LET’S GET STARTED

  1. FIRST STEP IS TO REMOVE YOUR INTERIOR DOOR PANEL AND ANY THING THAT MAY BE IN THE WAY, LIKE INSULATION, ETC. NOTE- YOU MAY HAVE ANY NUMBER OF DIFFERENT DOOR CONFIGURATIONS- STOCK FULL TRIM, STOCK HALF TRIM, STOCK PANEL, UPHOLSTERED WOOD, ETC. EACH REQUIRE THEIR OWN REMOVAL METHOD.

  2. NOW, YOU WANT TO MARK YOUR HOLE TO DRILL USING THE PROVIDED TEMPLATE. THE IMAGE IN FIGURE 1 TO THE RIGHT SHOWS YOU HOW IT ALIGNS WITH YOUR DOOR PANEL. ALIGN THE LEFT SIDE WITH THE EDGE OF YOUR DOOR, AND ALIGN THE TOP WITH THE SEAM ON TOP.

  3. USING THE 3/16 DRILL BIT, BEGIN DRILLING YOUR HOLE. ONCE YOU’VE DRILLED THROUGH BOTH LAYERS OF THE DOOR SHEET METAL, SWITCH TO THE 13/32 DRILL BIT AND DRILL THE HOLE OUT TO THE FINAL SIZE. NOTE- IF YOU PREFER TO USE A SMALLER PILOT HOLE INITIALLY AND STEP UP YOUR HOLE SIZE IN SMALLER INCREMENTS THAT WORKS WELL TOO.

  4. NEXT, WE RECOMMEND DE-BURRING THE HOLE USING A GRINDING STONE OR A COUNTERSINK. A LARGER DRILL BIT WILL WORK IN A PINCH AS WELL IF YOU’RE CAREFUL WITH IT.

  5. WITH THE HOLE DE-BURRED; CLEAN THE AREA WITH ALCOHOL, AND APPLY A RUST PREVENTIVE. WE USUALLY JUST USE RUSTOLEUM PAINT, BUT ANY RUST PREVENTIVE PAINT OR COATING WILL WORK JUST FINE.

  6. GRAB THE UPPER & LOWER HINGE BACKING PLATES, 3/8-16 X 1.5 BUTTON HEAD HEX DRIVE SCREWS, AND 3/8 FLAT WASHERS AND INSERT INTO THE CORRESPONDING LOCATIONS AS SHOWN ON THE RIGHT.
NOTE – IT SAVES HEADACHE TO HAVE SOMEONE HOLD THE HARDWARE AND BACKER PLATES IN PLACE FOR THE NEXT STEP.

  7. WHILE SOMEONE IS HOLDING THE BACKER PLATES AND HARDWARE IN PLACE (SEE RIGHT) GRAB THE REAR DOOR PLATFORM AND HANG IT ON THE DOOR. ONCE IN PLACE, FASTEN THE 3/8 FLAT WASHERS AND 3/8-16 NYLON INSERT LOCKNUTS ONTO THE PROTRUDING BOLTS TO HOLD THE PANEL IN PLACE. DO NOT TIGHTEN THESE FASTENERS YET.FVCO-SP1109B-Passenger-Rear-Door-Platform-FIG-11

  8. YOU MAY BE ABLE TO DO THIS YOURSELF, BUT IT’S MUCH EASIER TO HAVE HELP. GRAB THE 3/8-16 X 1.25 CARRIAGE BOLT AND INSERT IT THROUGH THE SLOT ON THE DOOR MOUNT BRACKET OF THE REAR DOOR PLATFORM AND THROUGH THE HOLE YOU DRILLED IN THE DOOR. HAVE SOMEONE HOLD THISIN PLACE WHILE YOU GET THE 3/8 FLAT WASHER AND 3/8-16 NYLON INSERT LOCKNUT STARTED. WE SUGGEST USING A SHALLOW SOCKET AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 9 TO START, AND THEN SWITCH TO DEEP TO TIGHTEN (FIGURE 10). DO NOT TIGHTEN THE NUT ALL THE WAY YET.
NOTE – WE ADVISED LEAVING THE HINGE MOUNTS LOOSE SO THAT YOU COULD EASILY SHIFT THE FRAME WELDMENT INTO ALIGNMENT WITH THE HOLE.FVCO-SP1109B-

  9. THE FINAL STEP IS TO ALIGN THE REAR DOOR PLATFORM ON YOUR DOOR. THE LOWER HINGE MOUNT HAS A STOP BUILT INTO THE BRACKET. OPEN YOUR DOOR CAREFULLY TO APPROXIMATELY 135° (45° AWAY FROM SIDE OF VAN) AND ADJUST LOWER HINGE MOUNT INTO PLACE AS SHOWN BELOW IN FIGURE 11 AND SNUG THEM DOWN. THE SIDE OF THE PLATFORM SHOULD FOLLOW THE BODY LINE OF THE VAN. ONCE ALIGNED; TIGHTEN ALL BOLTS/NUTS, AND YOU ARE FINISHED AND READY TO CONFIGURE YOUR PLATFORM!FVCO-SP1109B-Passenger-Rear-Door-Platform-FIG-13
