GARDE Tomato Slicers User Manual

Introduction

Please read and comply with the instructions listed on this document. To get the best service life and performance from your machine, clean it thoroughly before and after each use by following the instructions listed below. Minimize the use of alkaline cleaners as they may dull the finish and cause pitting.

Safety Instructions

Be careful when handling and operating the machine, as the blades are very sharp.
Always keep your hands away from the blades.

Preparation
  1. This unit comes fully assembled.
  2. Place the unit on a sturdy work surface.
  3. The guides for the pusher assembly located along the sides of the cutting board need to be lubed regularly to keep your slicer operating smoothly. Using a food grade sanitary lube (such as 401PETROLGEL) will ensure you get a clean slice every time.

Operation

  1. Pull the handle toward you and place a tomato on the slide board between the pusher plates and the blades.
  2. Remove hands and fingers from the cutting area and push the handle toward the blades with one quick motion.
  3. Remove the sliced tomato from the slide board and repeat as necessary.

Cleaning and Maintenance

  1. Remove the thumb screws and the slide stop from the pusher assembly. Pull the pusher off the end of the slide board.
  2. Remove the mounting screws from the slide board and blade shield.
  3. To totally disassemble the pusher assembly, remove the acorn and hex nuts on the top of the stack and carefully remove the pusher plates and spacers. Remove the additional screws if you wish to disassemble the guide plate.
  4. To re-assemble, reverse the procedure.
NOTE: Always rinse the tomato slicer in cold or lukewarm water after it has been washed in hot water.
Hot water makes the slide board expand which may make it difficult to use the pusher assembly until the slide board returns to room temperature.
NOTE: After re-assembly, you must retention the blades.

Blade Tension Instructions

  1. Ensure that the blade holder assembly is firmly mounted on the frame with the sharp side of the blades toward the pusher assembly.
  2. Be sure the hex head screws on the right side of the blade holder are tight.
  3. Tighten the hex head screws on the left end of the blade holder until the blades “hum” when strummed or plucked.
  4. Check the blade tension each time the machine is used.
