Next Century BAT4 Battery Replacement Kit
This battery replacement kit is for the latest generation of NextCentury devices (TR4, TR4-X, RR4, RR4-TR). We are proud to provide the highest quality electronics with easy-to-replace batteries. Each battery in this kit will power a NextCentury device for 7-12 years, and you can be automatically notified when it’s time to change the batteries in any of your NextCentury equipment.

Tip: If the device has been powered off for an extended amount of time, an updated IMR (Initial Meter Read) can be entered using the NextCentury Mobile App.

Transceiver – Indoor
TR4
The TR4 Transceiver connects to nearly every meter type and model, instantly
adding full wireless smart meter functionality.
- Press tab to open and remove the old battery.
- Install the new battery by first attaching the new battery cable.
- Ensure the wire connecting to the meter is still secure, then return the Transceiver to its previously installed location.
- Close Transceiver
- To test wireless communication of the Transceiver, use the Test Connect button. If you see two green blinks then the Transceiver is good to go. Otherwise there may be other equipment on your property that needs attention.
Transceiver – Outdoor
TR4-X
The TR4-X Transceiver for outdoor use, includes all the functionality of the
TR4 an IP-68 waterproof design.
- Insert removal tool (or large screwdriver) and rotate left until the cap comes loose.
- Pull out old battery until wire connector is easily accessible. Disconnect the old battery and install the new one.
- Apply grease around the rubber gasket on the cap to ensure a waterproof seal.
- Reinsert battery cap. Tighten by rotating right until the arrow indicators are aligned.
- To test wireless communication of the Transceiver, swipe a magnet near the magnet icon of the Transceiver. If you see two green blinks then the Transceiver is good to go. Otherwise there may be other equipment on your property that needs attention.
Remote Reader
RR4
The Remote Reader is an advanced meter solution with a high visibility remote
display for one or two utility meters.
- Pull down locking tab and remove Remote Reader from the mounting plate.
- Twist base counter clockwise and carefully remove internal unit.
- Pull down and detach the old battery.
- Connect and then insert the new battery. Reassemble unit and return to the mounting plate.
- To test wireless communication of the Remote Reader, swipe a magnet near the right side of the device. If you see two green blinks the Remote Reader is good to go. Otherwise there may be other equipment on your property that needs attention.
Leak Sensor
LS4
The LS4 Leak Sensor alerts you of water leaking from appliances or water
lines, preventing costly water damage repairs.
- Press tab to open and remove the old battery.
- Install the new battery by first attaching the new battery cable.
- Ensure the leak sensor cable is securely connected. Return Leak Sensor to its previously installed location.
- Close Transceiver
- To test wireless communication of the Leak Sensor, swipe a magnet near the right side of the device. If you see two green blinks then the Leak Sensor is good to go. Otherwise there may be other equipment on your property that needs attention.

Setting Initial Meter Read (IMR)
Now that your device’s battery has been replaced, accurate billing can Now
that your device’s battery has been replaced, accurate billing can resume. If
your device has been powered off for an extended period, some usage during
that period may have been missed. To ensure ongoing meter data accuracy, we
recommend entering a new IMR at the time of battery replacement.
Updating IMR in your NCSS Mobile App
After replacing the battery and resetting the device, the meter’s current read
(IMR) can be entered on the NextCentury mobile app. This will ensure past
usage will be reflected accurately going forward.
- Use the Barcode Scanner tool on the mobile app to scan your Device’s serial number.
- Manually reset the Device.
- Tap “Quick Actions” and enter the new IMR.
