Introduction
A smart radon detector, the Airthings Wave 2nd Generation delivers accurate, long-term findings directly to your smartphone. This digital radon monitor replaces single-use radon test kits and displays measurements via a free mobile app on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis. Make sure radon levels are kept low and use the information to safeguard your house and loved ones from the risks of radon gas. Because it is battery-powered, it may be positioned anywhere in the house without a need for an AC outlet. You may enhance indoor air quality overall by using the additional humidity and temperature sensors that come with the Airthings Wave. Keep an eye on the temperature and humidity levels to promote a healthy indoor environment. If you wave the device in front of the device, a color-coded visual indicator of the overall air quality will appear: Green (Low), Yellow (Warning), and Red. Detailed analytics are available in the Airthings app and Web Dashboard (Danger). The radon monitor is also compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT and has smart home capabilities (if this then that). The second- generation Airthings Wave has the same sensors as the first-generation model, but also incorporates Smartlink technology that enables connection to the Airthings Hub.

This is where air comes into your detector. Audio alarm The device can give you audio alerts if your radon levels are violating the recommended amount.
Wave sensor
Simply wave in front of your detector to activate the glow ring.
Easy to mount
Fix the mounting bracket to the ceiling or wall (optional). Make sure you use an appropriate screw for your wall type. The screw included is intended for wood. Avoid placing your device close to vents or windows (Minimum 1 meter / 3 feet distance).
Thanks to the built-in magnet, simply snap the unit onto the mounted bracket. Then rotate it to the desired position.
Basics of the App
Daily use
Wave in front of your device to see a visual indication of your daily radon levels.
To download measurement data, open the Airthings Wave app when the phone is within Bluetooth range of your device. The app will search for devices and download historical data.
You will be notified if any actions are needed through the app.
The Airthings Wave 2nd Gen also includes Airthings Smartlink which works with the Hub. Refer to the Hub manual for Smartlink info. The Hub provides longer range as well as live updates using Airthings Smartlink.
Integrations
The Airthings Wave shares data to your mobile device as well as the Airthings Dashboard—a free online platform that provides quick access to view, customize and analyze sensor data from multiple Airthings devices. Go to airthings.com/dashboard for more info.

Sensor icons
- Radon – Decrease exposure to this radioactive gas that accumulates in buildings and homes. It is the number one cause of lung cancer among non-smokers but can be managed with continuous monitoring.
- Temperature – Indoor temperatures can affect performance, mood and comfort level. Individual sleep patterns are also affected by indoor air temperature.
- Humidity – Too much or too little humidity can affect allergies and cold or flu symptoms. When humidity levels are high, mold and rot can occur. Low humidity levels cause static electricity, dry skin and hair, and increased susceptibility to colds and respiratory illness.
Troubleshooting
First and foremost, always make sure that you have updated to the latest device software
- In the device settings menu, click update device.
Not able to connect to my device
- Make sure you have the detector within the range of 5 meters or 15 feet.
- Check if Bluetooth is turned on.
- Check if the power indicator is blinking.
Need to turn on the audio alert
- In the app, go to device settings menu and update radon alarm settings.
- Wave in front of the detector to snooze for 1 month when alert is active.
My app is not updated when running in background mode
- Open your phone settings and verify that the Airthings Wave app is running in the background. You can usually find this in the app manager section of your phone settings.
- Make sure you are in Bluetooth range periodically.
No response from glow ring
- Check if the power indicator is blinking.
- If the power indicator is blinking red, or not blinking at all, the battery level is low. First, sync your data and then replace the batteries. We recommend AA alkaline (LR6).

Safety and maintenance
The Airthings Wave is intended for indoor use only. Avoid exposure to direct heat sources. For correct usage, make sure the detector is operating in the specified temperature range (see technical specifications).
Exposure to high humidity might permanently alter the detector sensitivity or damage it.
Do not disassemble. If the detector does not work as specified or you are in doubt, contact your local dealer or visit us at Airthings.com.
Use a dry cloth to clean the detector.
When replacing the batteries, pay attention to the polarity marks. Use AA alkaline (LR6) batteries.
Always snap the mounting bracket to the detector’s rear side to protect the batteries, even when the detector is not permanently mounted.
Disposal: electronic equipment.
Limited liability
The device is tested and quality-assured by production. It meets the accuracy values set out in the specifications.
It is recommended to keep the device constantly activated and the batteries in place until drained.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the instrument expected to last?****
Its design has a long lifespan, in my opinion. But this might not be the right instrument for you if you’re looking for one with guaranteed accuracy. Aerospace engineer by profession (retired), I’m quite happy with the capabilities this device affords me. The idea that I’ll never send this out for calibration makes me at ease. I have a number of instruments lying around the house, including a millimeter, an oscilloscope, a frequency counter, etc., that have never been used in a standards laboratory but yet give me with useful measurements. In my situation, the instrument’s primary function is to track the radon levels in my home. Through comparison measurements with other calibrated equipment, it has demonstrated sufficient accuracy to be useful for my needs. However, your measurements cannot be utilised for any official purposes without that approved and valid calibration label. This will have to do in the absence of an official end-of-life analysis from the manufacturer.
How long does the battery last?****
My own was purchased in January 2016 and is still operational. Since I bought it, it has been running constantly because I have never taken the batteries out.
Can the gadget be reset in a different place and the results erased?****
Yes. A reset button is located on the back of the case.
How long can you use this product?****
I’d guess it would be a very long time. Ours has been in use for less than a year and is still doing nicely.
When the readings are too high, does the monitor have an audible siren?****
Not at all, a. making a model with an alarm sound would be a smart move for the producer.
Can you test objects using this apparatus?****
No, Radon in the air is tested with this instrument.
Is that how it’s intended to function since I have to press down on the screen in order to see the reading?****
The screen does not need to be pushed. The screen will automatically display if your batteries are in good condition. There are now only two flashing bars after a reset (in the back). Daily and long-term values appear after 24 hours. Daily, weekly, and long-term data are displayed after seven days. Unless you wish to relocate it and reset it, you don’t need to touch the device and shouldn’t.
Can two monitors connected to the same app be used in various basement locations?****
Yes, you can connect many devices to a single app. One home can contain a variety of equipment. Even having devices in several homes is possible.
Can this device check the radon content in well water? Who has done it and how?****
This device is used to measure the amount of radon in the air in a basement or room. It has no tools for testing liquids for Radon.
Will this operate with typical NiMH (rechargeable) batteries satisfactorily or will the lower voltage be an issue?****
At Air things, we advise using non-rechargeable alkaline batteries of a reputable brand. You can receive a battery life of up to 2 years using regular AA batteries, and we don’t recommend using rechargeable ones.
