Product Usage Instructions

Uncrating:

  1. Remove the lid of the crate and set it aside.
  2. Remove the front wall.
  3. Remove the foam packs holding the cart in place.
  4. Stack the front wall and lid of the crate to create a small ramp to wheel the hybrid power cart out of the crate.

Electrical Safety:

Electrical Warning:

  • Do not short circuit, crush, disassemble, or expose the batteries to flame.
  • When removing batteries for maintenance, be cautious of tools touching battery terminals simultaneously to avoid short circuits, sparks, and heat.
  • Replace any batteries that have been shorted to prevent damage to other batteries.
  • If performing a partial battery replacement, charge all batteries independently to ensure they are at the same level of charge to prevent damage or hazards like acid leaks or fire.

Jump Start Operation:

  • Using the Jump Start Cart:
1. Check voltage by pressing and holding the small silver button to power the voltage displays.
2. If voltage falls within the aircraft’s acceptable range, connect the jump start cable to the appropriate plug and then to the aircraft.
3. Be careful with stiff cable plugs; wiggle connectors slightly for easier connection and disconnection. Pull plugs by their connectors, not cords, to avoid damage.
4. Follow the aircraft’s Pilot Operator Handbook instructions for completing the Jump Start operation with ground power connected.

Continuous Operation:

  • Providing Continuous Power Supply:
    • The unit can supply 28 Volt power at up to 27 (or 56) amps when connected to wall power without exceeding the current limit.
    • If planning to use systems drawing more amperage than the GPU output, refer to Bus Tie Operation instructions for additional current supply.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

  • Q: What should I do if I encounter a shorted battery?
A: Immediately replace any batteries that have been shorted to prevent damage to other batteries in the unit.

  • Q: How do I connect the jump start cable to the aircraft?
A: Check the voltage range, connect the jump start cable to the appropriate plug, and follow the instructions in the aircraft’s Pilot Operator Handbook while ensuring ground power is connected.

  • Q: What happens if I exceed the current limit during continuous operation?
A: The unit has a thermal cut off that will lower the GPU output if the current limit is exceeded for too long. Consider using Bus Tie Operation for additional current supply if needed.

Uncrating

Congratulations on the purchase of your Hybrid Power Cart, to start off with let’s get your new unit out of the crate!
Any Screws you need to remove will be marked with Red paint.Best-

Electrical Safety

Electrical Warning
This unit is powered by a 24 Volt 330 cca, 660 cca, or 1000 cca system. This is enough to cause damage to persons and components incorrectly connected to the power cart. DO NOT short circuit, crush, disassemble or expose the batteries to flame.

  • When removing batteries for maintenance be aware of the tools you’re using and where they may touch. Touching more than one battery terminal at a time can cause short, sparks, and heat.
  • Any batteries that have been shorted should be replaced immediately or they risk damaging the other batteries in the unit.
  • When performing a partial replacement of the batteries all batteries should be charged independently to ensure they are at the same level of charge. Failure to do this can lead to damage to the batteries and in severe cases acid leaks, or fire.

Jump Start Operation

The Jump Start cart can be used on it’s own or in tandem with Best Power- Continuous power units, see pg. 5 for details on Bus-Tie operation.
To use the jump start cart first check the voltage by pressing and holding the small silver button to power the voltage displays. If the voltage falls within the acceptable range for the aircraft as stated in the POH connect the jump start cable to the 12 or 24 volt plug (as needed) and to the aircraft. It’s normal for the cable plugs to be very stiff, wiggling the connector slightly will help when connecting and disconnecting. Pull plugs by their connector, not by the cords. Pulling by the cord may damage the aircraft cord, aircraft, or start pack. With ground power connected follow the steps listed in the aircraft POH to complete the Jump Start.Best-Tugs-v61224-2-Portable-Hybrid-

Continuous Operation

The continuous power supply can provide 28 Volt power at up to 27 (or 56)* amps as long as the unit is connected to wall power & not over current. This unit has a thermal cut off which will lower the GPU output if the current limit is exceeded for too long. If you expect to run systems that collectively draw more amperage than the GPU can output use the Bus Tie Operation to supply additional current (Pg. 5).

*Refer to your order, or inspect the label on the power supply for details on the rated output of the continuous power unit.
Connect the continuous power pack to wall power then connect the aircraft power cable to the continuous power pack, and the aircraft. With both cables connected turn the master power switch on. The output monitor should illuminate indicating Voltage, Current, Power in watts, and total output in Watt Hours.

Follow the instructions in your POH to continue connecting the Continuous GPU to your aircraft. Best-Tugs-v61224-2-Portable-Hybrid-GPU-

Bus-Tie Operation

  • The continuous power supply can be attached to the Jump Start Cart in order to use the Boost feature; Increasing the time high current electrical systems can be run for.
  • Connect the included jumper to the top and bottom box via the highlighted red Anderson connec-tors. Connect AC power to the continuous power box, then press the Bus Tie button to engage the 2 hour connection timer.
  • Two Continuous Power Packs can be connected to the Jump Start Cart and run in parallel for additional amperage* output. When running multiple Continuous power packs each must be supplied with it’s own 20 amp service.
  • When operating the unit in Bus Tie mode, use the jump-start panel to supply the aircraft with power. Attempting to run bus tie power to the aircraft through the continuous power panel will damage the power cart.Best-Tugs-v61224-2-Portable-Hybrid-GPU- \(8\)

Bluetooth

This GPU comes with a Bluetooth shunt giving it the ability to communicate directly with your smartphone or tablet. Download the Victron Connect* app. The app will allow you to monitor the status of the batteries, charge state, current amp draw, total amp draw & more. This can be useful when operating in bus tie mode as it allows you to monitor battery voltage remotely.

Charging

It’s important to charge the batteries between uses to ensure their longevity and get the best perfor-mance out of them. The charger provided has two charging banks in order to keep the 12 and 24 volt battery banks in peak condition. When charging the batteries both banks should be set to 12V AGM. Using other charging modes can damage the batteries reducing their lifespan & usability.
Each LED charge bar indicates 25% charge. The final LED will turn green when the batteries are full, then it will start to pulse slowly indicating it’s entered a float charge state, this will keep the batter-ies topped off while the charger remains plugged in. The charger can remain connected indefinitely between uses.
Power carts are available in 35 amp hour (330 CCA), 70 amp hour (660 CCA), and 105 amp hour (1000 CCA).Best-Tugs-v61224-2-Portable-Hybrid-GPU-

Changing Batteries

When changing batteries be aware of the tools used to remove the termination hardware. Allowing a tool to contact more than one battery post or one battery post and another electrical point can cause a short resulting in possible burns or other harm.
When removing the batteries using electrical tape to insulate the wire terminals can help protect against shorts.

The batteries are located underneath the charger mounting plate. Remove the two phillips screws on both front corners to lift the tray out.

Removing the batteries can be done one bank at a time, starting with the ground, proceeding to the 12 volt terminal and ending on the 24 volt terminal. Blue numbers are visible next to each terminal, this is the removal order for the battery terminals. Follow the numbers in reverse for installing terminals.

The batteries in this unit are:Best-Tugs-v61224-2-Portable-Hybrid-GPU-
