Microchip Implantation Guide

  1. Identify the microchip implantation site: left side of neck halfway between poll and withers, in nuchal ligament, and approximately 1.0 to 2.0 inches below mane line, depending on age and body condition.

  2. Scan the implantation site and surrounding area with the Global Pocket Reader™ Plus (GPR+), the HomeAgain® Universal WorldScan Reader Plus  (UWSR+) or another universal microchip reader to ensure horse has not been previously microchipped.

  3. Scan the microchip in the package to ensure proper reading and to verify that number scanned matches the one printed on the bar code labels.

  4. Clean and aseptically prepare site for implantation.

  5. Remove the safety lock on the base of the plunger (white lock) and then remove the needle cap. Insert the needle up to its base like an intramuscular injection, and depress plunger. Apply light pressure to the implantation site when removing the delivery device to minimize any bleeding.
Properly dispose of needle and syringe.

  6. Rescan the microchip to ensure proper implantation. Affix bar code label to horse’s records and retain the code for future reference.

  7. Record the microchip number with appropriate breed association and your preferred database. We recommend registering with HomeAgain®  (HomeAgain.com), where you can select “equine” as the species. With the registration, you’ll receive lifetime enrollment in the database, with free, unlimited updates to your contact information.

  8. Horses may experience mild local discomfort similar to a routine intramuscular injection and may display signs of mild stiffness or soreness for a few days after chip implantation. It is best to microchip a horse when it has a day or two off from strenuous activities. Please plan accordingly.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION:

Thoroughly read directions in their entirety before microchip implantation and follow as instructed.
Failure to follow directions and precautions may result in improper delivery and performance.
This product is intended for implantation by or under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian or according to state laws.
