housing can be configured to provide several different functions, or to be inoperative by selecting(none). The ProgSw button on the keypad opens a setup screen to select the programmable switch function. Enter this setup screen and then use the UP/DOWN arrows to select the desired function and press the MENU/SEL button to return to the Setup Window. The ProgSw menu provides a scrollable list of the available functions. Use the UP/DOWN arrows to highlight the desired function and press BACK or MENU/SEL to select it and return to the main menu.
-
Power turns the power on and off.Hold the button on the housing in until the countdown sequence from 3 to 1 is completed. The power will then be turned off.
NOTE: When the button on the housing is set to Power, it will turn on the transmitter in the operating mode with the RF output on. -
Cough is a momentary mute switch. Audio is muted while the button on the housing is held in.
-
Push To Talk is a momentary talk switch. Audio is transmitted while the button on the housing is held (opposite of cough)
-
Mute is a “push on/push” off function that toggles on and off each time the button on the housing is pressed. The mute function defeats the audio in the transmitter, so it works in all compatibility modes and with all receivers.
-
(none) disables the button on the housing.
-
TalkBk is a “push to talk” function that is active only while the button is pressed. The talkback function provides a communication channel when used with a receiver equipped with this function, such as a Venue Wideband receiver with firmware Ver. 5.2 or higher. When pressed and held in, the side button re-directs the audio output to a different audio channel on the receiver. As soon as the switch is released, audio is returned to the program channel.
Main Window Displays for Function
The function of the Programmable Switch is displayed in the LCD Main Window.
In the None and Power functions, no indication is displayed. In the Mute and
Cough functions, the word MUTE is displayed.
