IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
When using an electrical appliance, basic precautions should always be
followed, including the following:
READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THIS APPLIANCE. FOR HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY.
IMPORTANT:
The manufacturer cannot accept responsibility for damage caused when the
appliance is not used according to the instructions, or for uses other than
those for which it was intended.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, damage or injury:
-
Do not leave the appliance when plugged in. Unplug from the outlet when not in use and before servicing.
-
Do not use it outdoors or on wet surfaces.
-
Do not allow it to be used as a toy. Close attention is necessary when used by or near children.
-
Use only as described in this manual.
-
Do not use with damaged cord or plug.
If the appliance is not working as it should, has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or dropped into water, return it to the distributor where purchased for service. -
Do not pull or carry by cord, use the cord as a handle, close a door on the cord, or pull the cord around sharp edges or corners. Do not run the appliance over the cord. Keep the cord away from heated surfaces.
-
Do not unplug by pulling on the cord. To unplug, grasp the plug, not the cord.
-
Do not handle the plug or appliances with wet hands.
-
Do not put any objects into openings.
Do not use any opening blocked; keep free of dust, lint, hair, and anything that may reduce airflow. -
Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all parts of the body away from openings and moving parts.
-
Do not pick up anything that is burning or smoking, such as cigarettes, matches, or hot ashes.
-
Do not use it without a vacuum bag in place.
-
Turn off all controls before unplugging.
-
Use extra care when cleaning on stairs.
-
Do not use to pick up flammable or combustible liquids such as gasoline or use in areas where they may be present.
-
Do not attempt to service the unit while the appliance is plugged in.
-
Connect to a properly grounded outlet only. See Grounding Instructions.
-
Make sure your extension cord is in good condition and is the correct size for your appliance, i.e. 16 AWG.
If in doubt, use the next heavier gauge. The smaller the gauge number, the heavier the cord. An undersized extension cord will cause a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of power and overheating. -
Use only three-wire outdoor extension cords that have three-prong grounding plugs and grounding receptacles that accept the appliance’s plug.
-
To reduce the risk of personal injury due to a loose electrical connection between the appliance’s plug and extension cord, firmly and fully attach the appliance plug to the extension cord. Periodically check the connection while operating to ensure it is fully attached. Do not use an extension cord that provides a loose connection.
A loose connection may result in overheating, and fire, and increases the risk of burning. -
To reduce the risk of disconnection of the appliance cord from the extension cord during operation, secure the extension cord to the appliance plug as described in the manual.
GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS
MODEL: C-CPU4T
This appliance must be grounded. If it should malfunction or break down,
grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce
the risk of electric shock. This appliance is equipped with a cord having an
equipment-grounding conductor and grounding plug. The plug must be plugged
into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in
accordance with all local codes and ordinances.
This appliance is for use on a nominal 120-volt circuit and has a grounding
attachment plug. Make sure that the appliance is connected to an outlet having
the same configuration as the plug. No adapter should be used with this
appliance.
WARNING – Improper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor can
result in a risk of electric shock. Check with a qualified electrician or
service person if you are in doubt as to whether the outlet is properly
grounded. Do not modify the plug provided with the appliance. If it will not
fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician.

To release the handle, step on the left rear corner of the vacuum cleaner nozzle (Fig. 1).
-
Upright position – when cleaning tools are being used or for storage (Fig. 2).
Handle locks in this position. -
Middle position – for normal cleaning (Fig. 3).
-
Low position – for cleaning under furniture (Fig. 4).
Edge Cleaning Feature
The edge cleaning feature provides improved cleaning of carpets near walls and
stationary furniture. For maximum edge cleaning, position the right side of
the vacuum (from the user’s perspective) near walls or stationary furniture.
Automatic Self-Adjusting Nozzle
This vacuum cleaner is designed with an automatic self-adjusting nozzle. No
manual adjustments are required. The height of the nozzle is instantly and
automatically adjusted to the carpet pile height. This self-adjusting feature
allows the nozzle to float evenly over all carpet pile surfaces.
ON-BOARD TOOL CLEANING
This vacuum is equipped with onboard cleaning tools including a metal wand, stretch hose, crevice tool, and upholstery tool with a brush.
- Remove the stretch hose from the nozzle of the vacuum (Fig. 1).
- Attach any of the onboard tools to the end of the wand or directly onto the hose cuff.
HOW TO REPLACE THE VACUUM BELT
CAUTION: Unplug the vacuum cleaner before performing any of these steps.
How to Remove the Bottom Plate
-
Place the vacuum cleaner in the low position by pressing the foot pedal release twice while reclining the handle.
Turn the vacuum over. -
Remove the two screws holding the bottom plate in place (Fig. 1).
-
Remove the bottom plate.
How to Replace the Belt
-
Turn the vacuum cleaner over and remove the bottom plate as described in the above section.

-
Remove the belt from the brush roll.
-
Loop a new belt over the motor pulley (Fig. 4) and over the end of the brush roll.
-
Stretch the belt while inserting the brush roll back into the nozzle housing.
-
Reinsert the belt guard.
-
Spin the brush roll by hand to make sure it turns smoothly and the new belt is properly aligned.
-
Replace the bottom plate by hooking the front end of the plate into the two ribs on the front end of the nozzle housing. Press the bottom plate into place and fasten it with the two screws.
NOTE: To ensure maximum cleaning efficiency, check the belt regularly to ensure it is in good condition. Replace the belt if it is stretched, or cracked or if excessive slipping is occurring.
HOW TO CLEAN THE NOZZLE HOSE
CAUTION: Unplug the vacuum cleaner before performing any of these steps.
The nozzle hose carries the dirt from the nozzle to the vacuum bag. If the
hose should become clogged:
-
Pull out and turn the lid of the accessory attachment opening.
Remove the clog or blockage (Fig. 1). -
If the above step is not enough, remove the hose cuff from the attachment port inlet (Fig. 2). If you haven’t located the clog, turn the vacuum cleaner over and remove the bottom plate. Check the nozzle inlet tube for obstructions (Fig. 3). Clear the tube and reinstall the bottom plate.
THERMAL FUSE PROTECTION
This vacuum cleaner comes equipped with a Manual Reset Thermal Fuse Protector.
The thermal protector is designed to protect the vacuum cleaner from
overheating due to a cutoff in airflow (i.e. clogged hose, operating the
vacuum without a bag).
Should this situation occur, the thermal fuse protector will safely shut off
the vacuum cleaner to avoid any potential damage.
To Reset the Thermal Fuse
- Unplug the vacuum cleaner.
- Check for problems (over-filled bag, clog in the hose, clogged filters, etc.).
- Correct problem.
- Locate the “tripped” fuse — the small black button located on the lower left side on the back of the main body (roughly one inch to the right of the left wheel).
- Using a pencil, paper clip, or another pointy object, push the reset button.
- The plug vacuum cleaner in and begin using.
Please return to a Service Center if the problem continues or if you have any questions.
