Before using any of the above equipment, the operating manual should be read and fully understood.

Infection control

T he Micro+TMpro, baby & basic, piCO+TM Smokerlyzers®, Gastro+TM and ToxCO® monitors have SteriTouch® technology integrated into the monitor housing to ensure optimum infection control. The main function of SteriTouch® technology, an antimicrobial product, is to offer protection against a range of bacteria including E. coli, MRSA, Salmonella and Legionella, as well as black mold growth, biofilm and fungi’.
Washing hands before and after testing is highly recommended for both operator and user as part of a sensible infection control regime.

The Micro+TMpro, baby & basic, piCO+Tm Smokerlyzers®, Gastro+TM and ToxCO® monitors use a SteriBreathTM mouthpiece that connects to the monitor via a D-pieceTM which then connects directly to the monitor. The SteriBreathTm mouth-pieces are approved for single-use ONLY. Re-use increases the risk of cross infection.

The D-piece”” contain a one-way valve to prevent patients drawing air back from the monitor. An integrated infection control filter removes and traps

99% of airborne bacteria and >96% of viruses2.

coVitaTM I Bedfont® recommends that the D-pieceTM is replaced every 30 days or if visibly soiled. The D-piece”” cannot be sterilized as this process may affect the positioning of the valve. It is possible that saliva can build up inside the D-pieceTM if they are not replaced regularly, which may over time affect the valve and efficacy of the filter material.

It is preferable that, where possible, the user attaches their own Steri Breath TM mouthpiece to the D-pieceTM before the breath test, and detaches and disposes of it once the test is complete.

The Gastro CHECK® mouthpieces are specifically designed with integrated filtration to remove: >99% of airborne bacteria, >96% of viruses and any moisture from the patient’s breath. Mouthpieces are single patient use ONLY and can be used for the duration of the study.

Whilst the user is exhaling, the operator should avoid positioning themselves in front of the exhaust port of the instrument.

Routine Maintenance

See the operating manual for full maintenance instructions.
The D-piece”” requires changing at least every 30 days or if visibly soiled.

A reminder will appear on the Micro+Tmpro, baby & basic, piCO+TM, Gastro+TM, and ToxCO® start-up screens every 30 days. Batteries should be replaced when indicated. Rechargeable batteries are to be used with extreme caution as they have higher chances of leaking in devices. All batteries should be removed if the instrument is not likely to be used often.

Calibration

  • It is recommended that only coVitaTM I Bedfonte’ calibration gas is used; failure to do so will void warranty and the unit may give false readings if not calibrated in this manner.

Smoker lyzer®

  • The Micro + Tmpro, baby & basic and piCO+TM monitors must be calibrated with 2Oppm CO in air at least every 6 months. A reminder that calibration is due will be displayed on the instrument start-up screen every 6 months
    Smoker lyzer®

Gastrolyzer®

  • The Gastro+TM must be calibrated with 100ppm H2 in air once every 3 months- an onscreen reminder will display every 3 months.
  • The GastroCH4ECK® must be calibrated with 100ppm H2 & CH4 once a month- an onscreen reminder will display monthly.
    Gastro lyzer®

ToxCO®

  • The ToxCO® must be calibrated with SOppm CO in air, and is recommended every 6 months with an onscreen reminder. Calibration is mandatory at 12 months.

Cleaning

Wipe the external surfaces of the instrument with a product specifically developed for this purpose. coVitam I Bedfont® provides instrument cleansing wipes that contain an antimicrobial liquid that safely cleans your monitors without interfering with the monitors or sensors. It is recommend-ed that wipes are used once and for one surface only. DO NOT oversaturate or allow the wipe liquid to pool in crevices. Wipe off excess liquid.

Never use alcohol or cleaning products containing alcohol or other organic solvents as long term exposure to these vapors will damage the sensor with-in the instrument.
Under no circumstances should the instrument be immersed in or splashed with liquid.
