Using Ozone to control
BEDBUGS & FLEAS
A guide using the Ozofresh Eclipse Pro to help combat infestations of bedbugs, fleas and other pests in:
Caravans – Apartments – Care Facilities
Air BnBs – Hotels – Residents Rooms
Hostels – Temporary Accommodation
You cannot get rid of bedbugs or fleas by cleaning. You need to destroy their eggs and clear the adults!
Bedbugs & Fleas are a problem
If you look on social media it feels like we are in the middle of a bedbug
epidemic. Sadly there is some truth in this. Reported cases of bedbugs have
been rising throughout the UK.
Unfortunately, caravans, care homes, airbnbs, and other kinds of temporary
accommodation, can easily be a home to bedbugs and fleas… and no matter how
clean, no accommodation is immune.
Bedbugs are extremely hard to control and a repeating problem. Costly chemical
or heat treatments are quite effective but the next occupant could just re-
introduce your unwanted visitors. They cause complaints and much needed
accommodation is out of service for weeks while you wait for pest control to
work. Sadly, people also often unfairly equate bedbugs with unsanitary
conditions.
Why are bedbugs and fleas so hard to get rid of?
These unwanted bloodsuckers survive by hiding. A flea or bedbug can lie
dormant for months. Even a fleshly cleaned, room could already be occupied
with the little pests without you knowing.
Bedbugs and fleas are experts at hiding and even if you kill them they can be reintroduced by next visitor or their dog.
There are several ways to exterminate them but they hide themselves and their eggs which makes them difficult to treat. Heat and chemical treatments can be very harsh and they require expensive specialists… and still the bedbugs can return with the next occupant.

Does Ozone Kill Bedbugs?
Yes, but no treatment is guaranteed to be 100% effective. For any treatment to
be successful against a bedbug infestation it must destroy the eggs and the
adults. Bedbugs are very good at hiding their eggs, so thorough preparation
(see the 11 steps over leaf) is very important.
Is Ozone safe?
Yes. In fact it occurs naturally, for example it if formed after a storm. As
with almost all gasses though, it is not good to breath in too much of it.
When you treat an area with the 16g Eclipse Pro nobody should have access to
the room until it is finished working. Once it has done, the ozone will be at
safe levels again.
Do I still need Chemical Pest Control?
Ozone is highly effective, but we suggest you call in a pest control
specialist if you have a very heavy or unusual infestation. An Eclipse Pro 16
will tackle bedbugs immediatly. That reduces costly repeat call outs and your
accommodation could be back in service within 72 hours rather than weeks.

Using your Eclipse Pro for Bedbugs and Fleas
-
Prepare the Area – Move the furniture so the Ozone can get behind and under furniture easily. Stand mattresses up and open cupboards. Remove and launder bedding and towels.
-
Skirting Board Preparation – Bedbugs will head to the skirting board to hide. Use some pest Control Diatomaceous Earth (available on Amazon for a small price) and sprinkle around the edge of the room to cut off their escape route.
-
Close Doors, Windows & Vents – In some cases you may need to cover the smoke alarms.
-
One Room at a Time – For maximum effect, treat one area at a time and close the doors
-
Place the Eclipse Pro 16g -Put the machine centrally on the floor. Now is a good time to check that the curtains are all closed and all furniture that can be moved away from walls, has been moved.
-
Ozone program times.
-
A 60 minute programme is usually enoug for an average room. If the floor area is more than this, use the 90 minute program.
Power up the Eclipse Pro 16g – Switch on at the base of the unit and select the program time. -
SAFETY TIP – NOW LEAVE THE AREA!
As soon as you hear the machine start working, you must leave. Make sure the exit is closed and locked behind you so no one can enter the area during the treatment time. Put a warning sign on the door. -
Further treatments – For an average infestation, we suggest three treatments in the same day with a two hour gap. Leave unoccupied for up to 72 hours.
-
Once the time is up – The Eclipse Pro 16g will have automatically cleared almost all of the ozone, so any residual ozone scent is perfectly safe. Open the windows or doors to air the room.
