GENERAL SAFETY WARNINGS

This product is designed only for specific applications as defined in the instructions and should not be modified or used for any manner not described in these instructions. Use only recommended accessories. Before using the 3 Person Standard Cribbage Template: READ, UNDERSTAND and FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS AND SAFETY WARNINGS. KEEP THESE INSTRUCTIONS READILY AVAILABLE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.

  • Always confirm that you are using the most recent version of the Instructions and safety warnings for your product (see the Instructions link on the product page at Rockler.com).
  • Before using another tool with this product, always read, understand and follow the instructions and safety warnings in the owner’s manual for that tool. If you do not have the owner’s manual, obtain one from the tool’s manufacturer before using it with this product.
  • Before using any chemical with this product, always read, understand and follow all safety warnings and guidelines in the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet (SDS; formerly called MSDS), especially regarding:
    • How to safely use the chemical, including potential hazards and recommended first aid measures;
    • Personal safety equipment required to safely use the chemical (e.g. gloves, eye protection, mask/respirator, etc.);
    • Proper and safe handling, storage and disposal of the chemical.
  • Before using this product, review and verify that all tools to be used with it have safety equipment installed and are in proper working order as defined by the tool’s owner’s manual.
  • Do not use this product until you have read and are confident you understand:
    • Standard Drilling Method (pp. 4-5);
    • Alternative Drilling Method (pp. 5-6).
  • The user assumes all risk and responsibility for the proper and safe use of this product and for ensuring product suitability for the intended application.
  • It is the sole responsibility of the purchaser of this product to ensure that anyone you allow to use this product reads and complies with all instructions and safety precautions outlined in this manual prior to use.
  • Follow all standard shop safety practices, including:
    • Keep children and bystanders away from the tool operating area;
    • Do NOT use power tools in explosive environments, or in the presence of flammable liquids, fumes or dust;
    • TURN OFF AND UNPLUG all power tools BEFORE making any adjustments or changing accessories;
    • Remain alert and use good judgment. Do not use this product if you are in any way impaired by medications, alcohol, drugs or fatigue;
    • Keep your work area well lit and clean;
    • Dress appropriately. Secure loose clothing, remove all jewelry and tie up long hair before using this product;
    • ALWAYS wear safety glasses, hearing protection and respiratory protection that complies with ANSI safety standards;
    • Use dust collection tools and dust face masks to reduce exposure to dust;
    • Use safety equipment such as featherboards, push sticks and push blocks, etc., when appropriate;
    • Maintain proper footing at all times and do not overreach;
    • Do NOT force woodworking tools.

PRODUCT-SPECIFIC SAFETY WARNINGS

To avoid serious injury, keep hands and fingers away from the drilling area. Maintain awareness of the bit’s entry and exit areas at all times.

Choose from 2 Drilling Methods

Two drilling methods are shown in these instructions. The Standard Drilling Method (Fig. 1), shown on below through page 6, produces two sets (up and back) of three scoring holes. The Alternative Drilling Method (Fig. 2), shown on Pages 6 – 8, produces three distinct sets of holes.ROCKLER-56896-Small-

Standard Drilling Method

NOTICE ; Minimum board dimensions: 4″ x 103⁄4″ x 3/4″.

  1. Hold or clamp the Template on your cribbage board workpiece, making sure that it’s positioned as desired and properly aligned.
  2. Chuck the included Self-Centering Bit in a handheld drill and drill the four holes outlined in red in Fig. 3.ROCKLER-56896-Small-Cribbage-Board-Templates-FIG- \(3\)
  3. Press the two included Indexing Pins in the indexing holes to hold the Template while you drill the holes outlined in red in Fig. 4.
  4. Remove the Indexing Pins and shift the Template so that the two rearmost outside holes in the “Repeat” section of the template are over the previous indexing holes. Press the Indexing Pins in these holes and drill the four holes outlined in red in Fig. 5.
  5. Move the Indexing Pins to the new indexing holes and drill the holes outlined in red in Fig. 6.
  6. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 three more times, drilling the holes outlined in red in Fig. 5 and Fig. 6.
  7. Remove the Template and check that your board looks like the one shown in Fig. 7.
  8. Install the Template so that its two rearmost outside holes are over the most recently drilled indexing holes. Press the Indexing Pins in these holes to hold the template; then drill the holes outlined in red in Fig. 8.
  9. Move the Indexing Pins to the holes shown in Fig. 9 and drill the holes outlined in red.
  10. Remove the Indexing Pins, shift the Template and reinstall the Indexing Pins to hold the Template as you drill the two sets of Scoring Holes holes shown in Fig. 10.ROCKLER-56896-Small-Cribbage-Board-Templates-FIG- \(7\)
  11. Remove the Round Template and sand the board surface.

Alternative Drilling Method

NOTICE: Minimum board dimensions: 35⁄8″ x 12″ x 3/4″.

  1. Hold or clamp the Template on your cribbage board workpiece, making sure that it’s positioned as desired and properly aligned.
  2. Chuck the included Self-Centering Bit in a handheld drill and drill the seven holes outlined in red in Fig. 11.
  3. Install the two included Indexing Pins in the holes shown in Fig. 12 to hold the Template while you drill the holes outlined in red.
  4. Remove the Indexing Pins, shift the Template as shown in Fig. 13 and install the Indexing Pins as shown. Then drill the holes outlined in red.
  5. Remove the Indexing Pins, reposition the Template farther down the board as shown in Fig. 14 and reinstall the Indexing Pins as shown. Drill the holes outlined in red.
  6. Remove the Indexing Pins, shift the Template as shown in Fig. 15 and reinstall the Indexing Pins as shown. Then drill the holes outlined in red.
  7. Repeat Steps 5 and 6 four more times, drilling the holes outlined in red in Fig. 14 and Fig. 15.ROCKLER-56896-Small-Cribbage-Board-Templates-FIG- \(9\)
  8. Remove the Indexing Pins. At this point, your board should look like Fig. 16 if all holes have been drilled correctly.
  9. Position the Template as shown in Fig. 17 and install the Indexing Pins as shown. Drill the holes outlined in red.ROCKLER-56896-Small-Cribbage-Board-Templates-FIG- \(10\)
  10. Remove the Indexing Pins, shift the Template as shown in Fig. 18 and reinstall the Indexing Pins as shown. Then drill the holes outlined in red. This completes the holes at this end of the board.
  11. Remove the Indexing Pins, reposition the Template back at the end of the board where you started, as shown in Fig. 19, and reinstall the Indexing Pins as shown. Drill the final two holes outlined in red.
