DJO Aircast Extra Pneumatic XP Walker

BEFORE USING THE DEVICE, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS COMPLETELY AND CAREFULLY. CORRECT APPLICATION IS VITAL TO THE PROPER FUNCTIONING OF THE DEVICE.

INTENDED USER PROFILE:

The intended user should be a licensed medical professional, the patient or the patient’s caregiver. The user should be able to read, understand and be physically capable of performing the directions, warnings and cautions in the information for use

INTENDED USE/INDICATIONS:

The Aircars XP Walker (Extra Pneumatic) provides support and immobilization to the lower leg, ankle and foot. It may be suitable for use following stable ankle and/or foot fractures and severe lateral ankle sprains. Providing immobilization or controlled movement of the limb or body segment.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

This device is contraindicated for unstable fractures of the lower leg, ankle and foot

WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS:

• This device is to be used under the supervision of a healthcare professional. The determination of when to apply the brace and the frequency and duration of use should be strictly at the discretion of the treating physician. Always consult with your physician before making changes to the brace.
• Do not use this device on patient’s incapable of communicating physical discomfort.
• Do not over-inflate aircells. Improper aircell inflation may cause significant skin irritation, especially in people with diabetic neuropathy. Reduce aircell pressure with any visual skin changes or reported discomfort.
• Patient’s without sensation (i.e. post-op anesthesia, neuropathies, etc.) should be monitored frequently for skin damage, skin irritation or wound management.
• Use caution when walking on slippery or wet surfaces to avoid injury.
• Do not use over open wounds.
• Do not over tighten straps. This may result in reduction of blood flow or sensation.
• Do not modify the device or use the device other than intended.
• At high altitudes the aircells will expand beyond their optimal level. Adjust aircell support by tightening or loosening straps.
• If you develop an allergic reaction and/or experience itchy, red skin after coming into contact with any part of this device, please stop using it and contact your healthcare professional immediately.
• Do not use this device if it is damaged and/or the packaging has been opened.
• If pain, swelling, changes in sensation or other unusual reactions occur while using this product, consult your medical professional immediately.
  NOTE: Contact manufacturer and competent authority in case of a serious incident arising due to usage of this device.

APPLICATION INFORMATION:

PREPARE BRACE

Unfasten straps, remove front panel, and open toe cover and foot flaps.

APPLY BRACE

Put on sock included with brace. While seated, place leg in brace and seat heel against back. Wrap foot flaps over foot and toe cover around toes (Fig. 1). Secure front panel with lower part inside brace, and upper part outside brace (Fig. 2). Secure straps from bottom to top (Fig. 3). Tighten until snug and comfortable.

ADJUST AIRCELL SUPPORT

Pneumatic Walker Aircel’s are initially deflated. To inflate, firmly insert “inflate” tip of hand bulb into brace valve. Cover hand bulb pressure-relief valve with finger of other hand (Fig. 4). Squeeze hand bulb several times until Aircel is snug. With hand bulb still in brace valve, lift finger from pressure-relief valve for 3 to 5 seconds, then withdraw hand bulb. For higher pressure, remove bulb sooner.

In the case of over inflation, firmly insert “deflate” tip of hand bulb into brace valve and squeeze several times until desired compression is reached. After initial inflation, pressure can be adjusted by tightening or loosening straps.

NOTE: The brace is more comfortable when pressure is higher in distal Aircel’s than proximal. Higher pressure in Aircel’s provides more support when walking. Lower pressure is more comfortable when sitting or reclining

WARRANTY:

DJO, LLC will repair or replace all or part of the unit and its accessories for material or workmanship defects for a period of six months from the date of sale. To the extent the terms of this warranty are inconsistent with local regulations, the provisions of such local regulations will apply.

USE AND CARE: The foam liner may be hand-washed in cold water with mild detergent and air-dried.
