How to Stay Cool with a New Portable Air Conditioner
Because of a new federal test procedure for Portable Air Conditioners, you may notice that the cooling capacity claims on portable air conditioner packaging are significantly lower than that of models produced prior to 2017. This is due to changes in the test procedure, not to the portable air conditioners themselves.
What should I look for first when purchasing a portable air conditioner?
The right air conditioner helps you cool a room efficiently. An undersized unit won’t cool adequately while one that’s too large will not remove enough humidity, leaving the air feeling damp. To find the proper air conditioner, determine the square footage of the room you want to cool by multiplying the room length by its width. You also need to know the air conditioner’s BTU (British Thermal Unit) rating, which indicates the amount of heat it can remove from a room. A higher number means more cooling power for a larger room. (Be sure you are comparing only newer models to each other- older models may appear to have a higher capacity, but are actually the same). Be sure to “size up” if your portable air conditioner will be placed in a very sunny room, in a kitchen, or in a room with high ceilings. After you’ve found the right cooling capacity or your room, you can look at other features.
Why is the cooling capacity lower on newer models than on older units?
Federal regulations require manufacturers to calculate cooling capacity based on a specific test procedure. Models manufactured before 2017 were tested under a different procedure and cooling capacity is measured differently than in prior years’ models. So, while the BTUs may be lower, the actual cooling capacity of the air conditioners has not changed.
What is SACC?
SACC is the representative value of Seasonally Adjusted Cooling Capacity, in Btu/h, as determined in accordance with the DOE test procedure at title 10 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 430, subpart B, appendix CC and applicable sampling plans.

Important Safety Instructions of Power Supply Cord

WARNING
To reduce the risk of the fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, read the Important Safety Instructions of Power Supply Cord before operating this appliance.
NOTE
The power supply cord with this air conditioner contains a current detection device designed to reduce the risk of fire. Please refer to the following section “Operation of Current Device” for details.

operation of the Current Device

The power supply cord contains a current device that senses damage to the power cord. To test your power supply cord do the following:

  1. Plug in the Air Conditioner.
  2. The power supply cord will have TWO buttons on the plug head. Press the TEST button. You will notice a click as the RESET button pops out.
  3. Press the RESET button. Again you will notice a click as the button engages.
  4. The power supply cord is now supplying electricity to the unit. (On some products this is also indicated by a light on the head).

NOTES:
Do not use this device to turn the unit on or off.
Always make sure the RESET button is pushed in for a correct operation.
Press the RESET button when the Plug Current Device tripped and the air conditioner does not operate.
The power supply cord must be replaced if it fails to reset when either the TEST button is pushed, or it cannot be reset. A new one can be obtained from the product manufacturer.
If the power supply cord is damaged, it CANNOT be repaired. It MUST be replaced by one obtained from the product manufacturer.
WARNING Avoid fire hazards or electric shock. Do not use an extension cord or an adaptor plug. Do not remove any prong from the power cord.

Can it be used in a garage?

If your garage has a window or some sort of opening for the dual hose, yes. It can be used. If not, no. For the AC to cool air inside, it needs to pull outside air and expel exhaust through its dual hose. So, without the hose being able to take in outside air and take out exhaust, it is useless.

Does this model work on a 15 amp circuit

The label on the right side of the unit says 11.9 Amps (9 Amps may be for the 12K model). Mine seems to be running fine on a 15A circuit.

How long is the duo hose? Need a good length for basement window installment.

The hose will extend from the top of the unit to a height of about 7.5 to 8 ft. The hose practical length is shorter as it must turn to face the wall. It could probably vent out a wall at about 6 foot height. The hose itself is about 5 feet long.

What is the efficiency rating?

Yes, our units are very reliable. This unit runs 115v and 60Hz, 9 amps, and 1035Watts. Efficiency rating is the BTU Divided by Watts so that shows the Efficiency rating at 13.52. Have a fantastic day! MideaCustomerCare@hartehanks.com (BBB A+ Accredited Business)

Is it really a 12,000 btu sacc-rated unit? I cannot find the specifications on the midea USA website.

The two ratings for this unit reflect two measurements of energy efficiency. 14,000 BTU is the ASHRAE cooling rating. 12,000 BTU is the DOE cooling rating. Have an excellent day! MideaCustomerCare@hartehanks.com (BBB A+ Accredited Business)

Is this a self-evaporating a.c?

This unit uses Midea’s industry-first hose-in-hose design enables the unit to intake and exhaust air outdoors, so it can form a balanced air circulation indoors, effectively preventing hot air from seeping into the room through gaps around doors and windows.
