Safety advisories:
Avoid looking directly into the light emitted by the light or shining the light into your own eyes or the eyes of another person. If the light accidentally shines into your eyes, close your eyes and move your head out of the light beam path. Do not use any strongly focussing optical device to look at the light beam. In cases where the light is used in a public or commercial setting, users should be provided with training concerning the safety measures for laser light.
Carry a spare light with you at all times, as the product can potentially fail unexpectedly at any time. The lamp housing becomes very hot during operation, especially without a cooling airstream. Please note the following points:

  • Keep out of the reach of children
  • Always disconnect the lamp head from the battery when you are not using the lamp or, for example, carrying it in your backpack. Accidentally turning on the lamp and the resulting heat can cause a fire.
  • Never cover the lens during operation. The resulting build-up heat can damage the lens within seconds.

Important: When the light is used in a stationary state, the light dims after a few minutes to reduce the light’s temperature. The light can only be used at 70 watts for long periods if air is flowing over the housing. This device may then be used by children 8 years of age or older, persons with limited physical, sen-sory or mental capabilities, as well as persons with no previous experience in handling such devices, if they are supervised by a person responsible for their safety.

All Alpha components are waterproof and can of course be used under extremely severe conditions. The lamp complies with IP protection class 68 but is NOT a diving lamp and is NOT suitable for use under water. If the lamphead is connected to the battery, without switching the light on, the Bluetooth module will automatically deactivate after 2 hours. You now can NOT turn on the light via the Bluetooth remote switch. Either press the lampheads switch, or reconnect the battery to start the Bluetooth module or light.

Mounting accessories & battery

Handlebar mounting:
For mounting the Alpha on a handlebar, two CNC Quick Release mounts are available.

Have a look at www.lupine.de

  • Art.No. 1131 for Ø 31.8 mm
  • Art.No. 1135 for Ø 35 mm

Note: Position one o-ring between lamphead and quickrelease, and one o-ring between quickrelease and screw.

You can mount the lamp, regardless of the stem width, absolutely centered on the handlebar. You only have to adjust the screw at the bottom of the lamphead.LUPINE-8100-Alpha-Helmet-Light-System-FIG-2

Mounting accessories & battery

Peppi V5:
Our Peppi allows to mount the remote switch on a handlebar. Have a look at: www.lupine.de Art.No. 1086 and 1066

The transmitter features a corrugated bottom allowing for moving the transmitter up to 1.5 cm to the left or to the right in the Peppi.

Mounting:
Your battery is supplied with both a short and a long velcro strap, coated with anti-slip material to ensure a secure mount. Use the strap which most closely matches your tube size.

Operation battery

Capacity Indicator:

Audible:
To check the capacity, simply press the touch-pad once. At first an audible signal will sound, which is especially useful while using the battery mounted on a helmet or headband, to give a quick reading in 20% steps.

.

Visible:
The visible indicator uses 5 blue LEDs. The LEDs can operate in two different operating states: blinking and continuous. LED meanings: A blinking LED is indicating a 10% step and a continuously glowing LED a 20% step.

Example: 3 LEDs steady glow (20 %, 40 %, 60 %) 1 LED blinking (80 %) = 70 % remaining capacity

Operation Alpha – Basics

Initialization & voltage display:
When you connect the light to the battery, the software runs a self-test. The battery voltage is then shown via the blue and red LEDs, as follows:

  • The blue LED blinks once for each volt; and then
  • the red LED blinks once for each 1/10 of a volt.

To see the battery voltage again, unplug the light from the battery and then plug it in again.

Switching on/ Changing levels:
Press the power switch twice to turn the light on; one blue LEDs will glow, indicating the 10W light level. Press the button rapidly to cycle through other power levels. You can set individual light levels through the app.

Switching the lamp off:
To switch off the lamp, hold the button down longer.

Factory settings remote control:

Recover factory settings:
Press and hold the button until 10 red LEDs turn on. Release the button. Disconnect the bat-tery, and all factory settings will be restored. Reconnect the transmitter with the lamphead.

Operation Alpha – Capacity indicator

Luminous performance:
The maximum lighting output can only be achieved with enough airflow to cool the lamp. High ambient temperature and low airflow will signal the controller to reduce power to the LEDs, thus reducing their brightness, to avoid overheating the LEDs and other electronics. For automatic brightness control, the “Speed Control” function can be activated in the app.

Lamphead display:
The remaining capacity will be shown in detail on any Lupine SmartCore battery. Additionally, the LEDs on the back of the lam-phead change color to indicate decreasing voltage.LUPINE-8100-Alpha-Helmet-Light-System-
FIG-9

Note: The battery time remaining after the green or red LED backlight turned on depends on total battery capacity, the ambient temperature, the battery’s age, and which setting is used. Moreover, since the voltage curve of a Li-Ion battery is not proportional to the power left in the battery, you need to learn how to interpret the relevant displays for your specific battery.

Empty battery and reserve power:
When the battery is completely discharged (10 red LEDs blinking), the light will shut down after flashing a few times! To activate the battery’s reserve power, doubleclick the switch. This will give you a few minutes more light, whose exact amount depends on the age of your battery. The light emitted in reserve-power mode is a very low beam so as to conserve power and keep the light going as long as possible. The 10 red and blue LEDs flash simultaneously when reservepower mode is activated. When the reserve power has been completely discharged, the light will shut down – which means that you to slow down.

Note: If only 2.0 W or less was used, reserve power is not available!

Safety advisory: Do not switch on the light when the battery is discharged, as this will invariably damage the battery. Recharge the battery as soon as possible to avoid a deep discharged battery.

Safety advisory: Do not switch on the light when the battery is discharged, as this will invariably damage the battery. Recharge the battery as soon as possible to avoid a deep discharged battery.

Programming light levels

Lupine Light Control 2.0 – available for IOS and Android With the new “Lupine Light Control 2.0” app you get many individual setups. Create custom profiles for your activities, and simply use them when you need them again. The App allows nearly free programming of the lamp.LUPINE-8100-Alpha-Helmet-

Precision Indicator:
Lightlevels below 10W are indicated trough the10 green LEDs. You can activate the the precision indicator trough the app.

Daytime Running Light:
Keep the button of the lamphead pressed until it lights up once, then release the button. You can also set the daytime running light as a lightlevel in your app.LUPINE-8100-Alpha-Helmet-Light-System-FIG-12

Bluetooth remote control

The Bluetooth remote comes together with two Peppi barmounts. On the bike, the best way to mount the remote is directly next to your grips so you have full control and don’t need to take off your hands while riding.

Connecting the transmitter to the light:
By default, your lamp has already been connected to the transmitter. For establishing a connection, the receiving mode in the lamp has to be activated. Keep the lamp’s button depressed until it lights up two times and the LED status bar shows 10 green lights, the button go. The receiving mode is active for 30 seconds. During this time, press the remote control’s green button until the remote does light up green, too. Release the button.

Several lamps on one transmitter:
It is possible to connect up to five lampheads to a single remote switch.

Several transmitters on one lamp / Unbinding:
Up to 4 transmitters may be connected to one lamp. The transmitters are stored in the lamp in turn. If you like to remove a transmitter from the light, set the light into receiving mode and keep the green switch of the transmitter pressed until it turns red. (Aprox. 20 sec.)

Enable/Disable the remote’s permanent LED light:
To enable or disable, hold down the blue button the remote control: The green LEDs turn on (keep pressing the button), as soon the green LEDs turn off and the blue LEDs turn on, let the button go.

Switching between operating concepts 1 and 2:
Press and hold the green pushbutton of the remote control until the blue and green LEDs flash alternately, then let the button go.

Low battery warning from lamphead:
The remote mirrors the lamphead’s low battery warning. A fully charged or partly discharged battery will be shown by a red LED light.

Low button cell:
With decreasing voltage, the remotes LEDs will also become weaker, to the point the remote does not work anymore. Also cold temperature does reduce the battery voltage.

Alpha Charger One

Before seriously using your light for the first time, the battery requires charging. Therefor use the inclosed 24V power supply, where you can charge either 7.2V or 14.4V batteries.

The Alpha Charger One comes with four different charging modes. At the push of the button you can switch between these.

  1. Li-Ion “charging” mode (standard) The Charger One automatically stops the charging process. The display will show “Full”.

  2. Li-Ion “discharge” mode In order to discharge the battery. The display will show you the discharged capacity.
Attention: Do not store an emtpy battery!!!

  3. Li-Ion “discharge/charge” mode This mode gives you the possibilty to discharge and char-ge the battery in one go. The program can be used after recalibrating a Smartcore battery.

  4. Li-Ion “50% storage” mode With this program the battery will be charged to 50% of the capacity. This is perfect for storing the battery over a longer period of time.LUPINE-8100-Alpha-Helmet-Light-System-FIG-17

  • Warning! This charger is to be used to charge rechargeable Li-Ion batteries only. It is NOT suitable for charging NiMH batteries!
  • Do NOT use non-rechargeable batteries. – Risk of explosion!

Product care and storage

  • 14.4V plug contact system (Alpha)
  • 7.2V plug contact system

Plug contacts:
Normally the plug contacts are maintenance free. However, if you use your Alpha light in humid, salt- air, environments, it’s advisable to apply a thin layer of Lupine Dutch Grease to the contacts every so often to prevent oxidation. Do NOT use terminal grease or contact spray.

Transport:
Important: Always keep the battery separate from the Alpha light, because otherwise the small amount of power used by the electronics will discharge the battery, and the lamp may switch on accidently. Important! Moreover, the consequent uncontrolled heat buildup could cause a fire or melt the adjacent plastic material. Could cause fire or death!

Storage:
During lengthy periods of non-use, fully charge the battery and store it in a cool, dry place, base-ment or the like. The battery can be kept plugged into the charger if desired.

7.2V Lupine batteries:
With limitations, your Alpha can also be operated from 7.2V batteries, in this case is the full power of the lamp is not available.
