Pre-Installation
- If you are going to be turning off the water to the house and you have an electric water heater, shut off the power to the water heater before beginning installation in case the water heater is accidentally drained.
- Pick a suitable location for your filter system on a level spot where it won’t be exposed to freezing temperatures. A minimum of 20 PSI is required, and the maximum pressure is 90 PSI.
- Get all of your plumbing parts together before beginning installation, and make sure you have received all of your packages before beginning or scheduling an installation. After installation, the Water Softener must be allowed to run through a complete regeneration (backwash and rinse cycle) (90 minutes).
- After installing and running the system, your water may be discolored, particularly if you have older or corroded piping. This typically clears up over a day or two.
Best Practices for Piping & Drain Installation
- Make sure to connect the Inlet from your water source and outlet, following arrows on the control valve.
- Make sure there is a working gate or ball valve before the system and also one after as well as a bypass valve.
- A hose bib (which is a faucet to which you can attach a garden hose) is strongly recommended after the Water Softener and before the second ball valve. This allows you to rinse your new Water Softener on start-up and gives you a place to test the water.
- If you will be using copper piping, do not sweat the copper pipe directly on to the 7500-REV4 control valve.
- To connect drain line to drain, use an air-gap connection, so that if your sewer or septic tank backs up, it cannot cross connect with the drain tubing.

Step 4: Install Piping and Startup Softener
The softener is equipped with a bypass valve. Pull the bypass valve handle out to put on the bypass.
Connect incoming pipes to the inlet and outlet and outgoing pipes to the house. Turn the water on and flush the pipes to make sure no piping debris or sediment is present from the piping connections.
Close gate or ball valve after softener (the one you installed).
Open up hose bib you installed after softener, before closed gate or ball valve.
Turn on garden hose (slowly at first) and run water to drain until water is clear (it will be yellow or brown at first).
NOTE: After the water is clear, you should see no resin beads in the water. Use a white 5 gallon bucket to make sure no resin is coming out during this step.
Add 2 gallons of water to the brine tank.
Add at least 50 lbs of water softener salt (coarse or pellets, either is fine) to brine tank.
Press Manual Regen button to initiate a regeneration. Wait until regeneration is completed (about 90 minutes) and open up ball valve to house. Enjoy soft water, you are done!!
Step 5: Mixing Valve Adjustment (Optional)
Your softener is equipped with a mixing valve. If you think the hardness of your water is too low, you can adjust the hardness by rotating the mixing valve.
To make your water a little less soft (more hard) adjust the mixing valve counter-clockwise.
Using your water hardness test kit, measure the hardness of the water coming out of the hose bib after the softener.
Many folks find that adjusting the water hardness to 3 to 5 grains per gallon is satisfactory and can save on salt.
