Congratulations

  • In the seca 233 measuring rod, you have acquired an accurate and at the same time sturdy piece of equipment for measuring the length of babies.
  • The measuring rod serves both to determine the length at birth of a newborn and to check body length during the growth process.
  • It is attached to the following seca baby scales using the assembly material supplied: model 374, 376 and 378.
  • When combined with a scale, the measuring rod serves as a complete measuring station. The measuring rod is manufactured from stable, easy-care aluminium profile. The head and foot supports supplied make measuring convenient and safe.
  • The seca 233 measuring rod with a seca baby scale are for use in hospitals and doctors’ surgeries.

Safety

Before using the new measuring rod, please take a little time to read the following saftey instructions:

  • Follow the operating instructions.

  • Attach the measuring rod only to the seca baby scales listed above.

  • Use only the assembly material supplied.

  • When assembling, ensure that screws are tight and that the rod has been as-sembled correctly (see chapter entitled “Assembly instructions”).

  • The measuring rod is not a handle.
Always take hold of the scale itself if you want to move it.

  • When moving the measuring rod, make sure that the baby’s hands or feet do not get caught.

  • Ensure that the measuring rod and scale are cleaned and disinfected regularly to prevent infectious diseases being trans-mitted.

  • A second person is ideally required to en-able length to be measured exactly.

Assembly instructions

Note: the measuring rod is fitted to the tray in elongated holes to allow the measuring rod to be adjusted exactly and unavoidable production tolerances to be compensated. Place a known reference measure between the head and foot stops and move the bracket on the tray so that the correct length is displayed. In general, however, it is suf-ficient to fit the rod centrally in the elongated holes.

Operating instructions

WARNING: Injury to the baby from a fall. Baby scales are usually placed on elevated work surfaces. If the baby falls from this work surface, he or she may sustain severe, irreversible or fatal injuries.

  • Never leave a baby on the scale unsupervised.
How to measure properly
  1. Place the baby on the weighing tray. The baby’s head must be positioned at the head stop (1) of the tray.
  2. Use your right hand to move the foot support (2) towards the baby’s feet. Rest the baby’s feet on the foot support while doing so. With your left hand keep the baby still on the weighing tray.
  3. Use your left hand to gently press the baby’s knees down towards the weighing tray. With the right hand, push the foot support (2) up to the soles of the baby’s feet.
  4. Read off the length of the baby from the marking on the measuring rule guide (3).
Cleaning

Clean the measuring rod as required using a household cleaner or commercial disinfec-tant, e.g. 70% isopropanol.
