Important Safety Information

  • This product is only intended for audio entertainment. Do not use the product for any other purpose than described in is manual in order to avoid any hazardous situation. Improper use is dangerous and will void any warranty claim.
  • For household use only. Do not use outdoors.
  • Danger! Excessive sound pressure from earphones and headphones can cause hearing loss. If you listen to loud music for a long time, your hearing may be impaired. Set to a moderate volume.

  • Never pull the adaptor power plug by the supply cord or with wet hands.
  • Disconnect the adaptor power plug in case of faults during use, during lightning storms, before cleaning and when not using the product for a longer period of time.

Basic Operation

  1. Charging the radio

  2. The Portable RR20 Radio comes with a built in 3.7v/1800mAh rechargeable Lithium Battery and is supplied with one USB to micro-USB cable for recharging. Playback approx. 12 hours @ 50% volume when fully charged.
    Note : Before first use, fully charge the radio for best performance.

  3. To charge carefully plug the micro-USB end of the supplied cable into the micro-USB “DC 5V IN” charge input on the right side of the radio. Connect the other USB end to a power source such as a computer USB port or a USB power adapter. (Not included)

  4. The radio will start charging and give a small red charge indication light above the charge input. Charge time could take 2.5 to 3 hours to fully charge the battery. Charging will stop when the radio is fully charged.

  5. The radio can also be used when connected to a USB power source and when switched off will enter a “Standby” mode enabling Alarm settings to function.

  6. Listening to DAB Radio

  7. Press and hold the button to switch the radio on. When your radio is switched on for the first time it will automatically enter the DAB mode and perform a Full Auto Scan.

  8. During the scan, the display will show “Scanning………” together with a progress bar that indicates the progress and the number of stations that have been found so far. Once the scan has finished, the unit will select the first alphanumerically found station.

  9. Rotate the Volume dial to adjust the volume, a quick press of the dial will Mute the volume or Unmute volume.

  10. To search for other stations, press the TUNE / >>I button to enter the station list mode and rotate the volume dial to scroll through the station list. When you find a station that you want to listen to, press the dial to confirm that station selection.
    NOTE : If no DAB stations are found after auto scan the unit will enter the Tune Select Menu. Try changing the location of the radio and extend or adjust or the antenna. Rotate the dial to select “Full Scan” or “Manual Scan” and rescan.

  11. To repeat an Auto Scan press and hold MENU/SCAN button until the display shows “Scanning ………” together with a progress bar that indicates the progress of the scan and the number stations that have been found so far.
    DAB Auto Scan : A full auto scan will search the entire DAB Band for all available stations.

  12. DAB Manual Tune
    As well as Auto Scan, Radio Station Frequencies can be manually selected. You can manually tune to a particular channel/frequency, and you will need to know the missing radio station Frequency to complete a Manual tune.

  13. Quick press the MENU/SCAN button to enter Station scan mode and then press the dial to confirm, rotate the dial to select “Manual tune” mode and then press to confirm.

  14. Rotate the dial to cycle through the DAB Channels/Frequencies, which number from 5A to13F.

  15. After your desired channel number is selected, press the dial to enter the current multiplex, it will now display the multiplex and below you will see the signal strength.
    Note : You will not see any new radio stations or hear anything while in manual tune. To find the newly tuned station search through the station list.

  16. Listening FM Radio
    Press and hold the button to switch the radio on then quick press the button to select the FM mode.

  17. Press and hold the “MENU/SCAN” button to enter auto scan and preset mode, During the scan mode the display will show “Scanning……” and then It will pre-set all the stations which were found during the auto scan.

  18. Once the scan has finished, the unit will select the first alphanumerically found station.

  19. Rotate the Volume dial to adjust the volume, a quick press of the dial will Mute the volume or Unmute volume.

  20. To search for other found stations, press the “PRESET” button and rotate the dial to scroll through the saved station list. When you find a station that you would like to listen to, press the dial to confirm the new station selection

  21. Preset Memory Setting

  22. To preset a station In DAB or FM mode, press and hold the PRESET button until “Preset Store” appears in the display. Rotate the dial to select the desired preset position/number and press the dial to save the station to that preset position/number. “Preset (and the selected number) Stored” will appear in the display.

  23. Quick Preset buttons 1-5: To preset a station to a quick present button 1-5, press and hold the PRESET button until “Preset Store” appears in the display then press and hold the chosen quick preset button 1-5 until “Preset (and the selected number) Stored” appears in the display.
    Preset Recall Setting

  24. To Recall a preset station Quick press the PRESET button to enter Preset Recall mode and rotate the dial to select desired saved station and press the dial to recall / play that station.

  25. To Recall a Quick preset position 1-5 just press the desired saved number to play the saved station.

  26. Bluetooth Playback
    Make sure your Bluetooth smart device is near the radio. The maximum Bluetooth working distance is 10 meters from the radio but different environments like internal walls will reduce the working distance.

  27. Press and hold the button to switch the radio on then quick press the button until you select BLUETOOTH mode and (“Bluetooth” will flash on the Radio display

  28. On your smart device go to Bluetooth and make sure Bluetooth is turned on, Search My Devices and select ”PORTABLE RR20” to pair to the radio.

  29. Rotate the Volume dial on the radio to adjust the volume, a quick press of the dial will Pause Bluetooth playback or restart Playback. You may need to also adjust the volume from your smart device.

  30. Press TUNE/>>I button to Skip forward tracks and press I<< button to skip back tracks.
    Note : To Disconnect your smart device press and hold the volume dial.

  31. Playback from a USB stick

  32. Plug the USB memory stick into the USB input on the right of the unit.

  33. Press and hold the button to switch the radio on then quick press the button until you select “USB” mode in the display and then “Reading…….” will appear below.

  34. Rotate the Volume dial on the radio to adjust the volume, a quick press of the dial will Pause playback or restart Playback.

  35. Press TUNE/>>I button to Skip forward tracks and press I<< button to skip back tracks.

  36. Playback from AUX IN

  37. Plug the 3.5mm aux audio cable into the “AUX IN” input on the right side of the unit (audio cable not included)

  38. Press and hold the button to switch the radio on then quick press the button until you select “LINE IN” mode in the display.

  39. Rotate the Volume dial to adjust the volume, a quick press of the dial will Mute the volume or Un-mute volume.

  40. Alarm Settings
    Note : Alarm functions will not work on battery power, the Radio must be connected to USB power source for Alarms to function. The Portable RR20 radio has 2 alarm functions for 2 diferent alarm settings (Alarm 1 and Alarm 2) Once an alarm is activated you will find the alarm icon in the display. Alarm setup

  41. Press and hold the button to switch the radio on, then quick press the MENU/SCAN button and then rotate the volume dial until you see “SYSTEM” in the display and then press the dial to select, rotate the dial until you see “Alarms” in the display and press the dial to select.

  42. Rotate the dial to select “Alarm1” or “Alarm2” and press the dial to confirm.

  43. Rotate the dial to select “Time” and press the dial to confirm. Rotate the dial to adjust the hours and press the dial to confirm, rotate the dial to adjust the minutes and press the dial to confirm.

  44. Rotate the dial to select “Days” and press to confirm, rotate the dial to select: Daily, Once, Weekdays or Weekends and press to confirm

  45. Rotate the dial to select “Mode” and press to confirm, rotate the dial to select: DAB, FM or Buzzer and press to confirm.

  46. Rotate the dial to select “Volume” and rotate the dial to select the alarm wake up volume and press the dial to confirm.

  47. Rotate the dial to select “Last Listened” or “Preset” to select a preset station and press the dial to confirm.

  48. Rotate the dial to “Save” and press the dial to save the alarm setting “Alarm1” will be displayed along with the alarm status “Off or On” press the dial to access alarm status and press again to change the alarm status by rotating the dial to select “On or Off” and press to confirm.

  49. To check the alarm detail and status press and hold the DIMMER/ALARM button until you see “Alarm1” in the display, rotating the dial will step through the saved alarm settings when the radio is switched on.

  50. Sleep Mode Setting
    The Sleep function works in any mode the Radio is being used in

  51. With the radio switched on, press the “SLEEP” button to active the Sleep function then press the “SLEEP” button again to choose the desired Sleep time 15 / 30 / 45 / 60 / 75 / 90

  52. The unit will power off after the sleep time selected is reached.

  53. Backlight Settings

  54. Press the DIMMER/ALARM button to adjust the backlight level between High-Medium-Low or off.

  55. You can also adjust the backlight in the main menu, quick press the MENU/SCAN button and rotate the volume dial until you see “SYSTEM” in the display then press the dial to select. Rotate the dial again until you see “BACKLIGHT” in the display and press the dial to select. Here you can rotate the dial to select backlight “Time out” or “On Level” settings. The Time Out options are “On” or a selection between 10 to 180 seconds. On level options are High, Medium or Low.

  56. Factory Reset
    If you experience any issues with your radio a factory reset can restore byour radio’s software.
    To complete a factory reset:

  57. Press and hold the button to switch the radio on, then quick press the MENU/SCAN button and then rotate the volume dial until you see “SYSTEM” in the display and then press the dial to select, rotate the dial until you see “Factory reset” in the display and press the dial to select. Rotate the dial to select “Yes” and press the dial to confirm.

The radio will then complete a Factory reset and commence a new DAB Auto scan.

Troubleshooting

PROBLEM SOLUTION

FM Hiss / DAB Burbling / Intermittent| Usually due to low signal strength. Check / move antenna.

Move radio. Rescan local (high-strength) stations only. (For DAB, check local coverage at www.digitalradioplus.com.au “Can I Get DAB+ Digital Radio’ then rescan stations).

Error Messages

Signal error| The DAB signal bas been interrupted.
No DAB Station| The listed station cannot be found.
(No Name)| The current station does not broadcast an identity name.
No stations found| No DAB stations are available – check aerial.

No Radio Text| No RDS text information is available on this station.
No PTY| No RDS programme type information is available.
No Name| No RDS station name is being broadcast.

THE ENCLOSED TERMS AND CONDITIONS RELATE TO THE WARRANTY PROVIDED BY RICHTER AUDIO PTY LTD (“Richter Audio”) (ABN 22 613 067 815) products purchased within Australia. This warranty applies for a period of 1 Year (12 months) from the date of purchase (“Warranty Period”

GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF STANDARD WARRANTY

  1. Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

  2.  The benefits to the consumer given by this Warranty are in addition to other rights and remedies of the consumer under a law in relation to goods or services to which the warranty relates, being the Australian Consumer Law.

  3. Subject to Clause 1 above and the terms below, as your Standard Warranty, Richter Audio agrees to repair or replace at cost the Richter product, and any accessory supplied with the product, purchased by you in Australia when the product does not perform in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications during the Warranty period.

  4. To make a claim under the Standard Warranty you will need to:

  6. Refund or replacement via your Richter Audio’s Authorised Retailer is available for a period of 14 days after purchase for goods that have been inspected and determined to have a major failure. Refund and exchange is not applicable if you change your mind after purchase.

  7. Note that you will need to submit proof of purchase (e.g. delivery invoice, invoice or purchase receipt) with your claim.

  8. Products presented for repair may be replaced by refurbished products of the same type rather than being repaired. Refurbished parts may be used to repair the products. Replacement of the product or a part does not extend or restart the Warranty Period.

  9. If the product presented for repair is capable of retaining user-generated data, you are advised that repair of the product may result in loss of the data. Richter Audio shall not be held responsible for any loss of such data as a consequence of fault-find or repair process.

  10. The product will be at the owner’s risk whilst in transit to and from the Richter Audio Service Centre, unless transported by Richter Audio or 3rd party transport booked by Richter Audio.

  11. Richter Audio will bear the expense of transport where transported by Richter Audio. Any other expense of claiming the warranty will be covered by the owner of the goods.

  12. Richter Audio may seek reimbursement of any costs incurred by them when the product is found to be in good working order. The owner of the goods will cover any return transport cost.

  13. Products returned to Richter Audio by a courier and are damaged in transit by insufficient packing will be quoted and the cost of the repair will be covered by the owner of the goods.
    EXCLUSIONS AND LIMITATIONS

  14. Subject always to Clause 1 the Standard Warranty will not apply:

  15. if the product has not been installed, operated, maintained or used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions or specifications provided with the product.

  16. to damage, malfunction or failure resulting from alterations, accident, misuse, abuse, fire, liquid spillage, mis-adjustment of customer controls, use on an incorrect voltage, power surges and dips, thunderstorm activity, acts of God, voltage supply problems, tampering or unauthorised repairs by any persons, use of defective or incompatible accessories, the operation of a computer virus of any kind, exposure to abnormally corrosive conditions or entry by any insect, vermin or foreign object in the product.

  17. to damage arising during transportation, installation or while moving the product, or to any transportation costs of the product or any parts thereof to and from the owner, unless otherwise specified in this Warranty.

  18. to any third-party software or hardware not contained in the product as originally configured by the manufacturer.

  19. to any failure, to the extent that the failure is not a failure of the product to perform in accordance with its specifications.
