AQ Outdoors/Aquabatics Calgary Ltd is one of Canada’s Leading Paddlesports Information Resources, Retail Stores and Education Providers. We strive to provide the best service, information, courses and products in the area of paddlesports.
For the 2023 season we are looking for 2 to 3 fulltime (seasonal) paddlesports instructors to work in our dynamic and varied education program. Our course offerings range from youth programming to recreational kayaking, beginner whitewater to creeking programs, Flatwater SUP to multi day raft support trips.
If you are a certified whitewater instructor and want to work in a professional environment, accelerate your personal paddling and instructional proficiency, work with other motivated and dedicated instructors and make good money doing it, then one of these roles may be for you.

SPECIFIC SKILLS

  • A team player but able to work independently.
  • Keen to learn a technical progression and apply that in all programming
  • Motivated to learn and progress into more responsibilities as time goes on.
  • Looking to be part of a professional and highly motivated instructional team. This includes a drive to improve both personal and instructional paddling skills.
  • Great with people and able to step into a program that has been built on creating lasting client relationships and be a key player in developing these with new clients into the future.
  • Have a positive attitude and a problem-solving mindset.
  • Experience working with youth and adults in a paddlesports instructional capacity.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide Whitewater, Rec/Touring, SUP and Raft instructions ranging from Flatwater to Class III Whitewater
  • Assist in getting gear ready for programming with other instructors and for cleaning and packing up gear after programs.
  • Facilitate paddlesports programming with other instructors and independently (depending on program)
  • Help maintain gear and do repairs as required
  • At times assist with basic program administration tasks
  • When required help shop staff out with shifts or specific tasks
  • Attend and be involved in ongoing instructor training
  • Transport of gear and/or clients to programs in company vehicles
    • This will include the towing of and backing of gear and boat trailers
  • Assist, as needed with kayak festivals and events
  • Other tasks as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  •  Minimum L2/I2 certified and L3/I3 cert is a bonus (we will however do thorough staff training and evaluation in house regardless of certifications) – OR EQUIVALENT
  • Any Sea Kayaking or SUP instructor certifications are a bonus
  • 40 Hour Wilderness First Aid (just needs to be taken and valid for the 2023 season)
  • Outdoor education degree or diploma is a bonus.

SALARY: Based on experience and certification level. Range is $165 – $225 per day for full day courses and $75 – $105 for evening programming.
BENEFITS: Equivalent of 2 weeks holiday pay paid out on each pay cheque, access to pro deals, high quality up skill courses and training within the company, ability to demo new gear. A long paddling season and amazing creeking opportunities in as little as 20 minutes drive.
SEASON: Typically, staff training starts mid April and season goes through to mid September or longer.
