Get Started
Let’s get started with your moto tag. It helps keep track of and find
important items using Google’s Find My Device network.
First Look
Your moto tag features a button on the front, a battery cover, and a buzzer
hole on the back.
Size
The moto tag has a diameter of 1.26 inches and a height of 0.31 inch.
Battery
The moto tag comes with a user-replaceable CR2032 coin cell battery pre-
installed.
Use a Tag Case
You can use a tag case to attach the moto tag to keys, wallets, bags, or
electronic devices. Ensure the case is open on both sides for button and
buzzer functionality.
Button Functions
The button on the moto tag has various functions like stopping buzzer
ringing, initiating Google Fast Pair, playing sounds on a paired phone,
resetting the tag, and more.
Pair and Connect
- Pull out the protective film from the battery cover to power up the tag.
- Hold your phone close to the tag, ensure it’s awake and unlocked, and turn on Bluetooth on your phone.
- A pop-up window will appear on your phone for pairing and connecting the moto tag.
FAQ
How do I replace the battery?
To replace the battery, follow these steps:
- Open the battery cover on the back of the moto tag.
- Remove the old CR2032 coin cell battery.
- Insert a new CR2032 coin cell battery with the correct polarity (+/-).
- Close the battery cover securely.
First look
Let’s get started. We’ll take you on a tour to explore your moto tag. Your
moto tag helps keep track of and find the items that matter most using the
Google’s Find My Device network. Note: Product images are for illustration
purposes only and may differ from the actual product.
Use a tag case
Each moto tag seamlessly accommodates third-party accessories. You can use a
tag case to attach it to your belongings such as keys, wallets, bags, and
electronic devices. It is recommended that you use a tag case that is open on
both sides so that it will not affect the use of the button or volume of the
buzzer.
Button functions
Button | Function |

Press once. | Stop buzzer ringing or initiate Google Fast Pair when the tag is |

Press twice.| Play a sound on a paired phone. To turn on this function, see
Use **Moto Tag app.
Press once and then immediately press and hold for 5 seconds until you hear a
beep. You will hear another beep when reset is complete.| Reset the tag. See
Unpair and ****reset**.
Press three times and then press and hold for 20 seconds.| Stop connection.
For example, when you find an unknown tag is trying to connect to your phone,
you can do so to stop the connection.
Press and hold for 10 seconds, release the button as you hear a beep, and then
press once.| Display the identification information of the tag on your phone
when you find an unknown tag.
Pair and connect
You can quickly pair your moto tag with smartphones and tablets running Android 9 or later. In this guide, we will use an Android 14 Motorola phone to demonstrate. Pull out the protective film from battery cover. You will hear a beep indicating the tag is powered up.

1 Hold your phone close to the tag. Make sure your phone is awake and unlocked. Note: Full access to Google Fast Pair requires a device that has been set up with a Google account.

Turn on Bluetooth on your phone.Tip: To turn on Bluetooth on a Motorola phone, swipe the status bar down and tap Bluetooth. Then a pop-up window will appear

Pairing notification stops popping up to learn more.Tap Connect on the pop-up window and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the connection and download the Moto Tag app and the Find Device app.
Use the tagBasic
infoFind it: Open the Find Device app on the paired phone, select your tag from the device list, and tap
- Device name: Tap to rename your tag.
- Category: Choose from Bag, Bike, Camera, etc. to categorise your tag by the object it is attached to.
- ring volume: Set the ring volume to Factory default, High, Medium, or Low.
- Find your tagYour moto tag uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and ultra wideband (UWB) technology that allow your phone to find it when it’s nearby. It also leverages Google’s Find My Device network, which locates your tag remotely around the world when it’s lost. Note: For UWB availability, see Ultra Wideband information.
- Find it: Open the Find Device app on the paired phone and select your tag from the device list
- If the tag is nearby, its current location will be displayed on the map.
- Tap Find nearby and your phone will tell you if you are closer to or further away from the tag.
- Tap Play sound and the tag will play a ringtone to help you locate it. Tap again to stop ringing. See Basic info for how to change the ring volume.
- If the tag cannot be located, the map will show the location where itwas last seen.
- Tap Get directions to open up Google Maps.
- Tap Mark as lost and you will be notified if the Find My Device network locates it. Tap Add contact info to add a message, your phone number, or email address, so that anyone who finds the tag can contact you.

Share your tag
You can allow someone that you trust to view the location of the tag.Open the Find Device app on the paired phone. Select your tag from the device list. Tap Share device or > Share device. Tap Continue and a sharing link is generated. You can send the link through any messaging app.Tip: To stop sharing, open the Find Device app on the paired phone, select your tag from the device list, tap , and next to the person you want to stop sharing, tap > Stop sharing.
Find My Device
settingsAndroid devices participate in Google’s Find My Device network use Bluetooth to scan for nearby items (for example, your tag). If they detect your tag, they securely send the location where they detected the tag to Find My Device. Your Android device does the same to help others find their lost items when it detects them nearby .Find it: On your phone, open Settings > Google > Find My DeviceTap the switch next to Use Find My Device to turn it on so that you can use the Find My Device network to find your devices.
- Find My Device app: open the app to find your device.
- Find My Device web: open the web browser to find your device.

Explore with your tag
Adding to the basic functions of Find My Device, the Moto Tag app offers more creative use of your moto tag.

Tip: On some Motorola phones, you may also get the app by swiping up — Use the tag I 8 — from the home screen and tapping Settings > Connected devices > Settings next to moto tag > Install companion app.
Use Moto Tag
appOnce the tag is paired and connected with your Android device (see Pair and connect), you can use the Moto Tag app to view detailed battery levels, play sound, update the firmware, and more .
- Find it: From your Android device, tap Moto Tag and select a tag from the device
- listNote: Your screen may look different.
- Battery: You can view the battery level of the tag. When the battery is very low, you will hear a special ringtone and some functions will be disabled. Replace the battery before the tag stops working.
- Play sound: Tap Play sound and the tag will play a ringtone to help you locate it. Tap again to stop ringing. See Basic info for how to change the ring volume.
- Use your tag to locate your phone: Tap More and turn on the switch next to Using the tag button to locate your phone. You can press the tag button twice to play a sound on your phone.
- Update the firmware : Tap More > Firmware to check the firmware version of your tag. If a new version is available, tap Download and install to update.
- Find My Device: Tap Find My Device to open the Find Device app. See Find Your Tag.
Troubleshoot your tag
Unpair and resetIf your tag is unresponsive, you can unpair the tag with your Google Account and reset it.
- Open the Find Device app on your phone.
- Select your tag from the device list.
- Tap > Remove from Find My Device > Remove.
- Reset the tag by pressing the button once and then immediately pressing and holding it for 5 seconds until you hear a beep. You will hear another beep when reset is complete.
Pairing notification stops popping up
During pairing process, if you dismiss the pop-up notification twice, it won’t pop up again in 5 minutes or longer. If it doesn’t reappear after 5 minutes, reset the tag by pressing the button on the tag once and then immediately pressing and holding it for 5 seconds until you hear a beep. You will hear another beep when reset is complete.
Replace the battery
Follow steps below to replace the battery. You can also find instruction
videos at motorola.com/mymototag.
Note: Do not insert a pin into the buzzer hole.
- Press hard on the battery cover and turn counter-clockwise until dot A is aligned with dot C to remove the cover.
- Remove the battery and insert a CR2032 battery with the positive side (+) up.
- Put the cover back and rotate clockwise while pushing, until dot B is aligned with dot C.

Use & care
- Don’t use your product in temperatures below -20°C (-4°F) or above 45°C (113°F). Don’t store/transport your product in temperatures below -20°C (-4°F) or above 70°C (158°F).

- To clean your product, use a dry, soft cloth.
About water, splash, and dust resistance
Tested under controlled laboratory conditions, the product is water, splash and dust resistant to a rating of IP67 rating (IEC 60529) and can be submerged up to 1 meter in still, fresh water for up to 30 minutes. It is designed to provide protection against the ingress of solid foreign objects of size bigger than 1 millimeter. However, the product is not completely waterproof or dust proof. Avoid exposing the product to pressurised water, salt water or liquids other than fresh water, and do not intentionally submerge it in any liquid or attempt to operate it underwater. Water, splash, and dust resistance are not permanent, and the protection performance may continue to decline due to daily use.To prevent water damage to the product:
- Do not expose the product to pressurised water, salt water or liquids other than fresh water.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to water, and do not intentionally submerge in water.
- Dry the product thoroughly with a soft, clean cloth.
- Do not drop, puncture, or scratch your product, as this could damage the water resistant features.
Ultra Wideband information
Ultra Wideband (UWB) features require a paired UWB supported device. UWB availability varies by region. When use of UWB is prohibited in your region, swipe up from the home screen of your paired phone, tap Settings > , then type UWB, and find the switch to turn it off.In the US, UWB devices may not be employed for the operation of toys. Operation onboard an aircraft, a ship or a satellite is prohibited.
