iTECHWORLD iTECHBM500 500 Amp Battery Monitor with Shunt
Introduction
The iTECHBM500 is a sophisticated high precision battery monitor that captures
integrated values in real-time. The iTECHBMS00 utilizes 500A current shunt,
the iTECHBM500 measure the discharge/recharge currents and calculate the
Ampere-hours (Ah) going in and out of the battery.
High-precision voltage measurements are taken and displayed in real-time for
lithium, lithium ion, lead-acid and nickel-metal hydride batteries.

INSTALLATION
The ITECHBM500 may be panel mounted and held in-place by the bracket and
butterfly nut.
Fully charge the battery bank such that it reaches 100% SOC before connecting
the iTECHBM500. Failure to take this step will lead to erroneous SOC readings.
CONNECTING
As shown in the image below, connect the B- terminal of the shunt to the
negative terminal of the battery. Connect the P- terminal of the shunt to the
load or the charger. Connect a sense wire to the positive terminal of the
battery. It is recommended that a 1A fuse be installed in series with the
sense wire. inally, connect one end of the shielded cable to the iTECHBM500
display cable( already installed on the display) and the other end of the
shielded cable to the current shunt.
SETTING UP
- Use the charge and discharge monitor to ensure the iTECHBM500 is capturing the appropriate currents.
- Ensure that the battery voltage is displayed correctly. Cross reference with voltage multi meter,
- To reset the capacity, press the button for three seconds to set the capacity to 100%.
- To enter the capacity, press the SET button for three seconds. Use the button the button to increase or decrease the capacity. Press the SET button when done.
- For parallel connections, enter the total usable capacity of the system by adding the usable capacities in Ahs of each battery.
- For 24V serles connections:
- The system capacity will equal the capacity of single battery.
- For single charging systems, the voltage sense wire should be connected to the system terminals
- For multi-bank charging systems, connect the shunt and voltage sense wire to the battery that has the positive terminal of the system. This will allow the ITECHBM500 to monitor one battery to represent all the batteries in the system.
OPERATING THE ITECHBM500
The iTECHBM500 is simple and easy to use. A full array of infor mation is available via the monitor’s display.
Battery soc: The iTECHBM500’s default sareen shows the battery capacity
as a 6.
If there is a load or charge going into the battery; a small triangle on the
bottom left-hand side of the screen will appear. The triangle will have either
a + or – 5ymbol
to indicate if you are putting power in + or taking power out Ifyou are
charging and discharge the battery at the same time the monitor wil aggregate
everything
and let you know if you are putting in more power than you are using or less
power
than you are using by showing a +or.
Battery Votage: On the default screen press the left < button once to see
the battery voltage.
Current: Press the SET button once, the iITECHBM500 displays the amps in
and out.
Please note that if you are charging and discharging at the same time,
the iTECHBM500 will show you the net amps.
Battery capacity: To see the battery’s capacity, press the set button
twice.
NOTES AND TIPS
- Ensure all negative cables from loads and chargers are connected to the shunt.
- Before setting up the iTECHBM500 ensure that the battery/batteries you wish to monitor are charged to ful.
- Set the iTECHBM500 to 100% and set the ah at the first installation, the ITECHBM500 will not do this automatically. If this is set this up incorrectly, the iTECHBM500 will not give an accurate reading.
- If you have a load or charger that is not connected to the shunt, the iTECHBM500 will not read the discharge/charge from this particular device and will not give an accurate reading.
Example 1: Solar panel is connected to the positive and negative terminal of the battery via the solar regulator. The solar panel is charging the battery. The iTECHBM500 will not show or register the charge because the negative terminal from the solar regulator should be connected to the shunt.
Example 2: An inverter is connected to the positive and negative terminal
of the battery. The inverter is discharging the battery. The iTECHE because
the negative terminal from the inverter should be connected to the shunt. 1500
will not show or register the discharge
The iTECHBM500’s screen will pulse dim to bright when a charge is being
detected. This is normal.
