Unpacking

Every Tannoy product and accessory is carefully inspected before packing. After unpacking, please inspect your product to make sure no damage has occurred in transit. In the unlikely event of any damage, would you please notify your dealer immediately and retain your shipping carton, as your dealer may ask you to return the faulty unit to them for inspection.

Additional Safety Notices

WARNING : Before installing the loudspeaker, please consult the relevant construction codes in your region.
WARNING : When using a power driver to install the product it is essential to use the correct torque level settings to avoid over tightening and damage to the wall material.

WARNING : In order to comply with the relevant fire safety regulations (ie. BS 5839: 1998), it is required that in the event of fire, that failure of the circuit to which the loudspeaker is connected does not occur before evacuation of the building is complete. Suitable measures include: – a) use of terminal blocks (for connection to primary) with a melting point of not less than 650°C, for example constructed from ceramic materials; b) use of terminal blocks of a lower melting point but protected with thermal insulation; c) use of terminal blocks such that, on melting, an open-circuit or a short-circuit does not occur.

WARNING : Some regional construction codes require the use of a secondary method of securing loudspeakers to provide security of a backup support. The secondary safety suspension must be independent of the primary suspension points and capable of carrying the total system weight. The additional safety device must be mounted in a way that the loudspeaker is caught by the safety device without any drop and swing in the event that the primary suspension fails. Please consult the relevant construction codes in your region.
Tannoy will not be held responsible for any damages caused by the improper installation of these loudspeakers.

Wiring and Setting Up

Installation

  • WARNING: To avoid potential damage to your speaker, ensure that the amplifier is switched OFF prior to connecting or disconnecting any cables.
  • WARNING: Some regional construction codes require the use of a secondary method of securing speakers to provide security of a backup support. The secondary safety suspension must be independent of the primary suspension points and capable of carrying the total system weight. The additional safety device must be mounted in a way that the speaker is caught by the safety device without any drop and swing in the event that the primary suspension fails. Please consult the relevant construction codes in your region.
1. The procedure below describes the installation of the speaker into a typical stud wall or ceiling with drywall/plasterboard.
2. The mounting bracket and wiring can be preinstalled, and the speaker assembly added and wired to the Euroblock connector, at a later stage.
3. Locate a suitable mounting position for the speaker, using a stud-finder.

WARNING: Make sure that there are no power lines, other cables, or plumbing such as water, sewer, gas lines in the chosen location.

4. Run the speaker wire from your amplifier to this location, leaving enough slack to allow for the connections.
5. Remove the yoke bracket from the speaker, by undoing the two thumb screws.
6. Remove the rear cover from the speaker, to expose the Euroblock terminals and transformer tap switch.
7. If the yoke bracket is to be mounted to a stud, then the screws must be long enough to enter into the wood and make a secure and safe mounting position. Consult the relevant construction codes in your region.
8. If the yoke bracket is to be mounted to drywall or a solid masonary wall, then suitable screws and wall plugs must be used to make a secure and safe mounting position. Consult the relevant construction codes in your region.
9. Secure the mounting bracket in place using screws. Check that the bracket is truely level, vertically or horizontally.
10. Follow the information on the next pages to connect the speaker wires to the Euroblock connector. Make sure to check that the polarity is correct and that the positive and negative wires are securely and correctly connected.
11. Fit the rear cover in place on the speaker, and carefully align the speaker with the yoke bracket, and add the two thumb screws to hold it in position. Adjust the angle of the speaker before finally tightening it in position.
12. Add and check the secondary safety suspension.
13. Thoroughly test the speaker operation with your sound system.

Terminal Connections

WARNING: To avoid potential damage to your speaker, ensure that the amplifier is switched OFF prior to connecting or disconnecting any cables.
WARNING: Before switching the amplifier ON, double check that all connections are secure and that the polarity is correct.

  1. Pull out the rear wiring cover to access the removeable Euroblock connector plug and socket.

  2.  The speakers come with a standard speaker cable gland for EN54-24 applications. Feed the cable through and attach to the Euroblock connector. Allow enough slack wire, and tighten the cable gland.

  3. For speaker-level input connections, use Pins 1 and 2 and make sure that the wiring polarity is correct, where:
    Pin 1 is positive
    Pin 2 is negative

  4. For connection to additional speakers in a distributed line, use Pins 3 and 4 to loop thru to additional speakers. Make sure that the wiring polarity is correct, where:
    Pin 3 is positive
    Pin 4 is negative

  5. Strip off approximately 8 mm (¼”) of the outer protective layer of one conductor and twist its inner cores together to prevent shorting from stray wires. Insert and secure to the Euroblock connector, while ensuring that correct polarity is maintained. Repeat this for all speaker wires. Gently pull on the wires to verify they are making a secure connection to the Euroblock connector(s).

  6. Plug in the Euroblock connector to the speaker.

  7. The speaker is fitted with a multi-tap transformer for use in distributed-line systems. Check your system design and amplifier output to match the Wattage required from each speaker. Select the desired Wattage tap before replacing the rear cover.
CAUTION: the speaker is supplied with the transformer tap switch set in low impedance mode (LOZ). Never connect the speaker to a 70/100 volt amplifier while the speaker is set for low impedance. Always check that the transformer switch is set correctly before use.
Typical connections of speakers in a 70V/100V distributed system

  8.  Select the LOZ tap for use in stereo systems. The average impedance of each speaker in this range is 8 Ohms.
Typical connections of two speakers in a stereo system.
